In my opinion, this is the better of the two Liszt called concertos. Alexandre plays it beautifully, as he does everything he performs.

"The Liszt called concertos" , as Mr. Smith sneeringly describes redoubtable works by a genius. Mr. Smith's opinion is firmly voiced, just like that of a mewling, irrelevant, soon-to-be-forgotten hack. Enjoy your self-righteousness Mr. Smith, as you are placed into your quickly forgotten grave.

one of the most finished and electrifying interpretations of the work, comparable to the great reference versions of RIchter and Berman. Kantorov is the most sophisticated and representative piano soloist of the great tradition of interpretation of the 20th century.

i very rarely cry to classical music ... but at 13:03 ... the pianist played this passage normally faster than most pianists do ... and it was like a rush of emotion for me ... and i cried. not all pianists can play at lighting speed rates like martha agerich, yuja wang, and apparently THIS GUY! playing it faster ultimate changes the emotion of the passage. I have heard pianists play this particular passage at excrutiatingly slow paces ... even slowing down the hit of the one note per every octave at the end ... Ritardando ... ultimately losing the effect of the building ... slithering up and down notes ... gaining momentum ... adding more notes to be covered by the right hand in the same time interval ... playing it so SLOWLY ... adding no triumphant build-up ... to launch into the next orchestral march phase ... alexandre hit the nail on the head with this passage playing it as fast as he could ... like it was a piece of cake! it blended all the notes and chords together in a BURST OF EMOTION ... in a way that playing it slow could never achieve

I wonder why the pianist comes on stage and isn't shaved, and dressed only in a shirt while the orchestra is in full tux and white bowtie? Most Nordic orchestras play at a clumsy amateur level but this orchestra is not bad today. Although the pianist played fabulously, the synergy is not there between the performer and the orchestra.

This is how he always dresses for performances. He does look rather grungy today, needing a shave and a haircut. But he plays magnificently.
