As a forensic psychologist in study, I can say those conversational skills where you put emotions in check are an absolute must. He clearly demonstrates emotional discipline by not reacting the way the questioner is hoping for. This shows intellectual competence. He immediately sees and understands the questioners intent of garnering a certain type of reaction. However, the questioners underestimate Petersons advanced intellect in understanding (without prejudice, because he understands the human nature of the questioners intentions along with their ignorance behind it) why the questioner is biased to begin with. Because Peterson can see how one's ignorance leads to them being inept, he does not react, because to him, it's like reacting to a mentally challenged person...it's not fair nor morally right. Instead, he calmly responds in a non-threatening manner with the hopes that the individual will critically think through his comment, statement, or answer...which often times doesn't happen due too their lack of emotional discipline.

To some people, admitting they were wrong is akin to a death sentence. Some are proud (and can do no wrong), others fear repercussion from their social group. Peterson on the other hand would be the first to admit he was wrong and that deserves respect: To not cling to ones position and to go essentially into each and every conversation not to prove the other wrong but to try and distill the actual truth is such a commendable act, yet one you can't actually expect from many or even most people, as looking beyond proving yourself right is often a difficult endeavour while seeing the other person as a threat is that much easier (especially when they behave antagonisticly towards you).

my only qualm with this is i think the system is too flawed currently and almost needs to be broken and reset. in my mind, we need to overreach a bit and set up a jolt of equal outcome, and then let things equilibrate to equal opportunity. i think with the way things are currently set up, it will be impossible to get to equal opportunity from here for so many reasons
@bryanwoods33732 жыл бұрын
@@gregkrazanski Disagree. That would create a situation of "if it works, it's not stupid". Groups will double-down on it like they have affirmative action. A lot of the system is broken, but it's not going to bet fixed by making it bigoted in the other direction. Things like assigning numbers instead of names to tests and resumes works since it eliminates immediate biases. Quotas just give unfair advantages as has been demonstrated in various studies. Certain community imbalances can be fixed by statewide systems that funnel resources into disadvantaged areas. Perhaps a school is making unnecessary purchases to justify their budget. So, they can use some of that bloat to buy extra text books that they donate to other districts. Probably get some write-offs or something.

Being hateful for hateful sake, and preventing, or closing off of an opportunity to a specific person, or people. Ending those things would maxiumize equality of opportunity. But you can not forcibly end ignorance. Forcing a racist to higher some one from a race he/she doesn't like isn't going to erase that persons racism. Neither will putting sanctions, or fines on said person. Or closing the business. He/She should be left alone. Or if anything make the knowledge of his/her ignorance known publicly. That way equality of opportunity will work it's coarse. Good competant people will cease seaking employment there, or ask for services from said business. The business will eventually die. Part of the reason for his "precision" is the conflict he had with his "internal monologue" constantly questioning everything he said. Telling him "you don't believe that, not really. That's a lie ..." He describes how he didn't know if he was the person articulating thoughts in words or the voice criticizing his thoughts. He tried to not say anything that the voice disagreed with. This is an obvious summary and not nearly as nuanced as his description of events as he recalls and narrates them.

Jordan Peterson is an incredibly powerful individual in terms of conversational ability. His deep care for people and heavy psychological knowledge and study have made him an incredible listener and as a respectful man he gives the other person ample opportunity to frame their point. But when it’s his turn, he turns up with a great big barrel of facts, he lays them out on an orderly fashion and phrases his points so eloquently whilst managing not to appear conceited or holier than thou. Ones gets the impression that his attempt to educate the other person comes from a place of genuine care, love and respect, and a desire to see that person benefit. You mention that something JP said sounded like how a father would say it, I have formed the opinion that he is the father that so many in this world need. When I first heard Jordan Peterson on the Joe Rogan podcast, I was at a particularly low point in my life. Hearing his advice totally changed the ways that I thought about how I can make a difference in the world, and made me want to find a purpose again. @@CRWeaventure yea we also have a side that uses scientific studies from 40 years ago like they're concrete. Science changes all the time so using stuff from 5 years ago could be wrong still. If you do it again and it changes you first see if something changed in the equation or formula before just saying it's fact. You can't try and bend 2 plus 2 into 7 simply cause you FEEL like it should be 7. You can type 2 plus 2 on 1000 calculators to get 4 but it's not suddenly 5 if 1 calculator says so. Equality of outcome is by definition appalling! That means regardless of how inept you are, and how effective another person is, you are rewarded equally. Let's say in that sense of a job and getting a promotion. You are simply incredible at getting the job done and your co-worker is entirely inept but you both get managerial positions - which would be equally of opportunity AND equality of outcome as well. It is absolutely proper you both had the equality of opportunity - BRILLIANT and admirable! But you get equality of outcome which is HORRIBLE for the company and you as the effective employee! You should of course be given the same opportunity but now the equality of outcome becomes a huge problem for the company because you have an inept person managing. You need the best people managing to be successful. Who's going to pick up the slack for the person who'd inept? Who's going to have to correct the errors and mistakes made by the inept manager? Summation of what I'm saying is equality of outcome takes away from a company running smoothly. Also why would anyone be motivated to work hard and strive to be better? Why do extra work and develop yourself in the field you're in if it doesn't matter because advancement at your job doesn't require you to be the best at what you do everybody gets the same outcome regardless if they are the best or the worst!
