I am so excited for this video Alessia, as you well know I HATE playing against 1d4 but because i have so many other problems in my chess that need attention we have never really gotten to work on the 1d4 thing. I am so grateful for all you do to help all of us lowly chess amateurs out here needing this knowledge. Also very well presented and great all around video. 😀

I recently finally got my goal of 1000 Rapid rating. Now my favorite opening choices are a course for Black 1... e6 vs everything, where 2.. d5 is often the second move; and 1. d4 as White with a nice flexible start where I often play c4 and or e3. I found this resulted in much less annoying early threats for me to calculate against. So the opening tends to be a much more comfortable solid positional style for me. Though I do plan to mix things up before too long, with some stretch into more tactical waters again.

Yeah, that's what I do. Usually as Black, my Queen's Gambit games turn into either the Orthodox Defense or Nimzo Indian or Queen's Indian. Also, I like the Benko Gambit too. If I have an opponent that plays Catalan style to prevent the Nimzo, then I go for the Queen's Indian.

I generally enjoy your videos but I think games against stronger opponents (even if fewer games) would be more helpful and instructive. Personally I'm keen for ideas against good play, rather than questionable play and downright errors that is shown with the lower rated players who "move without thinking" as you say in one of the later games.

I think playing with sound chess principles is more important for a chess player seeking to improve than always wanting to know the winning move.

Standard chess. All you need to know is 2 openings with each color. Black here plays the terrasch. Other great opening is sicillian the french variation. Very solid. With white play q. gambit and Danish. The last one is great fun. Lot of opponents fall for traps.

White's objective is to form the en potence at once and afterward to establish the grand left oblique, while the minor crochet covers the right wing against the adverse major front echelon. The minor left oblique refused is inferior to all strategic fronts directed either by the right or by the left or by the right refused..

Alessia, if you want to teach an opening, please do, but stop this playing with super weak players that you can win by playing anything. I love your personallity. beating these players teaches nothing, but good for the ego.

2:07 would never think to play this situation like that. Nice. That's the perfect example of the typical opponent at this Elo, how overaggressive and relentlessly they focus on a single target or square to the point of stupidity, by adding more and more pieces until they can't anymore. Though it can really catch you off guard sometimes if you're too relaxed or forget this is how they ALWAYS play. Hardly anyone plays defensively, or a positional game at the 1000 level. They are all Kasparov wannabes! If they ever run out of attacking opportunities, their brain just malfunctions and they time out. P.S. I'm making in-roads at rapid 1107 and on the rise, using a new strategy that is based on counting the squares and free space to make the optimal move rather than focusing on pieces. Beat a couple of legit 1400 players at Chess960 using this theory. But then lost a few games to 700-800, so need to hone it more. But it's given me confidence I can rise above 1200. Using this principle with white from the opening, it develops into the "Accelerated London" which I find interesting, because I've heard the London is annoying to play against, due to not having any real weaknesses.

@Alessia Santeramo - Alessia, il congiuntivo in inglese non funziona così. Si dice "If that Bishop _were_ here, then I would capture it", non "If that Bishop _would be_ here, then I would capture it". Tantissime persone online fanno questo errore. (Per contro, la parola "fianchetto" pronunciata giusta è musica per le mie orecchie! :D )
