I'm 21 and I've been on it for over three years and I'm very slowly tapering off Prozac. I was on 30mg for anxiety and panic disorder. I'm down to 10mg. I'm nearly there and I never thought I could do it and I'm so proud of myself. Shout out to all of the other people going through this. YOU. ARE. SO. STRONG. If I can do this and quit this drug, (and I'm a real special case of screwed up), then I know, I know without any doubt that you can too, and that anyone can get through stopping antidepressants too. I believe in you.

I know this is years later, but I feel compelled to comment, though I haven't commented on a video in many years. I just wanted to thank you. I'm going on nearly a month being off antidepressants after being on them for 6 years and the things you said and described are exactly what I've been feeling. It made me feel less alone and more hopeful that this is all part of the process and things will get better. Thank you for sharing your story. I really needed to hear it today.

Im literally crying watching this! I am currently trying to come off my antidepressants! All of your side effects coming off them is what I am feeling! I feel more tired than I usually do and thats very tired! Everything is annoying me! I have such short temper and my thoughts are all blurred! I am at the point where I don't know whether to go back on them or not! I don't know if this is worth it! I looked up videos on this to see what other people have gone threw and I am so glad I did because I wanted to know if what I am feeling is normal! xx

I'm also tappering off my SSRI after many years of being on them. I so relate to your side effects! I'm mostly achy and tired. Insomnia, restlessness, and irritability are definitely there! I'm 3 months into this journey but I'm going to keep moving forward. From all the stories I hear, time is the greatest healing factor.

I'm having such weird side effects, and it's so good to know that it's not just me experiencing this. This is so wonderful and I'm very happy for you! I can tell you that not everyone feels okay when they go off of them. I was on and off of SSRIs since I was about 12 and I am now 31. I've been off consistently for about 14 months now and I feel like my brain is under water. In other words, SSRIs have probably had some kind of permanent effect on my brain's functioning. For anyone reading this, whatever you do, only use SSRIs as a VERY last resort. If I could turn back the clock, I would have never taken them. Anyway, beautiful video.

I'm on day 19 off anti-depressants and Ambien. What a roller-coaster life's been this past weeks... I've been on anti-depressants for 3 & half years. Started with Zoloft, switched to Wellbutrin, ended on Venlafaxine. I was taking 225 mg (75 mg in the morning, 150 mg at night) and one or two Ambien to get me to fall asleep. Now, to give you context: 4 weeks from now, I'll be moving all by myself to another continent. I'm taking my cats and shoving my life's belongings in 2 suitcases and starting from scratch. It's an understatement to say it's been stressful... Aside from all paperwork for my visa, I'm having to renew all my documents, to make sure they don't expire anytime soon, I'm going to the dentist, ophthalmologist and the physician 4,5 times a week, so that I have everything covered health-wise. I'm then going with all my papers to notary offices to have them translated. All this while holding 2 jobs and fostering a puppy that's 5 weeks old and needs to be fed every 4 hours. 3 weeks ago, I forgot to take my meds. The next day, I forgot to take them again. The next day, as well. I had been sleeping in 2 hour increments whenever I could, and always on the run from point A to point B, so it wasn't that surprising that I was forgetful. Come day 4, I just decided rather that taking my meds as usual, I'd quit them cold turkey. I knew it was either gonna be the best time to quit, or the worst time. Being that I'm so overwhelmed by my schedule on an hourly basis, I don't have the time to ruminate in my own thoughts. I don't have the luxury of taking 30 mins off and feel sorry for myself. Thankfully, it seems it was great timing, from a mental standpoint. The physical side-effects however, were (and some still are) pretty intense. Dizziness, numbness in my fingers, shaking, constipation, flashing lights in my peripheral view, a bit of vomiting, a lot of feeling exhausted but that's about it. I've never had more mental clarity. I still get sad and happy and all the emotions in between, but I can process all of these in a healthy way. I'm fine with my sad days, I'm fine even with crying myself to sleep thinking of the life I'm leaving behind. I just don't let these sad thoughts turn into anxiety and all around negativity. It's been one of the hardest and most empowering experiences of my life and I'm grateful to be here. Cheers!

I have awoken so far beyond antidepressants that I discovered an entirely new category of awakening. I have become so conscious if the nature of love, that I have discovered an entirely new kind of love: Alien Love. This is nothing that any human has ever imagined or spoken of. The happiest day of my life is when I awoke to infinite alien love. It's the most beautiful thing I have ever experienced. My comprehension of love has become so profound that I have become Alien Love. I can show humanity how to become Alien Love. That is now the purpose of my life's work.

I’m trying to post on a few videos I researched a while back when going off Cipralex (SSRI like Lexro). I found you would get some information and then nobody would do a follow up, very frustrating!!! After 3 previous failed attempts, including trying cold turkey the first time (don’t do it, really bad idea), I finally made it on the fourth one and am NEVER going back! I was on 20mg for over 10 years. I started by going from 20mg down to 10mg with very little trouble, don’t recall much if any side effects. Stayed on 10mg for about 3 - 4 weeks, then decided to cut that in half again to 5mg by alternating between 10 and 5 for about a week, then sticking with 5mg for about 4 more weeks. This was definitely more of a problem, started getting the brain zaps and the feeling of walking on a ship in rough seas even if standing still or laying down, it wouldn’t go away. My focus and concentration were terrible, driving me crazy! This was when I was researching the topic. Finally it started to fade, so it was time for the big leap, going to zero! I did a few days of alternating between 5mg and 0mg with the side effects intensifying again, so after a few days I stayed off them completely figuring I may as well just tough it out. The first 4 to 5 days not taking anything were awful! I’ve made it to this point before and “quit” going back on the meds, this time I was determined to make it! All the same symptoms at 5mg were back in full swing along with some nausea and serious headaches, it really sucked! It was day 5 or 6 where I started to see a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel, where I would have hours of feeling “normal” in the day, which kept increasing each day. I would say by day 10 or 11 I was 90-95% through it. I’m now almost 4 weeks since my last 5mg dose and doing great! Every now and then I still think I’m getting a mini zap or just a little wobbly head, but then it’s gone again. As a 48 year old man, I can say it definitely opens up your emotions, which takes some getting use to. I’ve also found my fuse is a little short which I’m monitoring and working on. Depression really kicked in a couple times during the process, but now that I’m through the other side it doesn’t seem to be an issue. I’m so glad I finally stuck it out and think it was absolutely worth it for me. This is just my experience, please be careful and go at your own pace if you choose to do this. Telling someone what you are up to is a good idea so they can help monitor your progress.

