I know you said you cant change the typo of your sample loop but can you can change the tempo of the entire kit which then will change the tempo of that pad and loop on it. I notice the kits have bpms on the screen
@spasevrp2 жыл бұрын
Do you think the reason that only spd sx has the tempo control of a sample/loop feature and not the other multi-pads like the alesis strike, yamaha dtx multi do not is because of a patent rights issue of this feature? It's a shame none of the other sample pads have this.

Hey gays! Great video, as always! I sold my spd - sx and bought this Alesis Strike Multi Pad. It si a great equipment. Feels very sturdy for sure. The sounds library installed is great too. Very high quality samples. I use it for some commercial audio productions, and sometimes it is good to have such great instruments at hand. The new firmware update improved lots of features. So far i am really happy with it! Hope to have contributed with the conversation. Cheers from Brazil!

Always nice videos, thanks for this one! After carefully comparing the Roland SPD-SX and this Alesis offering, I am going with the Alesis. Last month they released updated firmware which adds Setlist (Chaining) feature, improved navigation to find and select kits, HH layering on single pad, and some other things. It's now a great contender against Roland.

I received this as a present for my birthday from my girlfriend. I am extremely impressed with Alesis multi pad. The 1.1 frimware update fixed many of the small issues I had with the hihat functions and the onboard sample editing. Overall I think it was a better buy than the Roland spdsx. My only complaint is the loading time between kits. It's about 4 seconds. I still may buy a Roland down the line, but this is definitely worth the 💰. She got it brand new for 640$ including shipping from guitar center. Father's day sale. It also came with Abelton live 10 and I have been using it as midi controller for Abelton. I'm brand new to the soft ware but have been learning from Mr.bill tutorial. I have been having heaps of fun and made some nice sounding tracks.

Thanks for making this review! I just started using this pad at our little church band. I was having a difficult time getting a snare sound that didn't rock the house. So I am now mixing my acoustic cymbals, a cajone as a kick drum and this for snare and toms. It also works well as a tambourine. If Alexis is listening, they could fix that premature kit load problem by simply letting us commit to a kit by hitting the enter button. Not just load it because we're scrolling through a list. That's the only downside I see. Another thing I like about this is you can play it with sticks, rods, or just your hands. I went ahead and bought the SBX case for it for $180. Expensive case, but worth it I think.

I’ve had this for about two weeks now. This thing is amazing right out of the box. Cons: My main negative issues with it is the hi hat being a pain which Justin mentions and another thing is...it’s 700 bucks these companies need to throw us a bone and include the mounting bracket. Sure it’s only 15 bucks if you go with the alesis brand or 70 if you want the alesis clamp on mount that also comes with the mounting bracket. I myself went with no mount and got the Gibraltar GEMS stand that sells most places for $109. The included screws for the mounting bracket just kind of seem like a smack in the face. Still...I love my alesis gear. I’m also having some issues with foot pedals being too touchy and repeating the sound on the down and the up. I am a noob when it comes to e drumming by about six months and I will admit some things I’m clueless on and with the foot pedal that I’ve used is a $14 dohner sustain pedal. That may be the issue and I haven’t gotten around to test out my alesis crimson 2 hi hat pedal on it to see if that eliminates the problem. Pros: Super easy to put your samples on Tons of features Feels tough! Led lights are so helpful Huge pro: Works amazing with superior drummer. Yes you lose a lot of features by using this with superior drummer but if you are interested in using this with an electronic drum kit to expand your cymbals, a gong bass or whatever you want from superior drummer this makes it so easy to dial in the sounds of superior drummer by your choice of midi note or just a number. Example: I want to put a China from superior drummer on pad 1 hit the pad, look at the number or midi key on superior drummer and turn the knob to the matching midi key or number. Numbers are super easy. China = 39 on superior drummer - turn knob to 39. Done! I plan on using this both ways by itself and with superior drummer and if anyone has any ideas on how to be able to make that change happen live easily id be glad to listen. Thanks again Justin!
@TheDigitalMD5 жыл бұрын
Yes this does MIDI but not very well. The hi hat doesn't send proper MIDI notes so that won't work and the note assignments are done at the pad level so if you change kits, the notes don't change even though you may have a completely different sound configuration on different kits. Very poor implementation.

