After working in a call center for four years I'm very much over trying to make everyone happy and caring about what people think of me. I used to be a massive people pleaser and I used to care SO MUCH what people thought. I am going to start a KZbin channel hopefully in the next couple months and I'm now confident I'll have the same attitude Alexandra has. I think most people learn to not care. For those who get hurt it's so upsetting. Like you, I hate that everyone feels they deserve input into everything. They don't. As for me I don't live that way. We are all given the choice on what we focus on...if we believe we have no say and stay stuck in the blame-shame game then it's a fail before it even begins. Colors come and go in home design just like in fashion, but as my favorite Home Economics teacher used to say, “ Fashion is trendy, but style is timeless.” This room will never go out of style. Great neutral pallet and great use of texture and contrast. It is very relaxing and inviting and yes, Zen. Bedrooms are supposed to be a place to de stress, unwind, relax and sleep. A neutral pallet allows the eyes to rest. I’d say you hit it out of the park. Sister/ client is happy! That’s what counts in the end. Good job!

People were right, though. The last makeover upgraded the room in terms of aesthetic (although that wasn't my favorite), but downgraded the room in terms of functionality. Her sister didn't keep the ladder, clothes rod or turned over basket. She instead got another dresser, a bedside table, a vanity and brought her bookshelf back in.

I went through this evolution of design and professionalism with my sister. I loved what she did with her rooms as a teenager and asked for her 'help' with my room. Now she can stay in my aesthetic and functionality, and she finally managed to teach me some skills. Working with siblings is never the easiest, but I am very grateful, she was still willing to after some very harsh criticism on my part.

I love color too but can appreciate that not everyone does. This makeover looks fantastic!! The textures and subtle neutrals and fun accessories such as the lamps make this space super welcoming. Like a great bed and breakfast but the art feels more personal than that.

I was glumly thinking 'all white, it's going to look cold and uninviting, like the inside of a fridge.' However, you proved me wrong. I love the textures you put in (those pillows on the bed are epic!), the chair, the blanket, the stool. The neutral colors of the night tables (and you left enough room for alarm clock, phone charger, late night book, etc) really work. Bravo!
