Hey there! Matthew from Alexander Pedals here, thanks for posting such a lovely demo. I'd be happy to address your complaints about the pitch shifting portion of the algorithm - please understand that it's not "laziness" at all, and that we didn't just use the same algorithm for our FXCore base pedals. The underlying code is quite different by necessity, but the pitch-shift approach is the same for both chips. Neither FV-1 nor FXCore has enough horsepower for phase vocoder / FFT based shifting, so we have to use a moving delay line approach much like the original Eventide 919. The harshness you're hearing is due to the upper harmonics of the original signal being shifted and then aliasing when they exceed the sample rate of the DSP, and I agree it is pretty nasty especially through an interface. It's way less horrible through a guitar amp that rolls off the highs around 5-7kHz! Based on your feedback I've been working on a revised set of algorithms that implement an adaptive filter to keep the really high harmonics out of the shifted voice, both before and after the shift section. This prevents the input signal from being shifted into the "bad" range as well as rolls off the out-of-band high freqs before they have a chance to hit the audio output and make the clangy / metallic overtones that are so nail-screechingly awful through a full-range system. If you're interested in being part of the solution, please email me through the website and I can get you the beta version to test. Hopefully it addresses some of the issues you're having and we can make the pedal better for everyone. Cheers!

Hey! Thanks so much for reaching out! I also really appreciate the time you took to go over all this behind-the-scenes info. 👍 I didn't use an interface for this, as I always record direct into my phone from my Amp Academy, but I use my Katana for monitoring while I'm recording the demo and the pitch-shifting sounds the same to me. Good to know exactly what it is that I'm hearing in that pitch-shifted effect that I dislike so much. I've never had it explained to me before! I find all this stuff fascinating, although it's also way over my head. 😄 I've owned a couple of your pedals in the past (Marshmallow and Colour Theory) and I had to part ways with them as I just couldn't live with that upper frequency thing you described. I would absolutely love the chance to test out a revised version of your algorithm, so thank you for that! Unfortunately I don't have this pedal anymore as I was only borrowing it from Megan L - who's a good friend of mine and obviously did a much better demo of this pedal than I did. Haha! But if I'm still able to test or demo anything for you, I'd consider it a privilege. Thanks again for weighing-in with the extra info on this pedal, Matthew. And I look forward to hearing from you again! 🤓👍

Great video of one of my all time favorites! Highly recommend an expression pedal with this guy.

If any pedal is worth having menues to navigate, its got to be this. Some truly outrageous sounds in this machine!

I totally agree!

some of those lofi reverb sounds are insane. I would love a simplified version of just the ‘Gleaming’ preset and a couple params

So strange, I don't think I could find a place for this one on my board

Yeah, it's definitely not for everyone. 😄

Very nice demo Slappy! I think that this pedal it has a good potential as a ring mod factory, but not much as a "glitch" box :D

Cheers mate! Yeah, I think i'm inclined to agree.

Haven't played syntax error 2 or 1, but I have never played a decent digital ring modulator [ ehx ring thing, sybdecay vitruvian mod, iron ether frantabit, and that ridiculous one in the marshmallow]. Like suboctaves I have come to the conclusion that some effects need to be analogue. Edit I forgot the awful ring mod in enzo by meris

I loved the EHX Ring Thing, tbh. Wish I'd never sold it! I'm curious about that new Red Panda one as well. That looks like it'll be rather promising...

@@PedalExperiments I much prefer the ehx frequency analyzer. It stacks perfect with on oc2 or octave multiplexer before it, a low pass filter after it and a bitcrusher last, before any delays ,reverbs. Have never been happy with pandas, sold, particle v2, tensor, bitmap v2 and raster as fast as i could. Still the hype makes them easy to move with minimal losses, especially if you buy them 2nd hand. Eqd stuff was like that and could easily be sold but people have started to realize that it's mainly hype by influencers and more keep appearing in pawn shops dirt cheap. Eventually the same will happen with the poor pandas .

Some interesting sounds but I'm just too old to be fiddling with menus
@PedalExperiments2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've never been a massive fan of navigating a menu system. Although having presets does make it less annoying for me, personally.

@@PedalExperiments what are their other, less complicated pedals like? Or Chase Bliss who seem to occupy a similar territory?
@PedalExperiments2 жыл бұрын
I've only tried their complex pedals, tbh. I definitely think having the screen helps a lot, compared to their Neo series. CBA are just as complex, especially with the dipswitches on the back, but at least they're a bit easier to navigate, imo.

Anything with a screen is easier to use than some thing where you have to remember combination of button presses. Sounds great BTW 👍
