@bartek60822 жыл бұрын
Can you link it?
@ouwle66182 жыл бұрын
The takeaway from the test is not that Alex doesn't feel fear like normal humans, he does. He is still afraid of other things then climbing, heights and to some extent death. The point is that he proves that you can train away substantial fears with training and years of experience. It's like overcoming a major phobia, and the fear of death is something 99% of humans live with. His movie "Free Solo" shows you that you can overcome any fear, and that you should, if your goal is that valuable to you. Don't let fear stop you in pursuit of you dreams, since you can even overcome the fear of death. However it is important to note that it doesn't have to be deadly. It can be more "simple" fears that stop anyone from achieving anything in life.
@rl_mel2 жыл бұрын
@@ouwle6618 what people don’t realize is that fear is a good thing. there’s a reason we have fear and without it our species probably wouldn’t have lived this long. in this case the fear he trained away is just a really dumb way to risk your life imo. i don’t see how climbing could be worth dying for. no hate towards climbers but in my mind there is no reason as to why the risk is worth it at all.

All of the armchair psychologists in the chat need to chill about the amygdala fear-producing chemical stuff.The only thing the scientists in the movie said was that his brain was not activating a fear-response to photos. That's probably because the dude has been in life or death situations daily and has trained himself, over decades, not to panic. He also does feel fear and does panic in the same film. He got extremely spooked on the first attempt of the wall and was visibly shaken from that after he got back to his base camp.

I think something to mention is that although Alex did try and convince Magnus to go and climb free solo with him, Magnus had every opportunity to back out before they went up. At the end of the day, it was Magnus's decision to do something like this. Another point is that this wall was a 5.9 climb which is far far far below Magnus's skill level, which is why Alex felt comfortable enough to bring Magnus along with him to climb it. For Magnus a 5.9 is like climbing a really long ladder without any safety gear, still dangerous, but not nearly as dangerous as people are making it out to be.

zero fear and happy to die? People watch the documentary but fail to realize that Alex spent more than a decade preparing to free solo freerider he made many other free solos working up to that length and grade, also doing the route so many times he memorized every move to the point where it was like a walk in the park for him 'hard climbs come years before the crux'

One thing I’m curious about is how eating an energy bar positively impacts you at a moment like this, baseball player have long chewed sunflower seeds, gun, tobacco but it’s biggest thing is that it actually relaxes anxious nerve so in a situation where you probably need the energy burst and are that tense I genuinely curios of the benefit it has.
