That song is actually about the lead singer Chad Gray, who grew up abused by his Step-dad. He said his mom is still married to him still. There`s a line in the song that says "You just can`t stand the touch. Affection weighs too much" He`s said because of all the abuse he endured he can`t stand to be touched They have another song called "Love Fall" that`s amazing

Like so many of the other commenters, I lived through this as well. The line "just be still and breathe" was the easiest way to deal with it all. Growing up, I believed that EVERY kid dealt with these same issues. When I found out that not everyone went through this I couldn't wait until I turned 18 so I could gtfo. I remember I told my dad that and he opened the door and said I could leave now if I thought that. Pretty sure my sprinting out the door and down the street would have made Usain Bolt proud (btw, I was around 14 at the time). I stayed gone for 3 days and no one knew where I was. Nobody knew where I was, I didn't go to any of my friends or family's houses, I just disappeared. The only reason I returned was to get some clothes and a few other things. My dad showed up while I was still there, but nothing was ever said about that day. I stayed home, waiting to see how things were gonna turn out. Happy to say, he never hit me again. So yeah, this song resonates with me in a big way. I'm now in my 50s and me and my father don't really talk much. (Edit: for me it was more than just the physical abuse. There was also verbal and emotional abuse.)
@jamesjohnston19353 жыл бұрын
I didn't have it quite as bad as you did. I was removed from the home at 13, 7 days after my father beat me with a 2x4 in the shape of a boat oar. I can honestly say that I was one of the lucky ones. My first stint in foster care I was able to start therapy, as did my father. Unfortunately I had so much pent up rage that less than a year after being returned to the home, I had to be legally abandoned so that I could get the help I needed and to protect my siblings. After all that, I did get the help I needed and by the time my father passed away we were able to repair our relationship. Because of all this I cant help but cry whenever I hear this song.
