When I worked at Wendy's, the fountain drink machine was behind the counter right by the register. Even so, 4 out of 5 people asked for a "[medium] drink", I always had to ask "what kind of drink". They were mentally not prepared for it- and were incapable of seeing it even though it was right by their shoulder. Instead, they were expecting to get an empty cup and fill their own drink from a fountain machine somewhere else. It's just like this video- when you're not prepared to see it, you cannot.

I think the one reason this awareness test works is because of the two teams. Because we are observing the white team the black team just meshes into the background. When we see another black object moving, they also mesh into the background, because we just observe them as another member of the black team. Still a really interesting test.

I use this as part of my art lessons to teach students about seeing and observing. In art the first obstacle for all students is confidence this builds their awareness when looking at objects. To look closer in which I ask are you just seeing (counting the passes) or are you observing (seeing the dancing bear). It is very an excellent introduction

Along those same lines perhaps is how the simplicity of the Bible is entirely missed because people PRESUME the words can be understood literally simply as a historical account. When all of one's attention is toward THAT, given the impossible nature of THAT, people are forced to either dismiss it all as BS OR to abandon their own effort, instead adopting the doctrines of MEN...which I truly think is why there are so many denominations, churches, sects, opposing doctrines ALL based on the same "Book"....but finally (I HOPE) by the mercy of God I suddenly one day realized the simplicity of Scripture! That it is "Spiritual" rather than "carnal"...that is that it is written via SPIRIT to be understood allegorically rather than literally... there is no point really in trying to "prove" the words literally , because the only way anyone can begin to do THAT is by injecting their OWN suppositions...their OWN presumptions, which I believe explains why understanding is all over the board without any general consensus ...that is outside of congregations/groups of folks who have decided to commit themselves to a body literally understood doctrine AS IF fact. Like the video shown here people ONLY look have a heart to focus looking for ONE thing in the WORDS while refusing to consider the admonitions all through Scripture (I believe) that it is something else entirely .1Corinthians 2:14 KJV] 14 "...But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are SPIRITUALLY discerned..." Shame, these Selective Attention Tests dont work when you've watched a few of them and realise something will happen, I cant help but wait for something different to enter the frame now, therefore it no longer works on me and I notice everything. When i saw the guys passing the balls i saw the guy in the bear suit pretty fast, if i was there, i would of still noticed but it will be hard for me to be aware of those other ball(s) that if it will pass to me or not, you know, cause i will be distracted by the other ball that i try to focus on and/or seeing the guy in the bear suit or seeing him in my peripheral vision!