Thank your for telling the truth that Anti-Depressants can be very addictive. I am happy that you are well now:). Although, I am not a Doctor, I think that there should be Medical Tests to diagnosis Depression. In other words, there should be Medical Test on the Brain for Serotonin and Dopamine deficiencies. Dr. Amen, on American Public T.V. does Scans on the Brain. I pray that one day there will be Medical Tests to measure Serotonin and Dopamine in the Brain to diagnosis Physical Depression.

Its tough coming off them, I get digestive problems when \I start coming off so bad that I have to get back on them, been on seroxat (paxil) for 22yrs recently went down to 4.4mg (2.2ml) and my duodenum or peptic ulcer area hurts, Im also taking losec (prilosec) for GERD/Hiatal hernia (Chronic acid reflux) and started to reduce that med as well, what happens is that as I reduce one it affects the other, reducing the SSRI affects the digestive system as you get more pissed over small things and can easily get into a rage which causes more acid to be secreted in the stomach/duodenal area causing inflammation which if the stress continues opens up a crater (peptic ulcer - that never actually goes away) the reduction in losec causes my stomach to wake up and start producing acid, you see the picture here Im screwed from both directions. So I decided to up my Seroxat dose to 5mg (2.5ml) to stabilse my brain and be calm so this will calm and stabilise my acid levels and stop the damage to my stomach/duodenum. Also when coming off Seroxat my brain tends to want to substitute the 'high' and it craves a hit and I am more prone to drink sugary teas or milky coffees, or even having sex, eating chocolates and things that 'lift' you up but these are very bad if you have GERD or acid reflux/stomach problems, all those foods/drinks weaken the LES sphincter muscle at the opening of the stomach and so gives you more reflux and its a worsening cycle of events. You take away a drug, but then your brain needs something to replace it and those substitutes can also and in my case definately do more harm

I’m rlly scared and I’ve had so many panic attacks and I’m scared to go out just incase I have a panic attack . I just want this to be over or more just to go back on the meds . I’m trying to fight against my mum and dad but it’s not working . I’m not strong enough for this and I’m literally crying right now . I can’t cope I’m only 13 . What do I do ? How do I convince my mum and dad that I need to go back on a higher dose and stop trying to get off them ? Someone help

I’m doing the same thing I’ve been taking 60mg of Cymbalta for five years I’ve been tapering off for 6 months the last little bit is the hardest but what I found has helped so much is cbd oil I take 1 ml split up into twice a day .33 at 11am and .66 around 4pm then I go for a run around 5 and I feel great. If anyone is having a hard time try cbd seriously it will be so much easier

Its great that you are doing good, however i am struggling from GAD and depression my doctor put me on SSRI "Zoloft", My question is, Did you actually get cured after finishing your Cource of mediation?. I have this feeling that i will never be ok, or/and the medication can mess up my brain and never become normal again, please share with me how life have become after getting off your medication. and is it worth the journey? Thank you

@TheKingBeth 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Hesham. 3 years later, I'm on a different SSRI now. The Citalopram I was on definitely helped but unfortunately I had to start taking Sertraline (Zoloft) a couple of years ago, which I'm still on. I'm not sure what to advise you, because I have very mixed feelings and mixed experiences. It depends on the person, but drugs definitely CAN help. I also worry about them messing my brain up etc etc but I think it's more important for me to take the drugs now which potentially save my life, then if in the future I have to worry about long lasting side effects, I'll work on that then. But my priority right now is getting better, so I take the pills. Hope that makes sense and good luck on your journey x

Uninformed? Antidepressants have never been shown to be efficacious in studies long term? There are millions of antidepressants written, yet poor mental health has skyrocketed. Your great aunt may have benefited for a few years, but after so much time, you’re left with side effects and withdrawal effects I don’t wish upon anyone.

@@blakejohnson8639 contrary to popular belief anti depressants aren't meant to be permanent. They're used in conjunction with therapy or other methods to improve your mental health. The effects aren't forever and you shouldn't take them forever. There are people who use them for months then taper off them in order to control other mental disorders. There are ways to improve your mental health but there is a point where people become so dysfunctional that they can't go through that process, that's why an AD is useful because it nullifies emotions long enough in order for somebody to create health habits. In my own personal experience I used Wellbutrin to replace my weed addiction and it worked wonders in doing so. Being numb sucks but it isn't forever and people need to go into AD's knowing that. also it takes 1 minute of research to see that studies do show that AD's do work. So yes, uninformed.

When you come off too fast there are two phases of withdrawal. The acute, right after coming off... then another kicking in several months later. I"m 19 months off and it's still quite bad. There are places to go for support as many are suffering.

Make you you go out everyday and have a nice walk. If you have a hobby work on that. I know when you're depressed doing any kind of activity seems impossible. It might be hard, but it it isn't impossible. I can only do the walking part , but I'm slowly starting to read books again and play some guitar. These kinds of things will help you. Hope it's better for you now and you didn't return to those shitty pills again.
