I know everyone has been harping on about the Motion Picture version of Another Life, but I listened to that version before this, the original, and I straight up prefer the Motion Picture version, it just makes the lyrics 1000x more emotional and I’m here for this emerging trend of bands doing acoustic/instrumental/orchestral/stripped back versions of songs that has been happening this year ❤️❤️❤️

I actually find that there’s more emotion in the original version. Just something about how Chris distorts his voice when he says “another life”, it just hits me a lot harder. It’s like he’s releasing all of his pain when he sings like that. I also just love the guitar work, and the drums just make it so much more hard hitting

I’d describe Chris Motionless’s voice in the chorus of Voices as grainy too. It’s more of a very light fry scream. Still has correct pitch, but just the right amount of grit.

A suggestion for when your friend comes back again, since you're conflicted between listening to something new and showing him something you've already heard, is that just do both. Show him a track you like first, then both do a fresh reaction of a track you've never heard, same band or different. You could even do a band retrospective--listen to a track from their first album, then from their latest, and talk about the differences, what you liked more, etc. It would probably work best with a band with at least four albums. Here's some stuff you could put on the back burner for fresh songs when he comes back. These are all important bands that have had a huge impact on the metal world, and most songs are from some of the greatest metal albums ever made.
