@@Onthetrowel There's an expression used in a lot of trades... "Use your head to save your legs" (get everything you need out of the van / stores and to the work zone in one trip, don't go back and forth all day collecting this and that, then those...) No doubt you do that, since you've also, and quite brilliantly, explained "how to use your head to save your back" by "counting dips" at about 17 minutes in... The number of times I've been told that this that or the other bit of wasted time and effort "was only a few seconds"... But it's a few seconds times thousands of instances every year... 3 seconds x 1,000 = 50 minutes... and that would just be four instances of wasting three seconds per day at work... We had an apprentice (not plastering ) on one site, to whom every day was day one... Site was remote from shops, but he arrived every day without his lunch, without a drink, and without his cigarettes... Never learned...

Noting that there are many ways to accomplish the same task and not 'the' way, helps a lot; continually re-adjusting what you do and not how you do it, leads to early-onset fatigue and rapid disillusionment in your work, particularly when you're a 'occasional user' of the trade as a general builder. It's also good to see demonstrated that items part art, part science. That's the best plastering video I've seen since the SB plastering intro vid and b'fuck, I've watched a fair few! Very many thanks, all.

Great fun! Really liked the top of wall method- will adopt that. Rog's angle of attack is so steep that he gets the gear all over the floor- needs to sail closer to the wind! @REDGRIFFIN1008 ай бұрын
Top job, two brilliant blokes. ROGER I'm not knocking you but I can see where you could really benefit, In plumbers terms...you need to feel the "hydraulic pressure" between the trowel, material and the wall, and you need to feel it by changing direction without taking the trowel off the wall, like guiding a wave back and forth. Otherwise it's not floating it's just pushing lifting the trowel off then pushing it back again which doesn't have the hydraulic pressure part. It's why you prefer a thicker mix, put less on your trowel and it would massively change how easily you can float material into corners. For one wall (best on a blank wall without cables sockets etc) try to really get used to floating the material back and forth from one trowel edge to another by rocking your wrist and the trowel WITHOUT taking the trowel off the wall. Forget about trying to make it tidy just concentrate on moving the material back and forth on the same area and you'll notice the plaster starts becoming more fluid and glides and does the work itself. That's it. I hope that helps, it helped me massively when it was explained in a similar way.
@SkillBuilder8 ай бұрын
Don't worry about giving me advice, I always take it positively. I really like what you are saying. When I watch the footage back I am disappointed that my technique is not fluid so I will try what you say. I love to watch Kirk and Blane Gray putting plaster on the wall, I find it relaxing, but when I watch my plastering it is frustrating.
@REDGRIFFIN1007 ай бұрын
@@SkillBuilder sorry Roger I only just saw your reply. Be warned you'll probably catch the trowel edge when first trying it because you've been so careful to work using one edge at a time for so long. But once this clicks and you are moving this wave of material back and forth I think you're going to be so happy you'll kick yourself it didn't happen sooner. All the best in your endeavours and remember to enjoy it 👍
