The best looking Toyota Camry in 10 years, the biggest mistake they made with this is not having the lithium-ion battery in all hybrid trims. I hope that changes in the next year, styling wise it does share some nods to previous generations however it's exceeds all of those past generations and then some. The Camry has grow up and finally looks like it's more expensive brother the Lexus ES. Lastly we need ventilated seats Toyota so make that happen!
@sfresh92 Жыл бұрын
Ive read somewhere toyota said theres not enough research on longevity of lithium in hybrid use. Nickel batteries can last hundreds of thousands of miles in good health for decades. They might just be testing the waters with lithium in the base models.

It's crazy that there's no rear vents in the model you've shown. I just don't understand why it's not standard yet. As someone who lives in the desert, it's such a huge benefit to get a/c to the back of the cabin, especially with kids in the back.
@mbeutel58547 жыл бұрын
Of course they would but what could it be? Maybe a couple hundred? so for example $24500->$24850... The small amount increase per car vs not being available at all.....I'd pay for it in a heartbeat! It's a HUGE convenience for those in the back seat and cools or heats the whole cabin more efficiently. I think every car should have rear vents, well passenger cars anyways. Maybe not necessary for sport orientated cars.
@OSTKCabal7 жыл бұрын

At 5:50: The LE model uses a 1.0 kWh Lithium battery; the SE and XLE use a 1.6 kWh Nickel battery, which should be about twice as heavy. So EV range is less in the SE, not greater. It is the weight difference and tires that are the main reasons for the difference in mileage, not driving in EV mode. Despite marketing claims by Toyota, EV mode has little to no effect on mileage. The energy comes from the same place, just deferred. That is, until you run out of capacity in the battery, which is more likely in the SE. And not measured in the EPA mileage estimates.

The only downside is the A/C SUCKS!. I live in a very hot area Fresno and the battery charging system for the electric motor is so good it doesn't allow the gas engine to push the R/4 around in city driving so it doesn't stay cool as it should. Freeway, the A/C works great! I could be wrong with why I think the A/C doesn't work very well in city driving.. Thoughts?

Interesting points you bring up. Let's agree to revisit this issue in 15 years and see who was right. I say 15 years because we know that Nickel batteries last that long. Good review as always Alex. I picked up a non-hybrid SE 2 weeks ago. It had NO LED tail lights as you suggested in this review. It's only a regular bulb where the brake light is located and it serves as both the brake and night time lights!. The rest of the tail light assembly doesn't light up at all like the XSE or XLE piped LED display but is rather just a big reflector? I wonder if it will be possible to swap mine for the XSE tail light assembly? This bothers me greatly and any ideas on how to connect LEDs in the tail lights for the regular non-hybrid SE will be greatly appreciated.
@QuentinQuatermass6 жыл бұрын
Excellent video, Alex! I also was disappointed that most of the 2018-2019 Camry SE tail light assembly is just a reflector unlike the XSE which has a string of LEDs to light it up. I just got my 2019 SE (not hybrid) and need to pull up behind it in another car at night to see how well it reflects. I'm sure it's way too expensive to swap out with XSE tail lights and really it's not a big deal when you think about it. Overall I'm very pleased with my new Camry SE and am so glad I went with it over the LE model.

Do you know why the 2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid's engine holds 13 gallons of gas rather than 17 like the previous year? That's a decrease over 120 miles per fill up. The same thing is happening with the new 2019 Toyota Avalon; the gas tank capacity shrank from 17 to 13 gallons. The Honda Accord Hybrid's gas tank capacity decreased too! The 2017 model's engine holds 15.8 gallons but the 2018 model's engine holds 12.8 gal. It's a decrease of 774 miles per fill up to 601! Do you know why is this happening? None of the reviews have addressed this yet. Thanks.

Hauling less gas probably helps up the MPG. And better MPG helps sell hybrids more than tank size. It might also help them meet some higher gov't standard. This is a guess on my part.

Ron Shaw I mean, if it works it works. Why does it matter if it's a "dated" design? Personally, I kind of like having separate places for certain controls. Some steering wheels and center stacks have gotten really busy in the last few years. I know Toyota gets a lot of flack for not always being willing to adapt but I've liked that they don't change things for the sake of changing things. Idk, different strokes I guess
@kens97sto1717 жыл бұрын
