It's quite impressive to see these old videos of rare matches. From what I've learnt, 1985 was a good year for Higgins against Davis. He beat Davis in The Masters, Irish Masters and the World Cup. His wins were far and few, but boy, it was box-office material.

Unfortunately I believe he never beat Davis after 85.

1985 was the year I won my first snooker tournament in my club when I was 15 so I remember that year well and of course it was the year of the black ball final in the world championship

What snooker have done this year with the introduction of gender mixed event, will do wonders for the game. The time has come and its nice to have something with a bit variation in the game.

It's a fun little gimmick like Power Snooker and The Shoot Out, nothing more.

Why are women so much crapper than men, in a game where physical attributes don’t matter? Can someone please explain this.
@jamieaddisonmusic2 жыл бұрын
@@jonasaikin7616 probably because snooker is seen as very much a man's sport. That's changing now thankfully but most of the roots of snooker came from working mens clubs and snooker clubs where a lot of the time women were not even allowed to go into other than to find out where their husband was. All the older players started out that way so naturally men learnt how to play the game and women never had the opportunity. Full size snooker tables aren't something people have laying around at home so these mens clubs are where men learnt the game and many went on to be the first stars of the game. Now it's not a surprise or looked down on to see a woman in a snooker club I'd say the standard of female snooker players is going to go up far greater in the next decade. Players like Reanne Evans will inspire girls to play the game and not feel out of place going up against the men of the sport

@@jonasaikin7616 Men have better depth perception, due to hundreds of thousands of years of hunting, throwing and catching. Women see colours more vividly due to hundreds of thousands of years picking berries and gathering. That's why when a woman walks into a room she will comment on flowers while a bloke will barely notice them. Ask the guy to toss a penny in the flower's vase and he'll probably do it though. In snooker, men bring this advantage to the table from the get go.

@@jonasaikin7616 There is just one sport I know of where the girls start with an advantage over the boys. Long distance swimming. They have a better body fat ratio that helps buoyancy, and so can, on average, swim further, for longer. This may have an evolutionary explanation, similar to why women keep their hair. Raising children in water. The kids would hang on to the hair so it became evolutionarily advantageous to select for hair that didn't fall out too easily.
