He had the highest war on the 1998,1999,2009 team as well as the ws mvp in 2000. In 2001 he had the highest war amongst his teams positions players. When they were in the world series he was usually their best player. Thats why he got all the praise. You don't need to be hitting home runs to be great.
@seanhudson73285 жыл бұрын
Jeter was great not because of numbers (even though he was one of the best hitters of all time), but because he was clutch in the postseason.
@tombstone11115 жыл бұрын
Just out of curiosity, how many MVP's did Derek "The Great" win in his career? I'm a lifelong Yankees fan and even I admit Jeter is the most overrated player in professional sports history and I can't even think of a close second.
@has32195 жыл бұрын
@@tombstone1111 How are you overrated with a 72.7 Career WAR???? He has the 12th highest Offensive output in terms of offensive WAR in mlb modern HISTORY with 96.3, which is colossal. Was he a great defender? No but even that is overstated in terms of how bad he was. He's not overrated at all maybe over exposed but when you play in the biggest market, win 5 world series in which you were the best position player you get a lot of praise.

It's like how the KD Curry relationship works Jeter was good to the franchise helped win multiple titles but A Rod was the better player despite that, Curry is the pinnacle of the Warriors franchise he's the face he won a title with the team built w him but then KD joined, KD is the better player all around but Curry is worth more to the franchise 🤔
@timothygalvin30215 жыл бұрын
Its a little different though because the Warriors have won two championships with KD. ARod famously struggled in almost every postseason (09 being the exception) and while he had multiple mvp years, the team underperformed with him from a "winning championships" perspective.

Curry is better than KD tho. Before KD joined, curry outplayed him in almost every matchup. There’s a reason why he has 2 MVPs and has had more success than him.

@JoeCracco5 жыл бұрын
As a NYer and a lifelong Yankees Fan let me save you some time here. A-Rod came to the Yankees as the far superior defensive shortstop, it’s not even close how much more range he had than Jeter, yet he played 3B ONLY because it was “Jeter’s Team.” If Jeter really wanted the best for the team he would have said let Alex play Short, and I’ll play 2nd or 3rd. We won’t even get into the offensive numbers, Jeter was awesome offensively but A-Rod’s numbers were already legendary. Jeter never embraced A-Rod as a Yankee. I don’t think he ever wanted A-Rod there and honestly I think it was all for selfish reasons.

I remember when Jeter and A rod just started out and the media showing their friendship. I thought it was cool, 2 young talented players supporting each other and playing baseball. But the problem began when the media started to compare those two. It's the media's fault for instigating their feud. Derek tried hard to not make it worse, but A Rod couldn't be as classy as Jeter, and seemed to add fuel to the fire. Oh, well they're both great ball players and enjoying their retirement, good for them.

Gotta say, I like Arod more because of the portrayal of him by fans and media. My maon criticism of him is his discomfort with being a villain in sports. Be the Corporate Champ or heel Stone Cold. But he wanted to be liked, the media sensed it and exploited and attacked it. But, now? He is likely the BEST analyst on baseball shows. And Jeter owns a baseball team. Both ended up doing great.
