My counter-point to the 2 gentlemen's criticism of the cover, would be that there were 52 other covers including lots of well established artists, on the Blacklist album and if they listen to all of them like I did, I suspect they will quickly conclude that this is the best covers on the album by far. Also it should be noted that Metallica when inviting the artists, clearly told them that they did not want straight covers and to go for it to create something original, which most artists ignored because either they did not have the guts to deconstruct a classic song like this one or were too lazy, but The Warning not even being an established band yet, took enormous risks doing what they did to the song and also to be noted, unlike other artists that knew well in advance, they were notified barely over a week before the deadline and had to re-arrange, record, edit and master the song, plus record the video in a very short amount of time before the release of the album.

From what i gather Alessia reached out to The Warning to collaborate on her offer. Alessia is a pop singer. I think they did a beautiful version of giving Alessia her space then combining her haunting vocals later on when The Warning took over and rocked it out.

TW and Alessia didn’t meet in person due to COVID until long after this video was recorded, thus Alessia’s part being projected. I was fortunate to be at the Troubadour in LA for the only time they’ve performed this live together. Make no mistake, this entire arrangement was done by the sisters with Alessia performing what they had wrote for her. TW perform ES live at every concert they do with Dany showcasing the white Gibson Explorer gifted to her by Lzzy Hale.

Actually TW and Alessia met when TW was in LA to remix their Error Album in Dolby Atmos. At the time it was early 2021 and fans didn’t know they would be working on a new version of Enter Sandman.

The instructions they received from Metallica were to take a song from the Black album, turn it upside down and inside out and make it their own. Of the some 50 artists on the Blacklist album, they were one of the very few to actually create a new song, in their style, while still paying homage to the original.
@bradshagrin8352 Жыл бұрын
The other rule from Metallica was that they weren't going to make money off of this album. Band proceeds when to the charity of their choice. The Warning chose Save The Children. Metallica's cut went to All Within My Hands.

The ohhhs are Alessia not The Warning. Live the ohhhs are done in the form of a backtrack whilst the sisters rock out.

According to Pau, she rewrote the original song to pop style to accomodate for Alessia, then they rearranged everything back into a rock song, recorded, produced, and mastered everything IN ONE WEEK with a sound engineer flying down to Mexico and Alessia sending vocals from Canada over internet. Landing track #1 and being considered the best cover of the entire album is a testament to the impresive talent of The Warning.
@MrSudeepdas Жыл бұрын
This is Clapton paying his respects to Dylan with Knocking on Heaven's Door in his Backless album. Out of the 50 odd artists invited for the Black List 2021 quite a few covered Enter Sandman. Despite Lars telling them to strip it, do it back & forth or whatever that is required in order not to sound like the original only The Warning were able to think out of the box to this extent. Most of them, including some big names, got stuck in that iconic riff & general structure of the song. It takes creativity, conviction & courage to do this reimagination where the girls paid homage to Metallica by incorporating the famous riff in the end. Kind of they picked up the song from where Metallica left it & reversed back. It takes profound artistic intelligence to include a 3 part harmony with "Hush now baby" where the power gets ramped up with each iteration & the song shifts from Alessia's pop towards the girls' hard rock essence. One of those very few examples of perfect integration of pop & rock. Of course, there are others who see it differently as their perception of music vary and don't dig The Warning. Metallica appreciated this effort a lot & recommended it for a video game & other usage, if I am not mistaken. The Warning used to compose typical rock songs with guitar solos when they started. We have to remember that they are a decade old band. Now they give equal importance to each instrument & will do solos on guitars & drums if only the song demands it. Ten days. Alessia was originally approached by Metallica to participate in this project but had no idea what she would want to do. Her management team reached out to The Warning to see about doing a collab on it and of course TW jumped at the opportunity. Keep in mind that this was early 2021 during the middle of the pandemic with Alessia in Canada and TW in Mexico. TW got the invite 10 days before the final song was due to be submitted to Metallica for the Blacklist album. The instructions from Metallica were to turn the song upside down, inside out, rearrange it, make it different, but stay true to the lyrics. While their producer worked on getting down to Mexico to work on the recording, TW got busy and stripped the song down to it's very basics and then built it back up. First they re-wrote it as a pop song for Alessia's style, and then they added in that TW sound and ended up with the original riff in half time as a tribute to Metallica. With the producer in town, they recorded Alessia's parts basically over Skype, recorded TW's parts in Monterrey, and got it all done and sent to Metallica in 10 freaking days. This is now one of their favorite songs to play live and as some of you suggested, they did refine the whole song a bit more for their shows so that it all sounds like a TW song and kept Alessia's harmonies on a backing track for the concerts. I would suggest checking out their live video of this from Teatro Metropolitan CDMX 2022 to see how the changed it for a live show.

Agree with Dave - it's _supposed_ to sound like The Warning. It's not a note-for-note cover on purpose, because Metallica told them to play it backwards or upside down or whatever. Maybe Andy needs a little better prepping next time.

Dave was correct in everything he said. I think to appreciate this properly for the fantastic effort this is, a little context is important to the listener doesn't go into it with wrong expectations. Contrary to what Andy said, this is SUPPOSED to sound like The Warning; also it's not a mashup, it's a clever evolution of the song, starting with r&b, moving into pop, moving into rock and finally ending up with metal. Alessia Cara is a Grammy award winning pop/r&b singer. Metallica themselves loved this version, which was totally written by The Warning. The idea of the Blacklist album was to have different artists collaborate. This is an outstanding effort. I suggest that Andy and Kirk would probably enjoy The Warning's live Metallica cover of Atlas Rise, which is a gem. They might also enjoy the live Miley Cyrus version singing with Metallica on the Hoard Stern radio show, which was her contribution to the album.

It seems like they didn’t like the song , I wonder why they ( THE WARNING) are touring across Europe and this 3 are seating on their a$$3s craving for likes ( 👍🏼 ) 🤷🏻♂️ ?
@anthonyfisher1670 Жыл бұрын
It ended up being a mash up between a pop singer and a rock band purely by chance , as the record company asked Alessia first and in turn asked the Warning , being from the same record label and that is what we got , and i think it worked very well , which was not easy to pull off because of the different genres on display .Agreed with the gothic feel to the song and performed from a female's perspective perhaps !
@GregPourciau Жыл бұрын
Not the same record label to merchandise or sell things(both being from another country) in US you have to go thru a US based management company which both are contracted to so that's how the connection was made not sure if Alessia knew what to do but the Warning sure did.

Dany is actually quite a good guitarist. When they were touring with Halestorm Lzzy Hale said "I'd hear her playing and I'm like shit I need to practice." Their songs aren't always guitar featured which hides it a little. I enjoy her guitar in XXIst century blood.

@behindthemoviesmor9126 Sadly, the majority of metal fans are closed-minded. They don't even like rock music if it's not heavy. They forgot or didn't know what Rock n roll was all about. It's about rebellion. It's about freedom from the "rules" of music. It used to be, music should be this, and music should be that. Now, rock/metal should be this, and it should be that. Just like the closed-minded gatekeepers of music in the 1940s pre-rock n roll.
