Fashion critic Alexander Fury looks back on the fashion shows he considers most legendary.
Sharing his encyclopaedic fashion knowledge, Fury chronicles John Galliano’s A/W 94 ‘Japonisme’ collection held in São Schlumberger's ramshackle 17th century-style hôtel particulier in Paris, Vivienne Westwood's A/W 95 ‘Vive la Cocotte’ show and Christian Lacroix's debut haute couture collection for A/W 87.

loved watching lacroix shows on ftv and it was so sad that they closed but as u said, that lifestyle is evaporating. i hope fast fashion evaporates already. we need more eco fashion. please feature more of those

You need to factor in labor, fabric, and staging the show. Runway shows alone usually cost a minimum of $200k.

Sterling Ross no everything was sponsored for free, hair, models, shoes, diamonds, all the money he was given was for the creation of the garments. There’s plenty of documentary and books detailing out that specific collection.

I love lacroix, galliano, mcqueen, westwood... as much as the next person but this is getting kind of repetitive. If you're gonna largely focus on the 90s at least invite people that can give us variety. I need to hear about helmut, chalayan, jil, slimane...

I have thousands of disagreeing comments to make but I won't. I'll just say that Galliano's collection was dreadful. There were plenty of collections around that time, far superior to his. And Westwood's collection was the dirt poor cousin of Lacroix's.

@let us prey He did not use cheap fabric. He used silk because, in his own words: "I had no money for other fabrics". That collection was simplistic and irrelevant and it shows no cutting skill. If you knew how to cut, you would know.
