MMA is the hardest sport to pick for. I think Merab isn't going to be able to shoot as many takedowns as he usually does. I think Sean's range, movement, etc is going to make Merab pause. He won't be able to just shoot, shoot, shoot, non stop. If he does just wreckless go for it non stop, he's going to get KO'd. Yan had good success with takedowns on Sean bc Yan also has elite striking and speed to worry about. When Sean doesn't have to worry about the striking as much, he won't be as open to takedowns. I think early Merab doesn't shoot as much because the "look" will just be off and he's going to have to adjust for it. I think by round 2 and 3 he either starts getting the timing and increases the takedowns, or he gets tired of not being able to get the takedown so he takes some risks and just goes for it. Then it'll be up to Sean to find that button or not, and he's shown he usually does. I think Merab also has so many takedowns because people seem to be able to get back up. You can't get 6 takedowns in a round unless the guy got up 5 times. Sean seems to be pretty good at getting up too. 30 takedown attempts by Merab is 30 sniping attempts by Sean, and I think Sean wins that game. But who knows... it's MMA. Khabib wobbled Conor bc Khabib's grappling is so good that you have to play him for that. Anything can happen lol

excellent point on the takedown count - high number of takedowns doesn't mean much if you can't keep them down or do damage. fights are scored on damage and Sean just puts out more of it, even if he doesn't get the KO. there's no submission or finish threat from Merab - that's 5 rounds for Sean to find his chin or piece him up like Chito.

I loved the analysis on Ortega v Lopes. I am very excited for this fight, and have gone back and forth in me head on it.. i feel Ortega is so tough, and finds subs often. He just has a strong survival instinct(in a way, he is not super defensive in the striking all the time.. more for avoiding finishes i think..) and a really good mind for finding the finish on opponents imo. But i also think Lopes swarms and i could see him overwhelming Brian and landing a big flurry. Ortega chin is crazy but i feel eventually things change. I am unsure his chin can hold out forever.. it may not be this fight tho idk.. i lean Diego but not confident. Same w Merab v Suga. I lean Sean but Merab cardio and pace worries me for Suga. If he can't find his shot early things could snowball maybe.. but i lean towards Suga sniping him bc i feel Suga seems very disciplined and able to stay composed. I think it would take a lot for Merab to get Suga flustered, but nothing is impossible i think. Always enjoy Volk's analysis and breakdowns!

I'm glad you focused on the screen during the fights and went into how it could effect the fights..? I've said from the beginning that the sphere is awesome BUT i don't think it's good for a live UFC event.. i could be wrong.. i still think the UFC dropped the ball with how they have the least amount of fights and most of the fights are not that compelling for the majority of casual fans. I'm surprised they didn't arrange more exciting upper level fights & more fights in general on this card.. Last thing, the UFC completely messed up with charging the most expensive prices for this event even tho this card is lacking in it's # of fights and in the draw of the majority of their fights...

Dana said 14,000 seats will have the sound plus the feelings of the sounds in their seats so I would imagine they would show the fights on the big screen to coincide with the sounds of the striking matching the feelings. I wish I could have helped with the planning of this sphere card I had so many ideas. I’m hoping during the fight they have it look like an arena of the old days. Where everyone packs into the coliseum and watches the conquistadors. So it just looks like a crazy back drop of people watching the fight. But it goes all the way up and there’s banners and tiers going all the way up representing the Mexican heritage . That’s really the only thing I can think of that they can do during the fight
