I used to work with this woman in the UK who was married to man that was a quite a bit older (he’d be in his 80s now) and was born into a Romany family. They’d never registered his birth. He didn’t have a birth certificate, national insurance number, which is like a social security number, he couldn’t get a passport and he couldn’t work unless it was off the books. Luckily healthcare is easier in the UK, if you have a British accent no one even thinks twice about questioning if you should be getting completely free healthcare or not! It was a bit rubbish for them though! He didn’t even try to make himself “legal” until he was in this 30s, and by then no one could remember when exactly he was born! They didn’t celebrate birthdays so no one really bothered to keep track. He wasn’t exactly sure how old he was even.

I mean, he basically exchanged a life of servitude and combat, short might I add, full of ugly sights and the pain of losing many loved ones to war, famines, and diseases, for what he could only consider (from his frame of reference) as a life of abundance worthy of a king, in a world full of magic and wonders beyond his imagination. Not mentioning the lover, though it'd still be worth it even if they separated rather quickly. And technically... This movie ain't wrong, if you don't partake in reproduction, or the survival of someone's offspring that's genetically close to you, your gene given mission as a human being is a failure. Well... Probably. It'll be a failure for your gene but it could make the job of other genes easier so meh... Am I saying this witch was a metaphor for the selfish gene hypothesis in a silly christmas romance flick ? ... Perhaps ^^

In the end, she also decide to go back to his time to live happily ever, but after a year he becomes one of the victim of the Black Death, so she is stuck in 1300's England, alone, and her knowledge of science, make other people uneasy, so she becomes secluded. Wishing to go back to her time, she begins to study magic, and try to find any artefact related to time travelling, that is where she finds a blue medallion working only around Christmas time, so she goes back in time to find her Cole and..you guessed it, all this time, the old lady in forest was in fact V-Hughe from another timeline trying to repair the mistake from the past. BOOM!
