Nice video. The Golfing Machine is great. I never really trusted many golf teachers as they are mostly parroting what some one told them. As a scientist and pretty good observer, I realized that no two golf swings are the same. If a golf instructor does not seat down with you for 15-30 minutes, during your first lesson to figure out where you are coming from, you should move on. They should ask what hand you write with and from which side of the ball you like to play golf. If you are left handed and play golf right handed you swing the the club differently. Homer Kelly figured this out and it makes a difference. TGM is great stuff!!

@@tonyparrish5366 how did Alex explain the hitting of the driver? Instead of hitting up with the driver he said to hit down, don’t understand that concept
@tonyparrish53662 жыл бұрын
@@dougdean8996he touches on that in the first part of the tape. I recall him saying that lag was the determining factor in the swing and that all shots were to be with a descending blow. The center of the arc for the driver is left shoulder area (right hander) and the bottom of the arc is at the left toe or slightly inside. When you are swinging down with the driver with lag you reach the impact area at clubhead center which produces the necessary trajectory. That is as I understand it. If you load and carry, as he explains in his video, you are bottoming out the swing at impact as you swing down with lag. There are better explanations from someone more polished than I am and maybe someone who reads this can give the geometry of the swing relative to what Alex is talking about. I am sorry that I did not get to have a lesson with Alex after he started teaching the Golfing Machine. I do have the book and I have watched and watched his video and what I try to do relative to the video is: steady head, balance and rhythm along with his No. 4 power accumulator, load and carry. He taught me square to square in the 60's and then I did not see him again but one time when he was giving someone lessons and did not want to interrupt him. Sorry this was so long.

So Mr Sloan wasn't in the first classes but later classes. I believe, if memory serves, Mr Sloan was introduced to TGM by Tommy Tomasello who was in the area where Mr Sloan worked. So he wasn't in the first classes that took place in 1970 in the Seattle area. No matter, Mr Sloan was one of the best GSE's ever. He attended in January, 1980.

What I've been wanting to see for years now. Thank you so very much for sharing this. I wouldn't have watched it if i didn't see 45 minutes on the time stamp. God does do things interestingly. It's a good explanation of some the most important concepts of TGM. But unfortunately, 3D data and other high tech measuring equipment shows that a majority of tour pros are actually extending and flexing their wrists (so no intact left/right flying wedges). Maybe they are all swinging in a non-optimal way (no constant flat left wrist), but we have to use any commonalities they have as a reference to something good they are doing in their swings. I'm sure if Homer was alive today, he would have changed his opinions to cater for all the new research data that measures the kinetics and kinematics of elite golfer swing mechanics.

Can someone please explain. Alex says you hit down with all clubs. Does this include the driver as I thought with the driver you swing up to the ball. Thanks
@robsaxepga5 ай бұрын
Mr Kelley says that the downstroke is downward, outward and forward. With the ball positioned just behind the low point of the arc, the club will be traveling slightly down to level with a driver. Men's tour average I believe is 1 to 3 degrees downward. Ladies tour is 1 to 3 degrees up. The key here is the definition of rhythm as stated by Mr Sloan here and maintaining the flat left wrist for all shots. (Mr Kelley says it's mandatory through impact) If the club shaft passes the left arm before impact, a bent left wrist will occur thus destroying the flat left wrist. The deceleration of the club will be multiplied at impact and you'll lose distance. It's called the law of the flail in chapter 2-K. I'm a gsem authorized instructor in Northern California.

Nothing against this guy, may he rest in peace, but he's got things skewed a little. At the very beginning of the video, he tells us Homer Kelley's secret to golf. Mr. Sloan says Homer Kelley's secret to golf is elusive, indispensable, and mandatory (0:50). Thats not what Homer Kelley said. Homer Kelley said the secret to golf is simple, elusive, and indispensable (pg. 78). This is markedly different than what Mr. Sloan said. Homer Kelley also goes on to say it is also without compensation and always present. It is Mr. Sloan's opinion it is mandatory, he states we must have it. While that may be true, it is Sloan's opinion, not Kelley's book, and certainly not Homer Kelley's secret.
