I was on 37.5mg for two months. TWO. Tapered down because of side effects and for the past month I’ve been hit with constant nausea all day every day. If anyone reading this is researching Effexor, DO NOT TAKE IT. THESE ARE THE WORST WITHDRAWALS I HAVE EVER HAD.

Just came off of Effexor/Venaflaxine last month after 5 years of use… I had to slowly taper myself over about 5-6 weeks. Here’s how I did it. 1. Reduced to 75% of prescribed dose for 2 weeks. 2. Reduced to 50% of prescribed dose for 2 weeks. 3. Reduced to 25% of prescribed dose for 1 week. 3. Reduced to about 12.5% for about a week. 4. Complete off So far I have very minimal side effects… Mainly just wanting to cry on sad movies and songs, and in the evening when I’m alone in bed on my phone. I’ve had more energy and motivation and can feel a veil lifting from my life. It’s super encouraging because I thought it would be hell getting off… so far, it’s working out.

I've been on EffexorXR/Venlafaxine 75mg 1x/day since 2008. I decided I'm ready to taper off the meds. I don't regret it, but I am currently going through the withdrawal symptoms. The tapering option I did was just going from 75mg to a 37.5mg pill. I did that for 30 days and decided not to refill the Rx. So, now it's been about 4 days completely off. I still have withdrawal symptoms. Throughout the tapering and now, I had mild nausea (relieved by having a full stomach of food), brain zaps, insomnia (not sure if caused by the withdrawal), and the worst EMOTIONALNESS I've ever experienced. I am a hardened person who almost never cries, but I've been on the verge of tears or crying many days during this withdrawal. I'm SO relieved to hear that this is a withdrawal symptom that others experienced because I'm feeling nutty. I hope it dissipates soon! Thank you for sharing.

I tappered off Effexor 75 Mg by taking one pill and then no pill and again another for a couple of weeks. Then none and the first 3-6 days were weird and odd but it didn't return my emotions after stopping it or my libido after a month off them. And instead my psych put me on Brintellix 5mg for some reason to "fix" the numbness and lack of sex drive, ED. First few days there was a change and now it's just back to numbness and ED on the second week. So I'm thinking of tapering again and to deal with it without the nasty antidepressants

Psychiatrists, doctors, GP's, they all fail miserably when it comes to education about antidepressants. I've had psychiatrists, doctors etc tell me that "brain zaps are nothing to do with venlafaxine", and laugh! even though we all know brain zaps are so common. Last time I spoke to a psychiatrist I expressed how horrible venlafaxine was, that it doesn't work for me anymore etc and she offered to double my dose 🥴🥴🥴 Im going to do the bead method, slowly reduce until I'm way down and then slowly slowly come off over time.

I’ve heard to wean down by 10mg every 2 weeks. Unfortunately that means counting beads. No easy way to do it. I’ve done 3 weans off of 150mg Effexor. I will hold at a dose it becomes too hard. Doctors don’t understand. No gentle safe way to withdraw. Wish I’d known.

Currently weening myself off Effexor. I’ve been on 225mg a day for over a decade 😜 and I’ve come to the point in my life where I really feel like I want to try and not depend on this drug anymore. I’ve tapered down to 150mg for 2 weeks now and so far so good. Only had a few days of headaches and was lethargic for a bit. Today is my first day after going down to 75mg. Feeling only a touch off today and I had a bit of that weird sleep you get last night, with vivid dreams. We will see how this goes, but I think the slowly weaning off and giving myself at least 2 weeks at the new dose is working well. I’m also doing acupuncture once a week which I find really helps with withdrawal and I’m making sure that the stress in my life is relatively low right now. Good luck to everyone else who’s currently going off their antidepressants. Remember to do it slowly and to be kind to yourself ❤️

Michelle, Sooner or later anti-depressants have major side effects. It is quite easy to stop AD. Get rid of the root cause in the mind. 60,000 crazy thoughts. I transformed my life some years back. After 10 days of the simple meditation explained below slowly reduce dosage to the minimum and taper of after 25 days of daily meditation. Take only if needed. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing anxiety-stress. For a relaxed life without anxiety-stress sit on a chair, back erect, hands on lap with palms upwards, eyes closed, be still and observe your incoming--outgoing breath, body sensations, any soft buzzing sound in the head for around 10-15 minutes. Be as still as possible. Plenty of thoughts will come which is ok--slowly negative thoughts will reduce and your mind will relax with no desire for pills. Mind is reprogrammed. Avoid watching negative TV shows and over- reacting. Do the above meditation without expectations and your life will change for the better. Best wishes. Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor-Teacher.