I have had this since December 2018. I trade in my RolandSX. One of the biggest differences is on the Roland I could make a setlist and go from song to song with ease. NOT so with the Alesis. I have asked and there is no good answer to this. Also, I have contacted the company which has put out an update several months ago for help because the update would not load. I have yet to hear from them. I have added a Roland foot pedal for a bass drum and this is a great addition to the kits.
@egodeathbliss3 жыл бұрын
Had mine for about a week and am already disappointed by a few important things (to me) 1. No quantize/snap function for loop recording either during recording or playback 2. When you start recording a loop, you have to wait for a 1 bar count-in. I much prefer the Roland SPD-s process which arms record and gives a click, but doesn’t start recording until you actually strike a pad. 3. Would love to have a “live record” loop function (similar to Wavedrum Mini or the latest Roland Handsonic) where you are able simply and quickly record a phrase without having to set up tempo or bar length etc.. Great for capturing “on the fly” loops in real time. 4. Cannot match sampled loops to clock/tempo sync (like in Ableton). Loops only play back at tempo recorded 5. No ability to have sampled loop phrases start playback on the nearest beat/bar etc… If you don’t hit the pad exactly in time you loops will be out of sync. 6. No way to sync FX such as delay to clock/tempo 7. No way to mute individual loops Why can’t someone just come out with a drum pad hardware version of Ableton Live????

Hi Justin, do you have an idea, why my roland fd8 only gives one (1!) lonely "chick" sound when plugging the cable in, afterwards the pedal is plain dead, although I configured the sounds ("pedal"-sound to HH input, open/close to any pad) as mentioned in the alesis video? kinda weird that in 2022 a simple pedal won't work with any device...

Hi, I bought a used one recently because i wanted a sample pad that has a hi hat function. I followed your HH example and it works (four open HH, 2 closed HH sounds, and a chic sound) but i noticed that i can only chic from fully open to fully closed. I can never chic from any semi-open to closed. I wonder if you’ve had a similar issue and if there’s a fix for that like lowering the minimum open value for triggering a chic sound. There’s a parameter that defines what value is open or closed, but that doesn’t seem to work. Please advise, thanks

Great review! Question about the inputs/outputs. Just looking at how you hooked up your phone to it there. Does the left channel for the inputs/outputs act like a mono in/out like on the SPD SX? Would be handy for monitoring and in live situations where you want as few leads/use as few desk channels as possible.

Justin, I purchased the Alesis Strike Multi-Pad a few months back after being on the waiting list a few months from Sweetwater... I really like the unit... I'm hoping that it will be easier to use then the Roland TD-10 I owned about 10 yrs ago...This video answered some of my questions that I could not seem to find both either online or after calling Alesis directly in RI. Maybe you could clear a couple things up or one of your subscribers as I realize you can't respond to every question posted here... 1) So now I know you can hook up a Hi-Hat up to the Strike Multi-Pad... What is the compatibility with various Roland Hi-Hats for example? (In a previous video you clearly mentioned Roland HI-Hats are better than Alesis) If I didn't know better in this video are you using the Roland VH-11 Hi-Hat? Having said that how do I go about hooking it up? I have not purchased the Hi-Hat as of yet but do own a Roland FD-9 Hi-Hat controller which at the moment is not working with my strike Multi-Pad. I have just updated the Alesis software which has a HI-Hat update. This is just a guess but if I decided to use the Roland VH-11 Hi-Hat it requires a standard Hi-Hat stand so the FD-9 probably wont come into play in that scenario? I just purchased a Roland PD-120 to use as a snare instead of one of the onboard pads as a snare. I will be using dual Roland KT-10's Kick Pedals for the double bass portion of the hybrid set again to avoid the on board pad as a bass drum... 2) Any idea if the old Roland TMC-6 (trigger midi converter) would work with the Strike Multipad using just the one midi output on both units allowing for more trigger possibilities? 3) When purchasing roland cymbals for instance that have three zones (X2 1/4" jacks) is that an issue or it just merely takes up one more trigger output? Thanks for any input and or suggestions on what would be the best case scenario for creating a smaller hybrid set without placing triggers on acoustic drums...Ron Chicago

