⭐️Before the 4th Century BC, Macedonia was a small kingdom outside of an area dominated by the great city-states of Athens, Sparta and Thebes briefly subordinate by Achaemenid Empire.
⭐️Macedonia subdued mainland Greece and the Thracian Odrysian kingdom through conquest and diplomacy. With a reformed army containing phalanxes wielding the sarissa pike, Philip II defeated the old powers of Athens and Thebes in the Battle of Chaeronea in 338 BC.
⭐️Phillip’s son, Alexander destroyed Thebes gaining control of Greece and led the Macedonian Army in Achaemenid territory, conquering it and building an empire stretching to the Indus River.
⭐️In this video we are going to see how did the Macedonian Army gained so much prestige and what were its weapons, troop composition and the famed “Hammer and Anvil” tactic.
⭐️Even from an young age I was interested about the Macedonian Empire and recently found their key to succes, the Phalanx in combination with heavy cavalry used in the "Hammer and Anvil" tactic.
