Alexandra truly was a complex woman, rich and powerful and ruthless with enemies, but able to swing back a few beers, go bowling, right a motorcycle and really relate to people from the other side of the tracks. It's nice to see a wealthy woman like her not typecast as a snob, and with both Beverlee and Marj, you got to see a little bit of their own persona as well.

How fortunate GL was to have both Kim and Beverlee at the same time.

They seriously pulled off magic together in this scene. I didn't know that they actually had scenes together where they discussed issues of substance but I'm so glad to have seen this because you've got two pros at work.

I want to thank you so much for uploading this clip. I've always loved Alexandra's character, and I feel like her story and personality changed once Marj took over the role - she did great in her own right but watching Beverly competently portray a shift in feelings for someone, letting her guard down and talking with someone who would be least expected of all for a friendly conversation... Whoever said she was a complex character is right. But she could portray warmth like in this scene, and in the same moment, open up with disdain and a casual boot toward the door for Reva. Then they begin to talk and they start to let their guard down and see that they actually do have things in common. I really, really miss this kind of dialogue. It was so damn well written. And I can't help but compare it to soaps now where it's just very compressed and none of the characters really ever contradict themselves or seem genuinely human. Again thank you so much for posting. This made my day.

I remember seeing this when it first aired. It was so nice to see the two of them have a nice moment after years of being enemies. I believe this was actually their last scene together before Reva left the show the following year.

Alexander means to me a person that if she's your friend she will go to hell with you and back a good Ally to have when people are trying to mess over you and if she like you she won't cheat back to back but if you ever Crossing and if you ever and she don't like you put a gun to your head pull the trigger but did you grade first didn't pull the trigger because if you don't have the power or know the people decal that might and I do mean might I have the power if any at all I'll stall them power to keep you off keep off your ass kick then you in trouble I dream I'm having friends like Alexandra because in this day and time that's what you need some people with power that's going to back your ass

This was a nice scene. Reva and Alex were known to throw daggers, but to have them sit and relate to each other. Kim and Beverlee were pros.

Beverlee Mc Kinsey holding Court , Alexandra. Spaulding as usual naturally able to go from control to subtle plaisanteries , the Ultimate Actress who never ´ tooted her own horn , going from emotion to another to vulnerability , Fantastic and that laugh , wonderful Acting from Reeva too .

I have a buddy who never missed a move McKensie made on Another World or Texas, but never knew Alexandra, just as I never knew Iris. It is a matter of divine frustration realizing each of us is bewitched by only a half spell of what was. The Meryl Streep of daytime, the Garbo of daytime. Rest in peace.

Alex using that whole wind-up about "how drab it is to be pregnant nowadays" in order to trick Reva into admitting that Josh isn't Dylan's father was one of the best things I've seen on a soap. It isn't often we get to see Reva openly realize that someone outwitted her. And note - Alex did not take the opportunity to press Reva about who Dylan's father actually was.
@intellisquid Жыл бұрын
You make an extremely good point here! Alex could be manipulative but she never really showed her hand or approach to something like finding out who Dylan's father was (wasn't) without a strategy. It's seriously a delightful surprise that the writers worked things in like this with established characters. Like you said, Riva was always quite sharp but seeing that little fairly innocent ploy on Alexander's part, and Reva's reaction to it, was seriously gratifying. I really wish soaps today had a similar sense of nuance to their writing and dialogue.
@Aquaria13 жыл бұрын
Kim actually did A-C-T all the time. Reva was about ten different women through her run on GL, and Zimmer made all of them real and believable. I've seen her in nearly everything she's done, TV and film, and she always pulled off every character to perfection.

Beverlee was born on this day in 1935. I was very young when she was on Another Word and Texas, but I'm sure I'd remember a scene or two if I saw it.

It was a pretty toned down scene anyway. When she needed to show something more, she did. The scene didn't call for her to be outregeously untamed or anything. LOL.

@@JimmieJamOfTheDay Beverlee Mckinsey was fabulous. My husband who never watched soap operas( he was at his office) He took a two week vacation in 1974. And watched Another World. He was hooked on Mckinsey. Then ten years later She was Alexandra Spaulding on Guiding Light- I would record the show for him and we would watch it, just to see her. She died on his birthday May 2. (2008).... it was like losing an old friend.
