It was the first time I ever saw Unearth live in a little hole-in-the-wall joint called Ground Zero. Spartanburg, SC in 2008. TBDM headlined that tour. My friend and I also went to see his buddy's band Decaying Face Down. Great name, yeah, but I don't think they ever amounted to anything. Shame... they had the talent. Anyways, we left the venue right as Black Dahlia was setting stage because "we wanted to beat the traffic". This was before I became a fan of them and was genuinely unfamiliar of them, and I cannot even begin to explain how many times I've kicked myself in the dick after all these years. Regret. Alex Rudinger is so unbelievably good at the drums! It's actually depressing how good he is as a drummer, but whilst saying that, he deserves every single bit of credit he gets. As he's been on his drumming pilgrimage, I've watched and I've listened...sometimes in disbelief! His technique and insistence on playing natty is a true inspiration that I hope continues to grab hold of the metal drumming community. It's also a massive bonus that he's an absolute hero of a human on a personal level. The man holds himself to such high standards, both from a musical perspective and also personally as well. We should all aspire to be just a fraction of who this man is....a legend. Keep doing what you're doing Alex. I personally consider you an anomaly in the system and wish I could do just a fraction of the things that you do on the kit. I've only a few of my own aces, but you have the royal flush on every occasion. LEGEND.

Hearing about Trevor's death a few months ago from a metalhead buddy of mine caused me to look into their discography. I remember hearing about them the better part of 20 years ago, but never heard anything until I looked this song up because of the title. I recognized it from CastleVania II: Simon's Quest on the NES, and when I read the lyrics, I realized that Trevor modeled the song's subject matter after a stylized, more graphic envisioning of the events of that game. Love this more melodic deathcore stuff, and this song is fantastic! Great rendition, Alex! Loved the limb independence, and your wrist technique for the blast beats was immaculate!
