The front end might be controversial, but aside from that the 7-Series is simply the best full-size luxury sedan in America at the moment. From comfortable seats to an easier to use infotainment system than the S-Class, tons of power and an available electric model, this is the luxo-barge of your dreams. You know, if you dream of luxo-barges....

I’m not sold on the front design. I like the look of the headlights, and even though I’m not a big fan of divorced lights, I think it’s necessary for turn signals when LED lights are on - a lot of the time the headlights are brighter than the turn signal and you can’t see if someone is signaling to turn. That said, if I was loaded, I’d get one because… why not? Sounds like BMW actually made a comfortable road trip car that doesn’t have a pelvis shattering ride.

Yeah the accent lights still totally suck ass *STILL* I agree...it's official. Need to be wrap around and maybe tear drop as absolutely *ZERO* flair go on here. Still as Flagship Sedan remain wholly impressed by the German offerings with only Cadillac still winning once excluding all of the marketing gimmickry.
@WaywardAnalysis
@WaywardAnalysis Жыл бұрын
The non M version BMW has always had one of the most comfortable ride found anywhere. It's the M and the ridiculous 21+ inch tires with aspect ratio of less than 45 that has created the pelvis shattering rides...not just for BMW but all vehicles. Tires and suspension system have more to do with comfortable ride than the combination of everything else....and low profile tires will always have stiff and pelvis shattering rides irrespective of the vehicle.

Superb review, Alex, reflecting the consistently high standards of AoA. Between 23:02 and 23:05 you say 'I love the way the S Class drives' when you probably mean 'I love the way the 7-series drives', unless I've misunderstood. If it's a slip of the tongue, you could always add a visual on-screen correction. Excellent anyway.

Niche opinion: As a tall driver, I can't wait for windshield mounted rear view mirrors to become a thing of the past. They constantly block a very relevant portion of my frontward view. My last car was a Panamera 4S e-hybrid plug-in and it was nice to have the power as well as great efficiency. I'm sure it drives great. It's Fugly on the outside, and the interior is chintzy. All that bling is directly aimed at where they want to sell the most, China. Personally, I find it gauche. Its less precise than usual handling character is also a kowtow to the Chinese market, where the softest ride is king.

The front end looks weird, imo. I do like split-light designs, even on the Juke which sort of kicked off the modern trend, but it doesn't always work. Especially when a car is going for classy over cute. I think what they should have done is delete the top headlights, flattened off the top of the kidney bean grill so the black housing for the lights and grill has 1 continuous line across the top, and rake the hood more from the cowl to the front making the front end slightly lower in appearance. I think that would make it look reminiscent of the i8 which is appropriate for their flagship.

Alex, It appears that you were so disoriented by FINALLY finding yourself in a sedan with ample headroom that you misspoke 5:09 and called it legroom. Please don't worry, I am sure many of us are just as awestruck by the first new sedan design since the original, swoopy Mercedes CLS where form actually follows function ie rear seats just as accommodating as the front row.🥳 I wonder if this radically functional BMW 7 Series will start a trend that eventually trickles down to sedans under $100,000.🤔 If it does, it might just save the sedan body style which has been decimated by the machinations of frustrated coupe designers. 🤨

Pay all that money for that front end design???? Alex failed to report the same idiots who designed the last versions of the Avalon and Prius, have so obviously been hired by BMW. As for no rear digital camera, how the hell are you supposed to see the rear when you are driving. I'm afraid people get carried away by marketing and image. Plus, their latest trend of not having height adjustable seat belts!!! BMW have made some wonderful cars over the years: 328 in the 30's, M1, 3.0 SI in the 70's, and 5 series in the 80's etc. But to me over the last 10 years, they have ballsed thing up completely with their designs.

I guess I'm getting to be an ole fart! 😇 I mean, I love tech, but for me this is just WAY over the top and over complicated with things that just seem gimmick-y, at least to me. Plus, I've personally heard the Master 7 Series Tech in my town "talking cars" with other other "car people", and he often says the 7 Series are really great during the first lease, but whoa to those sho buy them after the lease and warranty is over. The 2nd owner needs more money than the first owner. ha ha 🤣 It kind of reminds me of my first car when I was young and really dumb (an '83 Isuzu Impulse... I know I know I will explain). In retrospect I should have bought a '84 Honda Prelude or a Toyota Supra for a few thousand more. But that Isuzu had those "Satellite Controls" all around the steering wheel, where a person could basically run everything on the car without taking a person's hands off the steering wheel. I thought it was so cool... and it was, until things started going wrong (like a row of lights on the center computer row). I thought, "oh that will be a cheap lil' bulb." WRONG it was going to cost $900 because there was no way to change the bulb. That is what finally did it for me. My next car was a slightly used '86 Honda CRX Si that I got from the Pacific Northwest Honda Parts Manager... it was quick, reliable, got great MPG's, handled great, and was super simple. So in a way, I'm glad my first car was a complicated piece of junk with a fuel injected Chevy Luv / Isuzu Truck motor. It saved me from working my up to complex stuff that will break from then on. 😇

The 7 series and S Class use to be inspirational cars. But there's nothing in this car that appeals to me, at all. Screens everywhere, no buttons, no manual vent controls, plastic everywhere that will scratch very easily. And iDrive8 sucks. Climate control buttons are gone. Heated seats and ventilated seats are now have to be turned on / off in software. Even the HEATED STEERING WHEEL BUTTON is gone. No one can dispute that having to navigate a software menu to do simple tasks is safer than a switch you can locate and turn on, without looking, by memory. The fact the common sense has been lost around this is totally mind boggling. Kool Aid drinkers will say use voice commands. But the voice commands are slow and half baked, at best. You can easily press a button and have your attention back on the road before the voice command system is even ready to take your command.

Wait a second, BMW included a what's essentially a TV in the back along with non transparent rear sunshade but no electronic rear view mirror? That's a yikes. And that front end... nothing good about it.

All of a sudden this doesn’t look very ugly. The grille is better than the m3 or 4 series

Not a fan of the front end - the headlights remind me of 2017(ish) Jeep Cherokee (?)

I bought a two year old 7 series for 33% of original sale price twenty years ago. It was an amazing car that I owned for eight years. Apart from the strange styling it is probably a great ride.
