Yay new sojourn lore! I was just binging the old love videos the other day I love how detailed the model is and how it treads the line between being both distinctly Merician in construction and greebling while also extremely union (unionian?) in overall layout and design, matching the (fantastic) lore perfectly. Exemplified here 5:09 beautifully. Hat's off to the artists! Also love the new way you guys have rendered the radiators. The color gradient on them looks great, and them being a light source just adds that last little detail.

How did these ships get delivered to the Union when there is no gate connection between the merician Freehold and the Union? Even with the international treaty I can't really believe that the Assembly would allow enemy ships to be delivered right through the Axius Frontline only to potentially immediately turn around and join the other side.
@youtubepleb4 ай бұрын
They didn’t have a choice. The Treaty of Mizudori made clear that the Freehold could sell to both sides and the video outright says that the Assembly couldn’t afford to alienate them.
@TheMrZ4 ай бұрын
They didn't deliver the whole ship, the video only says that they were assembled from Merician components, and the factsheet at the start lists two union shipyards in the manufacturers. The hull was probably built in the union, or delivered in small sections for assembly, and then kitted out with a mixture of Merician armour and systems and locally made weapons. The separate components would have been delivered by treasure ships or other large haulers before the outbreak of the war, but smuggling them in after is still an option as the gates were only decoupled, not shut off, and the Assembly forces in Axius were initially in disarray and in a defensive posture rather than fully blockading the gate. Plus they made use of ostensibly civilian components like the construction ship engines, so even if inspected there may have been no reason to stop them. If most of the components for the first batch were sent together, the union could have everything they need to finish them before the Centrans first see the class and figure out what's up. Then once the treaty kicks in, the Centrans have to let the Mericians keep selling and shipping to the Union or loose their own access to Merician industry.

Are there spheroidal devices on ships with crew quarters for turning towards the thrust for a more comfortable position of the crew during a change in thrust?
@Jaydee86524 ай бұрын
They look like storage tanks. Either that or they’re reactors but multiple per ship seems strange.
@mr-uw4vl4 ай бұрын
@@Jaydee8652 I mean, on ships that can change thrust in the opposite direction due to the front engines, it is necessary to have special devices that represent rooms that would turn the floor in the direction of gravity during engine operation
@DecidedlyNinja4 ай бұрын
@@mr-uw4vl That is not necessary. The far easier substitute is making sure everyone is strapped in before hard maneuvering. Additionally, there's gravity plating in this setting that can cancel out acceleration along one or more axes.

Seems a little finniky to me to go to 4 sig figs.) 130.0(?) m= 427 ft. or 426.5 ft. or 426 ft. 6 in. (weel, 3 seems a bit more reasonable.) 27.5 m= 90.2 ft. (or 90 ft., 3 in. Yes! Clarity!).

@WolfeSaber4 ай бұрын
@@SephirothRyu So, they can shoot rounds larger than the first shots? That's a waste of ammo.
@SephirothRyu4 ай бұрын
@@WolfeSaber The degree to which the barrel wears is likely relatively limited by the ammo. The rounds presumably have some mechanism to maintain contact through a very small amount of bore size change. Its also possible that the barrel itself slowly adjusts the distance between the two rails over time to compensate. This would allow for the bore to, in fact, not change. However, the forces in a railgun essentially are trying to tear the rails apart from each other as it is firing, so you might need some seriously strong parts and reliable engineering to build a non-static system like this into it. To the point where it may just be easier to use simple barrels and carry a bunch of easy-to-replace spares. This setting seems to use static barrels, which means they need to be replaced fairly frequently. Specifically, they need to be replaced when the bore gets too big for the ammo to reliably fire, or when they have fired enough in a short period of time that the rails begin losing conductivity due to being too hot, and/or warping or melting from the heat (it seems Sojourn has some materials that maintain conductivity at fairly high temperatures as I think there were references to the rails starting to melt before becoming unusable).

As someone who adores Frigates (If a setting, or combination of region, and era of naval history includes Frigates its nearly certain my favorite ship class will be a Frigate.) I like the ship a lot. And the description of the Torpedoes makes the class sound wonderful for the Battleship or heavy Carrier hunting Frigate squadrons I like to use in space strategy games. I just wish she had a mix of energy weapons and projectile weapons instead of going all in on the projectile weapons. Limiting energy weapons to point defense or not using them at all is a trend in space scifi I definitely don't like. I am curious why a barrel size isn't listed for her Railguns. It says they re medium weight but nothing else.

I swear every ship in this series has way too massive of a crew count.
@youtubepleb4 ай бұрын
Actually, many would argue that it’s too small. Sci-fi has bad habit of making massive ships with unnaturally small crew complements. For some comparison, the Ticonderoga-class, a real life naval vessel 40 meters shorter and far smaller overall than the Alessiah, has a crew of over 300.
