The thing is we need to change the first past the post election system we have. In my ideal world ALL political parties would pull together and put forward the one candidate that could beat the Tories on the understanding that they push a change to the electoral system through their Government as soon as they take power. We could then get rid of the House of Lords as they can and do block laws that have a huge amount of approval from ordinary citizens. For example the Trophy Hunting import bill that was filibustered by a small number of hereditary peers.

No. They would rather have a government that was truly on the side of the millions, rather than the millionaires. They would rather have a government that had integrity and principle. They would rather have a government that put people before profit. Unfortunately, such laudible aims were anathema to the people who really run this country, and their allies across the pond and elsewhere. Not to mention base and craven traitors in Corbyn's own camp. This is why we have a government as corrupt, venal and pointless as the one we have now, and a so-called opposition that agrees absolutely with them, from the genocide in Gaza, to the persecution of refugees, to the destruction of what remains of our democracy, to the utter dereliction of our towns and cities. Everyone hates Starmer. But depending on where you live you may have to hold your nose and vote for Starmer's Labour (ie if you live in a seat where the Green, SNP, CP, candidate doesn't have a realistic chance of winning), thanks to UK's anachronistic FPP electoral system. Except of course if you live a seat where the LD candidate is next placed to the Tory candidate, then hold your nose and vote LD. --The sooner UK gets real about democracy and introduces Proportional Representation, the better. But for now, it's FPP and unless you live in the right place Starmer's Labour is the only way to defeat the Tories (and their fash-leaning replacement).

Such a Shame John Died, he would have been brilliant I have no doubt, Jeremy was the last Socialist Leader we have had, and he should be back, as to his defeat, that was the Swing Vote with Brexit muddying the water, every Socialist I Know voted, and real Socialists always vote, it’s the floaters who you have to sway, many Tory’s always vote Tory, but I have spoken with many even local party members who have resigned because they’re conservatives not Fascists, and cannot countenance the direction of their front bench If you don’t want Starmer, and unlike me you are still a member of the Labour Party, then organises and agitate to remove him, he’s leading you nowhere and is only interested in power and more influence for himself, join with the true Socialist majority and rout him and any of his front bench supporters, do it Now, before the Election and don’t give him a chance of a comeback, find some sanity and let’s have a Party for the Ordinary people like we used to be, I resigned my membership because of Tony Blair involving us in the second Gulf War, which did untold harm to us and millions more, and I lost friends in that US Sponsored Oil Grab, but Tony wanted his Falklands Moment ! So helped fabricate the WMD Fantasy, I was also a T & G member, but I wouldn’t associate myself with Unite, the modernised and Rebranded Tory Friendly version, that’s had the temerity to invite Starmer to speak at their conference and dictated to the delegates they mustn’t raise any protest, if I were a member right now, I would resign, but not until after I had turned up to Jeer the awful Man Julie

Gordon Brown was tipped to have bern John Smith's successor. If he had been Prime Minister he would have bern better than Blair and better than he was when he eventually took over in 2007 and had to spend a lot of time clearing up the mess Blair left for him as well as deal with a global recession. In Cardiff the Lib Dems won more seats than any other party in the local elections in 2004 so they formed a coalition with Plaid Cymru but they had to spend the first few years clearing up the mess left by Russell Goodway the Labour Council leader who had been a dictator. So much money was wasted on public relations by him so much of the infrastructure had been neglected. There were banners everywhere with 'Cardiff. Europe's youngest capital' on it which was a blatant lie. Also a newsletter delivered to every home about what the council was doing but glossing over what they were not doing. The green bag scheme had been decimated so the Lib Dems and Plaid Cymrunhad to bring it back but with different rules. The pedestrianised streets in the city centre had to be repaired. There was a lot of demolition and construction going on as planning permission had been given all over the city for redevelopment. A new indoor shopping mall was built full of empty shops as they couldn't find enough tenants.
