They really are beautifully engineered machines Alex, they just look like they will work, like a fine car that appears fast even when static! I love to see the workmanship from that period, but the clincher is the sound of the machine, it is almost hypnotic, soothing, and to own one is to look after a piece of our living history. Thank you for sharing, all the best.

I have a singer that must had a trip back to the factory. The serial # indicates 1893 but it has a wrinkle finish and a motor .

Is that why a singer might have a silver badge instead of a gold one? I have a singer 66K, the decals are not as great as this one, but it has a silver badge and is in a similar wooden base? thank you!

I have a hand crank 28k from the same time with victorian decals and vibrating shuttle. I can't find anywhere a comparison between the 28k and 15k, I'd like to know if it's worth me getting the latter. Also I've heard VS is more reliable for heavy sewing which perhaps rings true to me as I have a 201k which couldn't handle a toolbelt repair that my 28k didn't even flinch at. I'd suggest a comparison between the 15, 28, 66, 201 would be a great video. Especially if you got into the mechanism as well as usage differences.

I use my 1903 Singer that's been passed down the family. I use it at least once a week and prefer it to my electric machine that I was given last year. I'd love to know what it's sewn in it's long life.

Wendy Lou i have just bought a machine that is from 1902 - can you tell me what needles you use on yours? I understand they might be different from modern ones but i’m new to vintage machines and don’t know what I am supposed to try and find.

@@NekonataVirino Hi, I have only had to change mine once. I bought the new needles in a pack from a shop that sold Singer machines. The needle is different - the eye is side on. So the thread goes through the eye from your left to right. On my modern machine the needle threads front to back. Hope that helps. Singer retailers are v helpful if you need other bits - like a zipper foot etc.
@meganmills65453 жыл бұрын
@@wendylou3612 Luckily that's just a matter of how you insert the needle. If you put the flat to the back as you insert it you thread front-to-back. The same needle can be insert with the flat to the right and be threaded left-to-right (as is usual in a Singer 27/28 and 127/128). And I think the Singer 221s and 222s have the needle insert flat to the left so they are threaded right-to-left. But it's still the same needle that will work in all those machines. The difference is how they oriented the hole in the needle bar where the needle slots into. Quite handy really. (Usually the way the thread guide is oriented right by the top of the needle is a hint - they are normally facing how you'd need them to be for whatever way the machine needs to be threaded.)

Thank you very much for your inspiring Videos. What kind of sewing machine Needles can be used with a 28k or 128k Singer ( I own both models) and where van I find those ? Best regards
@meganmills65453 жыл бұрын
Your normal Schmetz type needles - the "commonest" one, will work just fine (I think it is the 130/705). And you can use the stretch, top-stitch, denim, universal etc in size 70-80-90-100 and so on. What we consider the common standard had become the standard already way back then.

The needle used in today's half shuttle sewing machine will work fine as I have one such machine in running condition. If you demand I can give a live video of my one.

Can you spare a shuttle on of that machine as mine is almost worn out?

I have a 1890's Jones machine and according to the manual I need to purchase best sperm whale oil, cant find any on Ebay !
@meganmills65453 жыл бұрын
And when you do it will be very old and very likely spoiled and stink to high heaven. Likely to have become quite dark in colouring as well and cost an absolute fortune. More something people collect than use! They did use it well into the 20th century though and fine sperm whale oil was considered just the thing for fine machinery like sewing machines, clocks and... guns.
