This is only the start of the programme. About 45 minutes of the 2 hours were dedicated to the topic and included full contributions from a humanist and the Secular Society. It was a complete breath of fresh air on the subject, that the likes of the BBC would never broadcast. Amazing that at least three presenters are happy to profess their faith, and a good sign of diversity in the organisation. The Twitter poll - a respectable 7000 or so votes was about 60% yes, we still are. @mark detzler, There is not one verse in the Bible where Jesus claims to be God. There are of course a number of verses where he claims to be the 'son of God.' After his resurrection he said to a woman, , “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” John 20 :17. New International Version He describes himself as having a God. The person who is also his father. Even an atheist if they just read the gospel accounts could work out the writers are saying Jesus is God's son. Not God Almighty.

Obviously when we are talking about the nature of the Judeo Christian God we are delving into an area which, by it's very nature, is way behind human imagining. You might find it interesting to read the prophecy in Daniel 7:9-14 and see what he has to say about the person entitled 'The Son of Man'. This is a passage that all good Jews would know off by heart and yet Jesus uses the title to describe himself again and again. I would be very interested in chatting more on this subject but probably not in this point/counterpoint method of commenting on videos. For now I trust you have a good week wherever you may find yourself.

Atheism is dead. The truth is your diety is what ever occupies the top of your value hierarchy, which as something must do so means that God as an ideal is unquestionably real. Moreover, this is part of the Christian notion of God. My family is not very religious and although raised culturally Christian via school, I largely rejected it because of attitudes on things like sexuality. However I've always "believed in belief": most societies developed a religion as a broad moral philosophy and, as far as religions go, Christianity is a pretty decent one to have. I attended secular alternatives like humanist groups which had some lovely people, but just seemed to be lacking something. Without a national religious philosophy (even just as a soft cultural backdrop) society seems to drift to alternative frameworks such as hard politics and/or an endless focus on identity. I've heard the term "Christian atheists" which describes how I feel these days.

@@geraldbrown2840 Yes children shouldn't be exposed and that's a fair point. What I didn't like about the monologue was her certainty that porn ruins the lives of the women involved. Some, but many make a good living around the world, and are comfortable doing it. It's about having control of the situation and the money, not being abused or exploited. Like any other job. But yeah, you're right about the effects on kids, though that's not the fault of sex workers. Governments and internet companies need to deal with that. And parents.

I left the Anglican church because it has become political. I no longer go to services, I pray quietly in church by myself, often in an empty church, to avoid the church hierarchy. I no longer volunteer through churches preferring to join non-political charities. You brought this on yourself, Churches.

The political climate in the Church of England currently is the Liberal Left: liberal in theology and left in politics! The Evangelical Church has stayed faithful to foundational beliefs of Christianity and one can attend it with good conscience. To use the adjective 'daft' which means stupid for a faithful church is very daft indeed!
