Absolutely incredible video. Thank you so much for making this buddy. The lighting in this was so invaluable - it was like being stood there and having an in-person tutorial. I think in conjunction with your timings video this is the final piece of the puzzle for me. My last practice was my best result yet, and I got compliments off my plumber doing the boiler service that it was better than most professional work he'd seen in his time, but I still felt it wasn't quite right and still didn't quite have that synchronicity with reading the state of the plaster to know when to carry out each stage. But now thanks to the lighting in this video, I can tell I was performing both the flattening off and the closing in that little bit too late, and the first wet trowel that touch too soon. As it happens, my next practice is on Friday, and thanks to this video I absolutely cannot wait to get on that trowel. Thanks so much again for uploading buddy (and sorry for the essay)!!

Great videos Alex thanks. Sounds stupid but would love a fly on the wall video on you 'set up': how you lay out your work space, buckets, cleaning routine, (apart from have a labourer!) van lay out. Cheers mate keep the videos coming, it probably feels like your rehashing the same thing but honestly the more time I watch new stuff the more it sticks in.

I'm curious how you learned your trade. I'm currently looking for Saturday work to get into it but also wondering if evening classes etc are going to be my only option.
@AlexMorleyPlastering2 жыл бұрын
I learnt from another plasterer taking me on. But I had a bit of experience with plastering for some time before I started. Best bet would be try and do some free weekend work with another plasterer. Or have a practice at home. Try and keep an eye out for old plastering tools on eBay. You can get some great deals on there.

Love the channel Alex. Quick question, why don’t plasterers appear to use spot boards any longer? I thought it would be quicker to draw the plaster from a board as you don’t have to change trowels. A marginal difference I accept !!
@AlexMorleyPlastering Жыл бұрын
We don’t because we do much larger mixes. Spot boards only take 1 bag, generally we mix 3 bags at a time. Even if you were to pour it out a bit at a time the bucket would be too heavy to lift up. Lastly they take up a lot more room where we are working, and it’s another thing to carry in the truck Hope this answers the qs.

hi mate, been using my 13 nela carbon 6 months now, just breaking in nicely, but noticed the heel of the trowel has turned quite a bit, it has got quite flexible which is great, but wondering will this be a trowel that will last me years, as i look down the blade and its a bit all over
@AlexMorleyPlastering2 жыл бұрын
I have had my 14” Nela for 6 years. Fairly average wear tbh. My Previous boss had his for about 26 years. (MT carbon) It will be more flexible than SS. Regards the waves. Although I wouldn’t be overly concerned. It’s worth looking at how you store your trowel. As that can massively effect how wavey the blade is.

Hi Alex would you recommend the nela carbon 14 inch? Looking for another solid option too My MT and was wondering what your experience is like with the nela
@AlexMorleyPlastering2 жыл бұрын
I have had the Nela 14” with a wooden for about 6 years now. By far the best trowel I have had. I would by another. Most of the time it’s the only trowel I use for all stages of a set. Gives a better finish that a flexi.

You might want to invest in a wireless microphone, keep it up.
@elginoctave2 жыл бұрын
I was going to make the same comment. I am from the US, so the British accent makes it a bit harder to understand. But using the mic in the camera introduces a lot of room echo, and the audio level goes up and down, depending if Alex is looking at the camera or away from it. And there were key points, where I just couldn't quite understand......... A wireless mic would bring up the only minus point of your fine videos..... (Your content is great, your videos are fine, and your presentation is very good,,,,,,,, only your audio is lacking............. Thank you,,,,
