I was in the audience for this filming (I can say the ball was tossed around 4 times ONLY with no re-throws) and it was the best trick done that day by far! The others filmed that day being Penns daughter Moxie and a Chinese lady who did dove magic. Cards can always be messed with and Doves can't come from nowhere, this trick here though blew the other 2 away that day!

That's cool, did you get to meet P & T and is there any sign of the tricks being staged?
@6B26asyGKDo
@6B26asyGKDo 5 ай бұрын
@@TheTruthKiwi Nope, they were in and out and no meet and greets. From what I saw I didn't see anything that looked staged. Ball was thrown around once and it landed randomly. I suspect sometimes the show cuts footage that may give something away, and if so with this trick I'm sure it was something like quick and subtle slight of hand. I'll say the applause is staged in a way lol. Multiple takes of the director telling everyone to clap and cheer lmao. Sometimes the host had to redo her lines.

Penn and Teller were fooled by an incredibly similar trick (duct tape around the head, then a card choice, the a pull out of the mouth) all the way back in season 1. Kinda fascinating to see something like this come back around and get them again. Its also very interesting to see the same effect in wildly different presentation (and I'm guessing a different method). Great stuff
@YuriyDavygora
@YuriyDavygora 9 ай бұрын
It's a totally different method. In the one you mention, and I hope I'm not giving too much away, a bit of choreography was used to load the card, when no-one suspected any foul play. But here, nothing of the sort seems to have happened and also, the card was sealed in plastic, and I literally have no idea how it could have been done.

@avi8r66
@avi8r66 11 ай бұрын
@@euginepanisales3609 yeah I was joking. But really there are only a couple of ways this can be done the way she performed it. Either it was a force, the choice of card being known in advance, or a gimmick/device in the gag tape. It would either print/fold/seal the card packet or have all the possibilities ready to go. There was no space for either of those in the discarded gag and it was laying there on the stage exposed to view, any device in the gag would have sounded very un tape like when it hit. Which leaves a force. And while that seems unlikely, it's not entirely impossible. Guessing, my education in magic comes from decades of Penn & Teller shows over their whole career. And all too often I have seen them go easy on someone because there really are very few ways this could be done, and hiding the card behind the board isn't one of them.

The performance started with me being underwhelmed- big stage illusions are arent difficult. And then, with cynicism well entrenched, i thought "yeah ten of diamonds, big deal- now what? - do the impossible- pull it out of your mouth"....and i don't mind admitting, that when she did i was so awe struck that that cynicism immediately turned into respect- and desire. And she was so humble when she received the well deserved trophy. Kudos sister ❤

It's funny how you pick up on the conventions. When the closeup game after the card selection was finalized, all the dots came together -- oh yeah, that's right, there's tape. Wait, it's gonna be in her MOUTH? How? How can any freely selected card be in her mouth? When could that happen? I literally went "nnnnaaah, nooo waaay" the second I realized that's where it was going, out loud to myself with nobody round

Yes, the first item wasn't even a trick. Neither hands nor feet were bound; the chains were loose. Perhaps it was included for contrast with what followed. I've examined the card trick in slow motion; she didn't insert anything into her mouth. I'm not sure why Penn wanted to inspect the back of the blackboard, unless he expected to find 51 other cards there to infer sleight of hand.

I think that's the key... the card has to be gimmicked... and remember the producers know how the trick is done (as they're ultimately the judges that determine whether Penn and Teller work it out in borderline cases). She very carefully unfolds the gimmicked card to "reveal" the card the audience members free-choice selected. And at the very end, she holds her hands behind her back as she must be hiding the card presumably in her pocket, as shortly after she's no longer holding the card.

@@marklawrence9177 it seems to me that she loaded the gimmick (thin top layer containing the face of a 10♦ card) from behind her head, when she holds her hair up as she untapes her mouth. she must have had 48 such gimmicks (all cards except aces - probably in 4 piles of 12 cards per color) attached behind her head. Starting at 5:09, her left hand stays behind her head for real long. I'd guess she attached the gimmick behind her index finger and that the gimmick is skin color on the outside. Then at 5:36 the funny business of attaching the gimmick to the (blank) card from her mouth begins.

The "magic" was done before she ever went on stage. She had multiple gimmicked cards in her mouth (hence the need for plastic around them to keep them dry). The selection process of the card was genuinely random. But, if you pause it at 5:47 you'll see that what she revealed is not a standard playing card. It's a multi-layer gimmick that only needs to be unfolded correctly to reveal the desired card face. It requires 4 of them (I think) in her mouth to encompass the entire deck. That's why she quickly and immediately hid the card and did not allow P&T to inspect the card. P&T got fooled because they were fixated on the belief she retrieved the selected card at 4:45 with her right hand and snuck it into her mouth. That's why they wanted to look behind the chalk board--they thought they'd find all the other possible cards there and were surprised when they weren't.

