Dear Alex, God Bless You! my sincere wishes and prayers for you. Excellent presentation studded with scintillating humour and references to great stalwarts. I truly appreciate you for the references: Sri Shuddananda Bharathiyar, Subhash Anna, MS Amma & others. As a composer, Ilyaraja (in our hearts we hold on to our own 'personal' Ilayaraja without titles etc., - there is such an intimate, personal feeling to it - there is an overwhelming affection - so I always use just the name - plz don't mistake) has created absolutely fabulous melodies in various ragas, without compromising on their essential lakshanam, bhavam, yet extremely hummable and accessible to all. Truly amazing! This song 'malargale' scores full marks just for the pallavi phrase alone - look at the swaras - ga pa sa ni ---- ( a lingering neeeee...) sa ri - pa sa ni pa - ri ga pa riiiii ---- what follows is a sweet cajoling phrase - ga ri sa ni pa ri....ga ri -ri ga... I have always marvelled at this brilliant opening, simply no words! One point that may interest you is: the swaras - ga - pa - niiiii (lingering, long ni) if you sing again and again, you may notice that is akin to a bird's call: apparently this is how the mythological bird Annam (Swan) made sound - hence the name - Hamsadwani is what I have heard. I loved your explanation too, linking the name to the swaroopa of the raga :) The reference to Paramahamsa has a couple of additional points: the breathing of enlightened beings is established in 'So - ham ' : ref en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soham_(Sanskrit) In Tamizh this has been captured as "வாசி - சிவா ". There is a corresponding reference in the Christian Tradition - " I am that I am". I extend my sincere appreciation to you for highlighting the "auspicious nature" (மங்கள அம்சம் ) of this ragam. Every ragam has sooooo much to offer... I truly feel that Sangeeta Devathai (சங்கீத தேவதை ) has chosen you to do this great service of taking music to everybody. I watch your videos - big fan. My husband watches your videos, in his 30s. My son watches your videos, 5 yr old. Yesterday I saw, my father in law is watching your video. I asked him if he is randomly watching, he told he is big fan, he is 70 yr old. My MIL told she also likes your videos. My nieces were watching 10 yr old and 6 yr old. Yet to ask my Brother in law and co sister 🙃
