Me too but man, it also shows how perfect Alexandra’s face & brows are. If I zoomed in I’d look like a cross between Bert, and the ‘before’ pic of an estestican/facial ad. I try but full face makeup for 31 years leaves me with pore congestion almost all the time. Ugh.

Nothing ruins a no-makeup look more than clumpy mascara-- you nailed this. I've been doing something similar for years (I'm old), so this may help some folks who don't have a spoolie or a mascara brush on hand: You know those stubby little flat brushes many store-brands provide with a powder blush? They pretty much suck for applying blush, but they are the freakin' bomb for sweeping through lashes after applying mascara. Just hold it against your lashes and blink, and ta-daaaa-- you'll have nice, even, separated, natural-looking, clump-free lashes. Works with both regular and waterproof mascaras.

Two things: 1) the maybelline lash discovery mascara in waterproof has an even tinier wand that works PERFECTLY for coating lashes even from the back. 2) I have barely curlable lashes just like you. One of the most important tricks is to LET THEM DRY COMPLETELY after face washing, skincare, etc. Mascara is my dead last step for that reason.

@@lilynoir3939 You can scrape the wand on the mascara tube's opening, but that gets too messy for me. I use something like printer paper. Love that you mentioned the Clio one and the brown version! I had both of them even before you spoke about it for the first time and I can also vouch for their eyeliners (again, both black and brown - they have variations of brown) and their foundation, if you pick the correct formula. I’m a fan of Korean and Japanese make-up products and I order them from an international retailer, I think it’s totally worth it. So if anyone is interested in good brands for both natural and a bit more “done but not full-out there” looks, please check Clio and 3CE, they have amazing products.

Big color and “glam” will be back in no time, do not worry! Hell, it’s not really “out”, imho. Plus? Do what you like. Mix it up day-to-day. Go full glam on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s and natural nude on Monday & Wednesday. Or whatever! Play with your stuff, try new application methods with old favorite products. *Enjoy* it. That’s more important than any “trend” crap, which is just someone’s opinion at best. Bold “Euphoria” make is also trendy right now, so remember there is space for more than one thing.

Sensational! I was already planning to make a topic request: Mascara 101. I can't figure out which mascaras do what. I'd love to know the best type for different purposes and maybe top 2 recommendations for each. (Weddings. Working out/hot climate. Allergies. Contact lenses. Sensitive eyes. Long wear. Curl/noncurl. Spider lashes. Natural lashes, like today, etc.) I'm tired of wasteful experiments. Example: "Tubing" is not necessarily labeled on the container, and I'm in the minority that prefers to avoids those because two highly rated tubing mascaras bombed on me. I end up with tiny filaments inside my eye and across my undereye. Not cute. What are the code words? Which ones hold curl, which don't? Which ones are most prone to flake or smudge with lashes that touch the upper or lower lid? Decoding, hints, would be appreciated!

Tubing mascaras wash off with warm water - I believe that's how you tell before you buy - look for these instructions. I listen out for "dry formula" mascaras in reviews because those tend to separate lashes better than "wet formula" mascaras. "Hannah Louise Poston" has a great mascara roundup review with very good close ups and explanations!

This is SPECTACULAR!! I hate brown mascara on me because I usually use black eyeliner on top and it looks weird (also I have dark lashes). But black mascara (even 'light black,' or whatever) looks so harsh on me. Because I have longer lashes, it can quickly go into false eyelash territory, which isn't a bad thing in and of itself, at the right times, but having something inbetween is glorious! I just tried it and I think it looks great!! I love that formula too because it adds a ton of volume, but it “stretches” up the lash so the tips don’t look gunky. In other words, it sorta does what this video aims for on its own. I find it great for helping my lashes look really naturally fluttery especially since I usually stick to a single coat. Lancôme’s Lash Idole has a really similar effect. Only drawback with Lash Paradise is it starts to get dry very quickly in the tube. I have to replace it very often compared to most other formulas.

