Alex Garland’s ‘Civil War’ Trailer Absolutely Terrifies

Director Alex Garland’s films have always had an edge. His latest film absolutely feels like a place society has already seen a preview of in the last couple of years.
It feels a little too familiar and with that familiarity comes the terror.
The first trailer for Civil War looks like Garland’s most grandiose and horrifying yet.
Civil War imagines a United States that has been ultimately divided into a warzone with a flag that only has 2 stars.
19 states have seceded and a western front of fighters are moving from the west to take over the capitol.
We follow Kirsten Dunst and her crew of Journalists who are watching the entire thing unfold from coast to terrifying coast.
Moments in the trailer that stand out are the chilling moment with Jesse Plemmons holding a group at gunpoint asking what “kind” of American they are ? Plemmons has always had a chilling knack for being really hard to read. That is what makes his work so compelling.
Civil War stars Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Cailee Spaeny.
Alex Garland’s latest arrives in theaters beginning April 26, 2024.

"Funny thing" - before everything started on Ukraine in 2014, there was a book written and published on Ukraine in 2012 Эпоха мертворожденных which precisely enough describes what has happened later in reality. But it got lines of division between regions of Ukraine wrong too. If such fiction about this civil war will turn out about as accurate as the future about civil war on Ukraine turned out... I am not gonna be surprised.

Why is everybody freaking out?! Movies about a civil war in America have been out and available for audiences as far back as the David Bautista movie “Bushwick” (2017). For that matter, the television series “Jericho” (2006-2008) used the civil war as a key feature in its premise. Of course, the timing couldn’t have been more opportune and it provides an interesting counterpoint to all the chaos that those boneheaded right wingers in Congress as well as their ilk campaigning for the presidency. If Jonathan Swift were alive, he’d be laughing his butt off at everybody who is having conniption fits about this A24 release. Anybody who has seen A24 releases knows their imaginative films are edgy and far less politically correct, meaning they are more inclined to push the envelope enough to make you cringe. Mind you, this movie is going to exploit all this hysteria and fold it into their advertising. Why don’t we just chill and wait and see the film and then decide whether to trash it or praise it. Hopefully, “Civil War” will give us a glimpse at what could happen and make us think a little more about if this is what we want.
