I highly recommend listening to Tokyo Warhearts their 99 live album, Alexi’s guitar work was at its peak RIP

The stuff Alexis has got on recording in terms of solos might be the best we’ve ever seen. And then to see his ability to play a lot of it on stage is just incredible. I think Alexi was one of those types of guys who didn’t like to take himself seriously, and because he didn’t play rock or five he’ll never be super famous. But he is my Eddie Van Halen and I think that’s the case for a lot of people.

the dude had 'it', I've heard other folk put him in the same bracket as Eddie in terms of impact on them in their more formative years, totally get where you're coming from

Awesome video! 😎 Maybe you could do a longer part 2 with in-depth chord progression analysis, etc.?

I would love to hear more about his song writing. Chord progressions and his ability to switch modes masterfully. He is imho a "Modern randy rhoads" His writing is so unique, showmanship, and attitude give him that extra special little touch. Flawless on an album, wild live!

I've done a wee of that kinda stuff on him, these were licks: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y2WUlJxvp7KUm6M And this is a breakdown of the licks, going in to a bit of the theory behind them: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJ2zhZhreMl5mLc

Poor Alexi. They were a great live band. For such a heavy band their music was really easy to listen to.
@JbfMusicGuitar3 жыл бұрын
Totally, loads of great hooks and riffs to latch onto amongst all the heaviness.

@Keith Nowak I hadn't realised how many of the his solos from the Hatecrew album had etched themselves into my brain, all the shred, but a butt tonne of hooky melodies as well. The guy had something really special.

Great lessons and fantastic effort that you are doing for us. Could you please do a video about Mark Knopfler technique.

Another very cool video Jack.. They are so informative.. As you know I am a Band maid fan, and I know you like them too... I have another song from another all female japanese band I would so like to see your reaction to, and what you would class the music as? It is catchy as hell. The group is Gacharic spin, and the song is mind set. I won't put the link as it tends to get removed.. Could you do the music video, the live I have seen is not as well recorded, and you don't get to hear all the instruments as well.. Best wishes as always.

Alexi gets lots of credit for his guitar work but Alexi was also an amazing song writer. Ye his writing seemed more "uninspired" from Are you dead yet to Halo of blood( I think he just wrote albums during those times fast just to get on tour). His riffs are great, melodies are great. Also the atmosphere and color on his songs are great too.

Totally, he really tapped in to something special for the HCDR album, heavy but accessible, tonnes of hooks, great solos, great structures and smooth section changes... really next level writing,

I still liked the Are You Dead Yet album though. It was fun.

Dimebag was a super guitar hero he and Lennon share the same death date. But Dimes recording is so much better than the Beatles. Those friends were real not fake BS which is wat was needed

There is also so little gain on his tone, very unforgiving tone to play live with.

You have shit load of reverb and bit delay. Makes easier I know...Alexi doesn't. It sounds very dry bc he had only chorus...
