I think we should all stop the “it feels cheap” mentality and give priority to move towards ecofriendly packaging. That way companies will not feel obligated to use harmful packaging. We NEED to move towards sustainability.

I totally agree!! Except for when the packaging feels "cheap" because it's made out of plastic rather than glass. Saying that, I actually need to properly look into the environmental effects of plastic vs glass 🤔🤗

@@Hippidippimahm Yes, but the problem of more damaging transportantion still persists... there's no specific material that can work as a perfect solution (though yes, it true that plastic is truly overused and terrible for the environment in its end-of-life). ultimately, reducing and reusing are always the best policies, in my belief

I think the paper packaging should be embraced. This is a single use package that is immediately thrown out! We need to collectively move toward materials & packaging that can easily decompose and isn't harmful on the planet. I am happy Rare Beauty considered our environment when creating packaging and PR, just think about the immense amount of additional plastic trash it could have caused if they went for all plastic instead. We the people decide where companies will put there focus. If we complain that paper packaging feels "too cheap" then companies will stop taking sustainable measures and continue making everything with plastic, since creating with plastic is the cheapest option for the company already. Each one of us has control on the future of our planet. When we voice a desire and demand for sustainable and environmental packaging and products, companies change their practices to provide it. We have been brainwashed into thinking plastic is high-end due to the mass use of plastic, when in reality plastics are extremely cheap materials which is why they have been widely used by companies. We have inherited decades of harmful environmental practices, and now we have to look at the environmental neglect and re-train ourselves to see the benefit of sustainability and environmental responsibility. I know it can take a long time to reduce plastic dependence, but single-use plastics is the best way to start! PS:I recommended paper packages that can decompose since recycling plastics is a myth; less than 9% of all plastics in the world have been recycled!

I believe she focused her brand to be eco-friendly or green, if I'm not mistaken. I think they're meant to be recyclable (: which would probably give that papery feel because some prints and inks aren't as biodegradable so that could be a factor. To each their own, I think it's pretty cool for the brand to be eco-friendly. I feel like many of the beauty companies focus too much on packaging and PR packages that I toss or gets tossed anyway. It's a waste and I feel bad for the environment when I toss it out. Personally, I think more companies should be more eco-friendly with their packages and products! (:

Same!!!!! I recommend nudi goods. Even if mainstream makeup items are recyclable it also needs to be easy to get the product remnants out when its gone. Rare beauty products aren't recyclable, that I read. What could be worse is her base is saying its eco friendly or sustainable or green when it is just cruelty free and vegan. Cruelty free and vegan is great but is the minimum she could do? The thousands of products will go to landfill, that is not eco friendly lol. Lots of brands have been CF for years. Also I was reading but don't quote me that all chemicals are tested in some way on animals but after it gets approved its in a special approved category, and people claim that to be cruelty free/vegan even though AT ONE TIME previously it WAS being tested on animals. So she is benefitting from labs who tested it in the past but now claiming its not tested on animals.

And as far and the packaging of the product itself, I don’t really care about that also. I’m buying the product for the product inside. As long as that’s great. I’m happy. Also, can we as a community push for biodegradable packing? All of this plastic is going into penguins stomachs basically. The beauty community puts out SO much waste. I wish we would make a demand for biodegradable packaging. We can do better!❤️ EDIT: Also I didn’t mean my comment in a rude or snarky way towards Alexandria or anyone. I’m always confused when people say something has “too much pigment” like with the brow products. I’d rather train myself to have a softer hand then use up half the product trying to get a look for my eyebrows. Maybe it’s because I’m a darker skin toned but I run through Benefit eyebrow products in less than 2 months and I have full eyebrows. And that’s with not using it everyday

Not a selena fan, but I think some makeup brands are lost in translation. Alot of companies such as it cosmetics, glossier and korean makeups are not intended for a full face glam, these brands are specifically marketed to the "natural makeup" women and although a review should validate a products effectivity, product description should also be taken into consideration. Sorry if this is such a long descriptive comment, I just felt the need to explain this as I just finished a long tedious thesis paper on different makeup brands

Tbh, when most people heard she was dropping a make-up line, they pre-judged it and said it was just a cash grab. Now KZbinrs and MUAs are trying it and actually liking it. People of color also tend to like the products more because it's so pigmented and like that they don't have to use half the bottle on their face to get color payoff, seems like the reason why these products aren't suited for Alexandra is because she's very pale and doesn't like much pigment on her skin

The mic muff must be helping, and you can always play around with a lo-pass filter in post (or while shooting if you record audio on a dedicated recorder that has a lo-pass filter). Can't hear the fan too much. One thing I will say is that I've always appreciated your channel for not using background music. Not that I hate background music, but I think a lot of KZbinrs use it unecessarily, and it only complicates the editing and publishing process (i.e., sourcing copyright free content/avoiding copyright strikes). Your videos are so helpful re: troubleshooting what makeup does specifically. So much of the time when I watch a makeup tutorial style of video, it is just a repetition of the same steps without explaining the purpose of each, and how it effects the face. You do a great job of explaining those things, while also thoroughly showing up close what each does. I have learned so much about application, and it seems the foundational purpose of each step-- I understand the purpose of contour now! It is so refreshing to see a KZbinr with the same creasing eyelids, and under eye discoloration as me. In a world full of fake, airbrushed beauty, it is refreshing to see someone who shares the same perfectly imperfect features. I like that your under eye filler is dissolving because you’re the only KZbinr that I can use for reference to see if a product will cover up under eye darkness before purchasing (like this concealer, for example; hard pass). I converted to brushes for my undereye concealer about 3-6 months ago. And it takes getting used to, because I use less concealer but because of the precision, I get better coverage and it's way less likely to get cakey and that's true across the board. I fully switched to brush for foundation (but I always finish with a sponge, when I got natural hair foundation brushes. Except for a couple of higher coverage matte foundations for which I still use a beauty blender. And somehow, despite using brushes for concealer and foundation, I still manage to use 2 beauty blenders every time I do my makeup. Well, one beauty blender and one super porous Elf.

Random question: how do you know if you are on the PR list? Do you assume you’re not and just go out and buy it? But that seems like such a waste. I know you can just donate whatever you get. I'm surprised to hear that people are mad about your review, it seems really fair to me? People have different taste when it comes to packaging so idk why anyone would be mad that someone doesn't like the aesthetic/feel of packaging. The rest of your critiques were also clearly based on what you subjectively look for in a product, you need higher coverage concealer which this one wasn't, you prefer a more precise liner which this one isn't, that one lip product sat weirdly and was strongly fragranced. These all seem like run of the mill concerns that people have with products so idk why people are getting butthurt about them? You were direct but professional, which is (imo) the best way to deliver critiques.

Prestige pricing with cheap feeling packaging is such a no. @@humanormachine2936 Personally, I'm glad they didn't since there's no one size fits all approach to disability-friendly packaging, and if they designed and marketed it as such it would just alienate people with disabilities who didn't find it to be compatible with their needs. It can be demoralizing to use something allegedly made with you in mind that doesn't help you after all. People with Parkinson's have different needs than those with MS who have different needs than those with arthritis, et al. (It's my personal taste) I'm a designer and I think their packaging goes pretty well with the identity they are representing, it's a vintage feel and I'd appreciate a decent typeface like that. tbh the only thing that throws this off for me is their logo (i know lol), I'd love this design more if Rare Beauty is in a different typeface that actually goes with its nolstalgia.
