I took up golf at age 38 for business purposes. I was hooked immediately. I continue to play weekly at age 72. My Dad was an avid golfer, club member and a 12 handicap. He tried like hell to get me interested but I had no interest. He told me one day I would want to play and he was right. He left me and my brother some high end blades and real woods. Sadly though I never got to play with him as he passed when I was 28. A big regret for me was not playing much earlier in life and I could have played with Dad. He would have liked that.

My pop never played. He was all about baseball. Said he saw no sense in hitting a ball and then walking after it. I never played until I was about 18 years old, thought it was a sissy game. My brother in law talked me into trying it, and I got good enough to shoot even par once for 9 holes. Was one under, missed a 4 foot par putt on #7 after blasting out of sand.

More of this! I'm the same age and handicap as your Dad. Suffering the same issues with the driver. We are all still trying to get a 300 yard drive with a sub 90 mph swing speed. Our minds writing checks that our bodies can't cash.

Alex, I know you siad you have lost your 'mojo' and love for the game, but I am not sure that can be right. Your content has really gone up in quality and you seem to have a new depth and patience to your teaching style thats excellent. Our relationships with everything change over time, maybe you have just gone to a differnt, deeper, level with golf? Wont feel the smae but might actually be more sustainable and satisfying. Make the most of it whatever your age. When I was 65 I could hit similar drives and had a handicap of 8. I’m almost 87 now and probably drive it about 200. My handicap now is 19 (off the forward tees). Age is the biggest handicap you will ever have.

The key is to workout in the gym every day like the athletes. Driving distance is more about body strength

The title is an out and out lie. There is no way, on God's green earth, that he hits drives in the same range group as top pros. To give an example, Darren Clarke, a previous Open Champion, is 55 and his average now is 256 yards. His longest last season was 285 yards. So Mr. Elliott Snr. hits the ball better than Darren Clarke... yeah, right.

I don't really want to be the devil's advocate here but we can watch hundreds of videos from all these so called pros and still suck at golf, watch the pros on TV, they hit bad shots right and left,there is no quick fix. Get yourself a dozen or two foam practice balls from Walmart and work it out, every body's swing is different just work it out
