Love this guy and always will. After the ‘87 election, as a snotty 8 year old, it was Salmond, Sheridan and Thatcher made me a lifelong Scottish nationalist. During those depressing days he was the only person you’d ever see on TV bigging up Scotland instead of the usual Jock-bashing you’d hear on a near daily basis. You’d see the fear of the Londonites when they had to debate him and obviously he’d always come out on top. A truly, great Scot !!

My opinion on these types of programs is that Scotland should give the other member countries of the UK notification of a referendum on independence. If we fail then we will try again and again until we satisfy ourselves on what we want and then do it. If anyone would be foolish to try and interfere with our written rights, then our rights would have to be tested or they would be meaningless.

If you honestly believe that leaving over 350 British institutions and treaties (CTA) losing thousands of linked GB jobs changing currency losing UK pension funding and placing a trading and customs border between Scotland and England not to mention 1million settled status applications for Scots living and working across the UK is all a good idea then this westminster ran privy council member and signatory to the Scottish King is an Olympic athlete

Alex Salmond makes Sturgeon look like a nobody. She is not in the same class, has no ideas, ignored the grassroots and has betrayed Scotland with her feeble efforts on independence. I wish some SNP supporters would wake up and realise that she's been corrupted and is not for purpose. Sh'e also guilty of attempting to stitch Salmond up in court, which was utterly dreadful and unforgiveable.

Looking at the thumbs up in the comments below on Salmons' comments. One 16 another 15, Looking at the rest 1,3, and so on not high enough to be a threat to the union. In the light of the larger SNP Who are still under investigation hardly credible.

The problem lies in the SNP 'leadership'. Strategically and tactically inept or just unwilling they are just not up to the task of fighting for independence. OK they gave a date but with no sign or evidence of advance preparation for the fight. They are effectively 'fighting to lose'. Yet every day our national wealth is siphoned-off to another country that cares not a whit for The Scots. Scotland is probably the biggest energy producer in Europe yet our people will freeze when the power cuts start! We need a leader that fights for Scottish interests and that is just not to be found in the SNP.

@@murraygiles3191 SNP run us at 30billion deficit a year. This is around 10-15% gdp. It’s not as high as that usually but that’s even on top of extra UK funding due to covid. A bit of the gap is filled with extra funding, rest of the debt is taken on by the UK… it’s not specifically ours to worry about. If we leave though it may be, adjusted for population or gdp it will be around 10% of UK debt or 190 billion. This totals around 90-100% debt to gdp on day one of leaving m. Sturgeon has already said she will use North Sea oil taxes (which is less than 1% UK gdp) and borrowing to fund independence. We’re trying to get off new oil extraction sites, so let’s say there’s no additional licences or new taxes then where’s this money coming from? Our -30billion including NS revenues, so it will be mostly borrowing. That -30billion a year is assuming nothing changes, better or worse, but we’re without any of that additional UK funding and we need to pay interest on our debts. This would be dealt with by a central bank and our own currency, like it or not that’s probably how we will have to go. I’m not entirely sure if it will be credible given we already have plans to apply for EU membership and likely taking on the euro as much as sturgeon won’t admit it. This may put FUD on to the new Scottish pound which would mean it’s not as high as it could be. You’ve already seen what a dip to the dollar can do, if it’s drops and drops it makes this more expensive for us to buy and borrow, given we’re a country that sells services, not a production, it’s not a massive worry but it’s still a factor. SNP already have us pay more tax than we would if we lived anywhere else in the UK, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they raised it and it’s a wild guess to say military funding will be cut along, maybe completely dropped, with public sector spending. EU rules don’t want anyone with 60% debt to gdp, I doubt they will be massively bothered if we do but it may be one of the issues we face while applying. If EU membership even takes 5-10 years which is quick, we may be within half a trillion of debt (current deficit for 10 years + reduction of funding + divorce bill). We will have that and more which is 4x that of greece debt (adjusted for population). This may not go on forever, not going to lie it might work out alright. I support people’s decision to leave but it’s not as simple as sticking two fingers up at England. Things could get much worse than they already are, I’m not willing to bet my kids and grandkids futures just to piss off the English that one time in 2023 lol. Each to their own though.
