Alexander and S Kawai are perfectly unified. In one of his interviews, he talked about Shigeru Kawai’s beautiful watercolour ‘blurred’ undefined sound - typically Japanese aesthetic nature - really matches his image of Chopin’s music - personal, complex and flexible. Shigeru’s piano sings as if he finally finds his master. Very interesting pedalling too. I look forward to coming to your recital.

I love your insight . Another ( Japanese person ) commented that she felt Japanese feeling .also the deep and soft sound of bass range is soothing . I think the Kawai’s sounds match with delicate and complex sounds of Chopin . I’m surprised that 3 final contesters choose Kawai at this competition alongside with Fazoli. I didn’t know this pianist until now , but I like his style and sensitivity . Good luck for him .

How can anyone say that the Kawai is inferior to this or that? Its sound is so mellow and organic that only a souless person could dislike it. Anf Gadjev was obviously born to it. They belong to each other.

Not only his finger movements but also his facial expressions, his posture, and entire body are making beautiful sounds and deep atmosphere, which is impressive. @tonytony87472 жыл бұрын
I'm a classical pianist and I've been studying this sonata for years. IMO, this is a wonderful rendition. But to call it the most electrifying performance in this competition is a stretch.
@sobakakustovsky39092 жыл бұрын
@@tonytony8747 I'm a classical pianist too. I've been studying Chopin since my childhood. To me it was the most electrifying performance together with Garcia's rendition of second piano concerto in the finals. We all have different perceptions. Music is very subjective. Some judges gave him 25 points, others gave him just 20. I would have given him 25 points but nobody has to agree with me.
@LC-ig2jm2 жыл бұрын
Ebi gave Gadjiev ALL 25’s for stage1, stage2 AND stage3. And she only gave Bruce a 20. That’s ridiculous! Considering Gadjiev made a lot of mistakes and even improvised in earlier rounds. A few errors is ok, but all 25 for all 3 rounds? Gadjiev would be in 3rd if it wasn’t for Ebi’s bias….
@sobakakustovsky39092 жыл бұрын
@@LC-ig2jm You have to understand that different jurors apply different criteria. Akiko Ebi obviously doesn't place technical perfection and clean playing as her prioritised criteria. Now, when I think about the most famous pianists from the past, Horowitz and Rubinstein immediately come to my mind. If you listen closely to their live performances, you'll notice that they played lots of wrong notes. There are many instances where -for many people the greatest Chopin interpreter- Arthur Rubnstein had memory lapses and played dozens of wrong notes. Vladimir Horowitz's playing was always rich in wrong notes. There are thousands of pianists in the world who play cleaner than those two men. Yet why are we remembering them? Simply because their playing touched peoples hearts. Both had a strong personality in their playing. For this reason they are considered to be legends. Their technique isn't certainly the number one determining factor for their status as legends. Alexander Gadjiev played so little wrong notes that it didn't bother me at all. What struck me was his poetic approach. His playing touched me each time. Bruce Liu is fantastic. I agree with you (and everybody in the jury). However he didn't touch me personally so much as Gadjiev and Garcia. Bruce's playing is certainly very athletic and fresh but I wouldn't have given him 25 points because Of certain reasons: he played mostly sparkling pieces- he didn't show his lyric side. In the concerto he was tense at moments, banged some accords, didn't have enough tone in the second movement. His greatest quality is his incredible leggiero and crisp articulation. I think that Gadjiev's intimate style is more in accordance with Chopin's own introverted personality and noble vision. Of course: NOBODY HAS TO AGREE WITH ME!
@LC-ig2jm2 жыл бұрын
@@sobakakustovsky3909 Ebi gave Cho the highest score of all the pianists in 2015. Cho was a fabulous technical pianist in 2015, but he was by far NOT the most lyrical. Kate Liu and Hamelin were the lyrical ones in 2015. But Ebi gave Kate Liu a score of "3" (!) as a final ranking in 2015. A score of “3” in 2015 is outrageous for Kate Liu! Almost as bad as Entremont's "1" for Cho. By that account, you cannot say Ebi prefers lyricism over technique. Because Cho is not 6 points higher than Kate Liu in 2015! If you think Bruce isn't lyrical, listen to his heart-felt romance in the Concerto from the concert with Eva(who should have gotten a prize). Or Bruce’s nocturne in stage 1 or his Scherzo in E major. Bruce was actually a little off on the day of the final, but he certainly was right on during the concert with Eva. There's no way Ebi should be giving a 25 to Gadjiev while giving Liu a 20. This is misusing the scoring system to downgrade 1 great pianist in favor of another.. There should be 2 separate set of scores in a piano competition. A technical score, and an artistic score. And it should be scored from 1-5, NOT 1-10. This way, a biased juror can't give a technically flawed performance a perfect score just because they "like" the pianist better. Or a technically perfect pianist a "1" just because the juror don't like him or her.
