Product update. I had mine for 47 days before it quit working. Fantastic product. It is for the features it has. The best multipad out there. I exchanged mine for the Yamaha multi 12. And am very happy. The Alesis reliability issues kept me from getting another one. I will wait a few years for them to work out the bugs before I consider another one. Hope yours is still working

Ben Pursehouse The sound cut in and out on my headphones and then it just cut out permanently. I tried connecting to the 1/4 output to a monitor and it also wouldn’t work. So like I said earlier in my comments months ago I went with the Yamaha dtx multi 12. The Alesis is the best out there for what it does but for reliability which Alesis has always had issues and I experienced it which confirms all the complaints and went with older but reliable Yamaha which is still a beast.

I used to really dislike Alesis products. I don't need another multipad, and I still prefer my Nord Drum 3p, although it's in a different niche, with different features. That said, I gotta hand it to Alesis, this Multi Pad screams quality and looks like a solid alternative to the latest SPDSX. They've really improved since the Strike Pro. Good stuff.

Great review man! That's a pretty sweet piece of tech! I have the SPD-SX but have always been bummed that I can't use it for live loops - it has no way to cut loops to a perfect loop length unless you cut them in your DAW and export! This seems like a good middle ground between the spd-30 and the SX - I might have to check it out... Cheers for the info!

Thanks for the video, very clear! So i guess one could sample an entire backing track for a song and assign to one of the pads...and then just trigger the pad and jam on top? Also when looping... could I assign different length loops to different pads? So for example, if I do a 1 bare drum loop and have it on pad 1, could I then do a 4 bare loop (for example a 4 bare guitar chord sequence) and have it on pad 2? Thanks again! :)

I dont want to play percussion on my keyboard even though it will give similar sounds. I have a good keyboard (Yamaha PSR SX 900). Can I plug this straight into an amp and start using or do I need a laptop? Finally does this have African drums on it such as the talking drum which is a specialist sounding hand played drum from Nigeria? Thanks.

Thanks for the informative video. A couple questions about the looper (which is not covered as much by reviews): - Can you have the click exclusively on headphones so it won't be heard on audio outs? - Can you save a loop in a file and assign it to a pad so that you can switch between loops, all this while doing a live performance?

I’ve been interested in this piece of gear for quite some time now. I was just about to order an Alesis Strike MultiPad Percussion Pad but I need a very important question answered first. I know the Alesis Strike MultiPad Percussion Pad is capable of so much more, but I plan to use it only as a drum kit. I’m now in a situation where there is a physcial space and volume limitation. There’s not enough space for an electronic drum kit. It would be great to just walk in with this pad, a stand, and a foot and hi hat controller. QUESTION: When the Alesis Strike MultiPad Percussion Pad is used as/like a drum kit, is the hi hat able to be played/controlled closed, half open and sloshy? Or is it just closed or fully open? Thank you!

Question for you?? Have you had any issues with the Alesis Strike Pad after filling up the hard drive with your own samples? I have spent hours loading samples 10 at a time, then hours programming kits, only to find out that once its a bit over 20 gig on the hard drive I lost access to any internal sound factory or user. Can't access the library! So if I try and change a sample it will disappear and I will have no sound on that pad, very frustrating. Have you ever heard of this?? One guy at Alesis recreated the same issue but now no one in the company will talk to me and blame my samples. Everyone of those files plays 100% in Logic, Live & Pro Tools. Oh by the way Alesis was nice to start and have replaced the strike pad several times but won't admit fault with there hardware or software. I have recreated the exact same issue with all software versions 1.1, 1.2 & 1.3??? I would only recommend the Alesis Strike MultiPad to drummers who don't want to add that many samples to the device, they rate it 30 gig + the operating system LOL Once its about 20-22 gig on drive adding a sample is like rolling the dice, it may not function the same after loading samples. Other than that and the top bumper being a harder hit required than the regular pads it has promise if the fix their admitted hard drive access issue!!

Let's suppose I want to load up the Alesis Strike with my own snare sample and I want it to have it's own velocity range depending on how hard I hit a pad with said sample on it. Would I need to upload 127 samples for each velocity or can I just upload one sample at a "normal" volume and the Multipad will do the rest for me? Does the Pad Work with the strike editor software? I tried it but had issues with the sensitivity even after adjusting manually. The pad edges and top rim pads would often not trigger at all. I expected the rim pads to trigger when hitting the top rubber heavy edge but it required very hard hitting to trigger. I had to be very conscious of hitting the center. Maybe the unit was faulty. 🤷‍♂️ But the sensitivity was a deal breaker.

I see you have two cables coming out of the main ports in the back of the Strike Pad, where do they go?

They connect to the xlr inputs of my audio interface just like a microphone would. One is for the left channel, the other for the right. In Logic, I have them combined into one stereo track. Hope that helps!

can the loops be automatically quantised while performing?? and can you move to a new set of pads during a loop? like start with a set of pads acting like a bass guitar, loop it, then move to a set of pads that are drums...?

Hello. Nice review, thank! I would like to answer a question. Is it possible to stop a loop live? I mean, I play hh patern for instance, loop it, and want to change. Can I stop only the HH loop easily ? Or do I have to stop all the loops that are running ?

If you wanted to start/stop individual elements within a loop you'd need to separate them out onto different pads. The looper function just records what you play, then loops it over and over but you can't go back and take an element away from it once it's set. At least from how I understand it at the moment.

There is a "panic" button on the SMP you can press if you want to stop everything at once. You can also assign that to a specific pad as well within a kit. Just in case:)

I certainly don't understand why Alesis didn't opt to preroll when in record mode and start record automatically on incoming. After all it's 2019. not 1989.
