Lindsey said that women who spoke out about abuse (metoo) were weak. Yes, she turned to substances, but none of us helped the situation by buying the tabloids and clicking on the articles that cashed in on her difficulties. @Meg_intheclouds2 жыл бұрын
@sansyeux I disagree- sure they are mostly predictable but the good ones still find ways to keep it fun and engaging- they are full of character development and the conflict exists because of the characters not as a plot device. The leads also have chemistry and you are rooting for them. A great example is one of my favourites What’s your number. We get this people pleasing girl who spends her entire life trying to be perfect for everyone around her- she is never herself in relationships and as a result they never work out. Her “perfect” sister is getting married and her mum is overbearing and Critical (makes sense why she is like she is). Then she reads an article in her favourite magazine that is a Study that says most women who sleep with over 20 people can’t find a husband. She then makes a list and finds out she’s slept with 19. Then decides to track down her ex’s- again it’s how she works her belief is that she needs to fit into this societal ideal of women right and find a husband and her worst fear is never having that. She then makes a deal with her neighbour (aka the love interest) who helps her track down her ex’s and meanwhile they form a relationship. This works because the conflict is rooted in The MC’s desire to not be alone and the love interests fear of commitment. But he also is jealous and acts out because he is afraid she will find better than him. It’s not a random conflict and it also isn’t miscommunication is done out of fear and the mc not really knowing who she is. The character development comes because of this argument and her “perfect boyfriend” who she finds with her first love, who her mum approves of, but realises she hasn’t been herself and around the love interest can be herself. Anyways at the end her and the neighbour reunite as she says that she is sorry and that he was right and she can be herself around him. Then he says he’s sorry he’s scared and screwed up. And also realises she does not care about her number and external standards set for her. The fact they are going to Get together is predictable but that’s why I love rom coms- it’s not about how it ends but about the journey it takes them to get there. You are invested because the story is rooted in the characters. The actors have chemistry and it is well written and acted. Where as this film is predictable but it’s not enjoyable because the film itself is very surface level, some scenes go on way longer than they should, the jokes feel like they fall flat, it’s all external conflict- it’s not as if with her memory she is able to start again, there was no desire to prove Herself or desire to escape her life- it wasn’t like a she has everything but love and genuine people- and then she finds it. The characters were tolerable but some were super unlikeable and overall I just wasn’t invested.

It was cheesy and a perfect movie for her comeback. She has another 2 movies coming out with Netflix in the next year or so. This was perfect to dip her toes back in without going for a “Meaty” role that would be heavily reviewed and prob was a lot less pressure for her. Love Lindsay!

I'm actually glad they didn't do what you suggested. I liked it. It's a typical Christmas romcom that mashes up other romcoms, but it was fun. It's great to see Lindsey up to do comedy and silly stuff, not being afraid of it looking silly. It's great to see her getting back into the film industry, hopefully on her own accord. It's strange to see HER in something again, but I'll take it anytime. I once saw an interview where she said she won't do any castings and that she has to be offered the roles. I felt huge amount of fear of rejection and insecurity when she said that and I think that's fair given what she went through. Can't wait to see how it all turns out and where she'll be careers-wise in three years or so. Also the other actors were great too. I enjoy the Todd and forest-man storyline. It felt fresh. And the guy from Glee was a great romcom romantic interest. It wasn't a bad movie and it did exactly what it set up to. And I think that's important thing to remember. They didn't aim for Oscar grungy masterpiece, they wanted to make wholesome and funny Christmas romcom. And they did it.