@jesseboarman85224 жыл бұрын
Hi Justin! Hey, at least 3 or 4 people have asked this question below: CAN THE TEMPO OF THE RECORDED LOOPS, EITHER THE FACTORY ONES, OR ONES YOU CREATE YOURSELF BE CHANGED? Either with a tap tempo option (ideally), or in any other way? I know you note in your review that one "Can't adjust the SPEED OF SAMPLES", but what about the loops? I bought one of these because I liked the looper feature, but if I always have to create the loop anew at the required tempo in a live setting, versus use an existing pre-recorded loop where I can just adjust the tempo slightly to match the other musicians (or DJ!) with a tap tempo, then this defeats the purpose of my purchase. If the answer is no, then are you aware of a software fix in the offing? I wrote to Alesis about this and got no response. Since others have posed this same question, your learned response would be much appreciated! And thanks for your GREAT channel and EXTREMELY HELPFUL videos for all things electronic drumming!!

I have had some light issues (not triggering properly) in live setup with rt30 serries and spd30 (which I don't like at all), as well as older modules like td12, and td9. Spd-sx was the only one who made me no problems at all, but it lacks trigger inputs so I don't use it anymore. Now I'm thinking of getting strike multi, or yamaha multi for my purposes. Anyway, personally I owned dm10 and it was trash in terms of sound, and in general feel.

Justin: Thanks for all the reviews, always enjoy your segments.....Question for you?? Have you had any issues with the Alesis Strike Pad after filling up the hard drive with your own samples? I have spent hours loading samples 10 at a time, then hours programming kits, only to find out that once its a bit over 20 gig on the hard drive I lost access to any internal sound factory or user. Can't access the library! So if I try and change a sample it will disappear and I will have no sound on that pad, very frustrating. Have you ever heard of this?? One guy at Alesis recreated the same issue but now no one in the company will talk to me and blame my samples. Everyone of those files plays 100% in Logic, Live & Pro Tools. Oh by the way Alesis was nice to start and have replaced the strike pad several times but won't admit fault with there hardware or software. I have recreated the exact same issue with all software versions 1.1, 1.2 & 1.3??? I would only recommend the Alesis Strike MultiPad to drummers who don't want to add too many samples to the device, they rate it 30 gig + the operating system LOL. Once its about 20-22 gig on drive adding a sample is like rolling the dice, it may not function properly anymore. Other than that and the top bumper being a hard hit required that the regular pads it has promise if the fix the hard drive access issue....

I see that you have the same DigiTech triple foot switch that I have, how did you get that to work, and which input/s do you have it plugged into, in the back? And what are you using it for?

Alesis Strike Multipad - Power Receptacle - Question Hello all. Seeing as many of you probably own the Alesis Strike Multipad I thought I would post a Question here. I have a new Alesis Strike Multipad. When I unplug the power adapter from the module, it slides smoothly for two millimetres then it meets resistance so I have to pull harder, it then seems to pass a resistance point and then it comes out smoothly again. Do all of you have that same experience or do your power adapters unplug smoothly from start to finish like most electrical adapters? I’m asking because if this is a defect, I will exchange it for a new one so I don’t have problems down the road. Alternatively, it may be how they are built to prevent accidental disconnections? I would go to the local music stores and test it but they don’t have any in stock. If you own one, can you let me know if your experience with the adapter is/was smooth all the way or if you have experienced the resistance I am talking about. Please let me know by posting below? Thanks.