@@MavisRileyJunior It's one card and after she removed it from her mouth she stuck it in her back pocket. Slow down or pause the video when she reveals the card, you can see around the edges that it isn't straight and the card looks extra thick, the way she unfolded the card was very calculated as well. The card has all of the possible 52 card options on it, one just needs to know where to unfold it. Still a cool trick but surprised P&T didn't see the gimmicked card or ask to see it after she quickly hid it away.

Just going off a lot of stuff I found in the Comments. Yes, at 4:28 as her hand has come away from holding up the blackboard so that the force into the eraser to erase it doesn't push the whole easel over, her hand has a very slightly unnatural gesture. She could have something palmed poker-chip style between two fingers but you can't see it at all. You just see that the fingers look a little fey for what she's doing. If she's holding something she's good. This was before hearts was eliminated so that card in that plastic would have a way of being unfolded to be either the 10 of hearts or the 10 of diamonds, and she knew which only AFTER that move. IF it was a move.

First one didn't matter. She forced the choice to be even. They guessed even and she kept it. If they had guessed odd she would have eliminated odd and kept even. But the first girl also had a big nose and the magician also has a big nose so maybe they are related.

I researched it but I didn't figure it out till penn pointed at the board at the end and she seemed startled. It wasn't the turning the board she was worried about it was the eraser which is conveniently same size as the cards. Little finger manipulation as she's erasing the board she palms the final card and sticks in her mouth. Trust me she's not putting real duct tape on her face. In fact you can see it literally all off her. Face in the opposite direction she's pulling and twisting it off. Well done trick live. 9:01

5:15 you can see the card in her hand. From there she swaps that for the one she had in her mouth. The device in her hair gives her the card. That's why she had the audience shout the card. It's also why the first trick was done... it had an assistant. I think that's part of the rules. Penn and Teller didn't realize that the assistant from the first trick operated the device in her hair.

I could not see the card in her hand. I am going to assume you mean it was fed from her right hand. But at the end of the day, It is obvious that she fed the card, and the non-sticky duck tape made it obvious. Where I am confused though, is how did she happen to get the 10d from? I really do not know where she could have initially loaded the card.

This is basically the same thing as Jandro's first trick, except instead of saying right from the beginning what the set up was and having Penn and Teller pick the card, she didn't explain anything and had the audience decide. A card locked up beforehand, and it comes out after everyone picks out what it is. Probably a different method. Different sort of theatrics and drama. Great trick!

Removing the Aces and going with only 48 cards must mean something but I've no idea. It means that the odd/even choice reduces the pack into two EQUAL piles, while if the Aces were in it then odd/even would create a separation into 24 even cards and 28 odd cards, and that makes it break in some way. It may have something to do with the way 48 things can be divided into equal stacks in many more ways than 52 things. Where that math takes me, I don't know. 48 can be divided into 2 stacks of 24, 3 stacks of 16, 4 stacks of 12, 6 stacks of 8, and anything where the number of stacks and the cards per stack in the foregoing list is reversed (8 stacks of 6, 12 stacks of 4, etc.).

Not much has been written in the Comments about the FIRST trick. P&T were kinda dismissive of it but I have no idea how it was done. Obviously if you chain someone up like that, they'll wriggle out in 30 minutes, especially since their hands aren't anchored. But it was done in mere seconds. I checked again and I didn't see gaps in the web in the back that were large enough to make it easy for the every large assistant to get in WHILE he was pulling the curtain.
@jaspermcjasper3672
@jaspermcjasper3672 Ай бұрын
Maybe the whole web could move back as a unit. Then it's easy. But some of the spikes poke up way high, above the curtain, and the audience I'm sure doesn't see them move. Those end-pieces of web would have to be discontiguous from the web to do it that way. And I think I'm overthinking it vs. something a lot more obvious.

I always thought the rules of the show didn't allow for stooges? If I'm wrong then it's obviously very simple. But assuming that's a free choice there is only one way to do it and only one place for the index (in a prop that was both unnecessary and unusual and discreetly placed out of range when P&T came on stage!) What I really love tho is the editing, the director is clearly trying to not make it easy for youtubers to identify key moments!

The tape was without glue. She pulled air back so that it appeared that it was glued to the mouth. While she tied her hair, she somehow grabbed the right card which she took at 4:45. When she removes the tape, you see that she suddenly has something in her mouth. The board limits the choice. At the end, with red, she wipes away more than needed with black. The cards were behind the board and at 5:51 she removes the evidence.

I assume that she had multiple cards stored on her and palmed the right card when it was decided. That's still a lot of cards though. I could assume the first person was a plant, which cuts the number by half. There also aren't any aces, but after that you still have a lot of cards. She touched her hair a lot, so maybe she kept some there, and maybe others in her back pants?