@@dennismaple3676 I'd personally think about getting a second opinion from another doctor. Going from 75mg to 0mg seems CRAZY. Legit INSANE to me. I've been tapering off of 75mg for 3 months now, and just a couple days ago made it to 0mg every day. My taper was 75mg-50mg every other day for 2 weeks, then 50mg every day for 2 weeks, then 50-25 for 2 weeks, etc. And even with that slow taper, the first 2 days of a lower dose were AWFUL. And the past 2 days have been awful too, but I'm on day 3 and it's finally lifting. Brain zaps, dizziness, feeling dark, etc., etc.,. Please consider finding a doctor that will help you wean off much more slowly. Remember that each step down means your body has to adjust to less serotonin and norepinephrine...which means it has to kick into gear to start producing more again. No small feat for those of us who went on the medication because those things were low in the first place.

how is it now? i started 2012 (150mg), from 2019 until now 75mg and I want to taper off. How did you do it exactly in the 2 months? I think 1 week -12,5mg is pretty fast (6 weeks) and i think i will have a lot of sideeffects as i had the times i tried to taper off in the past (many years ago).. it was H E L L : brainzaps, emotional breakdowns, anxiousnes.... I hate this F***** shit so hard... I started taking them nearly 12 yrs ago because of EXTREME panic attacks and depression and kind of emotional dysregulation (well I was having a lot of trouble on EVERY field of life...) and it stopped my panic attacks and anxiousnes a lot but not really for a long time (first 4-6 months were ok) ... How to get off Venlafaxine properly? My doctor prescribed Bupropion, but I am sceptical... (I have been diagnosed with ADHD last year...)

I'd recommend people to look into trauma (Patrick Teahan has a great channel) and toxic relationships, at the same time I would start exercising heavily, stop stressing, taking cold showers, eating well, sleeping more. If you have nothing productive to say I would keep my mouth shut. You may in fact influence someone to end their life, and I think you should think about that.

@@alexandrastott Reduce negative thoughts. Its quite simple. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, hands on lap with palms upwards, eyes closed, be still and observe your natural incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 10-15 minutes or more. Let thoughts come. Slowly negative thoughts will reduce and relax the mind. Whenever you are free during the day or night before sleep sit or lie down still for a few minutes and observe your breath. @@HipHopLuv123 You must be aware that ADS cannot be stopped abruptly but reduced from a high mg gradually to the lowest mg, then take alternate days, then once in 3 days and then stop after guidance. The brain takes time to adjust to the reduced dosage. To reduce side effects and to feel better reduce negative thoughts and overthinking. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind] and gives good relief from stress-anxiety. To relax sit on a chair or lie down, neck straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. With daily practice the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Observe your breath sensations when taking a walk, before sleep, in college, at work, when reading, etc. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a better life. Reduce negative social media, take morning sunlight walks and avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Best wishes--Counsellor.

Sorry for the delay in my response! I was experiencing and feeling something similar to what you've explained. I hated how it felt when I forget to take my pills (the withdrawal brain zaps and dizziness), I didn't like the thought of having to be on medications forever AND my doctor also told me to go on a higher dose! If you're wanting to taper off, your doctor should 100% respect that decision and should provide you with some guidance. I am so much happier being off the medications and I no longer feel any withdrawal, so I'm happy I made the decision to come off of them. If you do decide to taper off, inform the people around you so they can keep an eye one you & make sure to taper slowly. I made a whole separate video regarding the withdrawal I felt once I stopped the meds, you can refer to that so you know what to expect (of course it will be different for everyone). I hope you end up feeling much better, like I have :)

Hi Halle, I am in the same situation right now, been taking 75mg for 4 years. Have you tapered off? If yes how was your experience? :)

@@nihilarian9969 it honestly had its rough patches but im currently medication free. I listened to my body and i didnt get withdrawls as bad as i thought i would. Taking it slowly, of course there were brainzaps the first few days of a lower dose but it got better within a few days. Every body is different but im more than happy that i decided to get off the medication. I have more energy, i sleep so much better, ive seen such of an improvement with my overall mood and drive to do things. :) i wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide! Make sure you have a support system :)

@@Elyssa16 Reduce dosage to the lowest mg and inform your physician how you feel. To prevent side effects do the following with determination and patience==Reduce negative thoughts. Being still reduces negative thoughts. Feel the stillness flow within you. Make it a daily habit for a lifetime. Do the above meditation daily to have a good life. Best wishes and prayers. I have lost almost 10 lbs in 3 weeks! I’m still having brain zaps though. I just finished coming off of 300mg. Waking up to cold sweats and BMs 2 or 3 or more times. Finally losing weight too! I’m in MA school and I’m always shaken and can hardly speak clearing while talking to my instructor and doing my skill offs 😅 doing venipunctures this MOD! Oh man it was really bad when I was taking 225mg and I ran out! I had to wait about 3 weeks for it to come through the mail and I was having a breakdown at school! It’s almost like having a really bad hangover and I could not stop crying so they gave me another 75mg and that a total of 300 mg. I can’t even do my homework bc I’m always emotional and erratic taking 300mg!

how is it now? i started 2012 (150mg), from 2019 until now 75mg and I want to taper off.

Everybody's body is different. Doctor may recommend one thing but only you know how you feel so if you feel like youve dropped dose too soon keep the dose up until you feel ready. Hope you're doing well

Its Bella Babe, To reduce side effects do the simple breath observing practice I mentioned in my msg sent to you. Since many years I have made it a habit to observe my breath for a few minutes even when walking alone, reading. before sleep etc and feeling relaxed. It is very simple but a strong desire to transform from within is needed. Read more about positive effects of breathing on the brain on google. Develop your mental muscles to handle life challenges. Best wishes. Shyaaam Sir-Counsellor.