@@swesttttt oh yay! I hope it works out for you! If your dental pics don’t have the larger spooly I’ve bought a pack that I just use for that! I also apply castor oil or Vaseline on my lashes with them! 🤩

This is such a great idea!! Thank you for sharing! I too was thinking about trying to find that lash brush online and never even thought that I have what I need already in my bathroom cabinet. Thank you, again!

Yes, that looks epic and natural. I often brush the eyelashes with clean spoolie afterwards, but I've been using way too much and evenly distributed mascara to look "invisible". Next time I'm gonna try roots only 👍

Thank you!!! I am super fair with super blonde lashes. As I’ve gotten older I just hate that MAKE UP look. Lately more into subtle no-make up make up looks. I resorted to using my eyebrow gel to use on my lashes, but have been wondering how to make mascara look less chunky and fake. This is it!! Can’t wait to try this. Actually really hope it works/I can do it Lolol.

I have never seen that tool from Melt and I’m definitely buying it!! Thank you for posting this video…great tip for days when you want that natural look and to just get great tips on application!! I have always used a business card when applying mascara to get rid of the excess mascara, help pull my lashes up and avoid getting it on my lid/skin. It works great, but I definitely want to try this Melt tool!!

I find that if you just use the regular wand after curling and just focus on the base then gently blink into the wand you get the same effect.. almost like an ombré where it’s thicker at the base then the tips are lightly coated… I’m a boy have only always done the “no makeup makeup look” for 6+ years so I would say that technique has been very good for the natural lash look with mascara! :D *also waterproof mascara always! It has a better consistency for this look!*

Thankyou so much- I hate lots of makeup now I’m older (50s) and really appreciated this tutorial- can’t wait to try. Please 🙏 tell us where you got your little eyelash brush tool thingy- I absolutely hate mascara clumps and would love one of these. Also I have sparse lashes so any help with separation is great to stop what little I have sticking together!

In my experience, tubing/fiber mascaras tend to have this "natural" look (and this tiny type of brush, as well). Which I love, I do not like the spidery, overly done look, unless I am wearing a ton of makeup (e.g. evening). You can build them up to varying extent, but they are definitely all more on the natural side (so that when you look at reviews of any of them, some people will even complain that "the mascara does not do anything", lol. :) ). E.g. the Glossier mascara, Clinique Power Lash, Victoria Beckham's mascara is also tubing, Mac has recently brought out one, and many brands nowadays have one type of tubing/fibre mascara. In my experience, they also hold a curl (the Glossier certainly does, it's my favourite so far, even though I am always looking for a good alternative; the main disadvantage of the Glossier one is that it dries out pretty quickly, but it's not a huge issue as it's quite inexpensive relative to more "luxury" brands, so I just replace it more often). I almost exclusively wear tubing/fibre mascaras, because most of the "standard" ones run/flake on me, including the waterproof ones. I have both watery eyes (bad for "normal" mascara), as well as relatively long lashes combined with oily eyelids and wear glasses (bad for waterproof mascara), so the tubing/fibre ones tend to perform the best on me, with minimal flaking/running (though some are better in this respect than others and if your eyes are watery all day long (allergies etc.), then even the most resistant mascara will fade at least a bit...).

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'm a natural blonde with fair skin and undetectable blonde eyelashes until I apply mascara. But I'm a chill beachy girl and love the very light no-makeup makeup look. I've been through many mascaras and variations but this is the most perfect tutorial and if this products are still available (forgot to check the date) I'll be picking those up this weekend. Thank you.

I don’t remember if you have tried the Sky High mascara from Maybelline, but I have had great luck with my lashes staying curled without it being waterproof. And it lasts without flaking or smudging. As an experiment, I’ve kept it on my lashes 3 days with no deterioration. I have never seen a tool like the one you used to feather out the lashes. They looked very natural but also well defined. Thanks for all the things you bring to us.
