One of the best looking and performance cars from Lexus (apart from the GS-F). Very nice job Lexus. Front Led headlights are amazing.
@Toyota4Life9 жыл бұрын
Beautiful car. It's a work of art I had the opportunity to see one parked and it just looks amazing. Like a mini exotic. On that note he did not mention a big selling point of this RCF over the caddy and the rest is RELIABILITY. It's like the reviews don't care how a car will be years down the line. This V8 will most likely live longer then all those turbo engines. That's a big buying point for me if I'm spending my hard earn cash I want a car that will give me as little issues as possible. That being said the German cars bore me not because their bad cars but they are typical choices. So the V or F would be my two cars to pick from. I would go with the Lex it just looks and sounds wild and I love those seats and those headlights looks badass at night time. I also think this RCF will holds it vaule better and longer then the germans. All great cars in this class but the Lexus has the most character of them all.
@1northsparrow2469 жыл бұрын
Toyota4Life I think car reviewers typically underplay reliability to avoid offending the car manufacturers who have so 'generously' supplied them cars to drive, free travel and accommodation . More importantly the car reviewers typically work for publications or programs almost entirely dependent on advertising from auto companies. This built in conflict of interest shortchanges the consumer looking for an objective opinion. I think Alex does a far better job than most others of discussing expected reliability in all of his reviews. BTW what do you think of Toyota having Mazda build cars for them?
@AAutoBuyersGuide9 жыл бұрын
Desperate4Attention I didn't go back over the edited version but in teh raw footage I do comment that it is likely to be more reliable than most. However Cadillac does score well in terms of reliability. I generally don't comment on reliability because it's usually not possible to comment on reliability of a brand new model and most of my reviews are on new cars (the nature of the business). You can get reliability scored from True Delta, Consumer Reports, etc. That said, most shoppers in surveys indicate that reliability after year 3 is not a big issue when it comes to buying. I know that sounds odd, but usually features and gadgets are far more important to new car shoppers. Safety and reliability are oddly less important to the majority of shoppers. A large reason for this is that when you look at detailed reliability numbers there is much less daylight between a reliable and unreliable brands, far less than there was even 10 years ago. Also the average shopper replaces a car after about 5 years, just out of warranty in reality. The average age of cars on the road is increasing, but that initial purchaser doesn't seem to be keeping their car that much longer than before. Lastly lease customers generally indicate that reliability is very low on their list because they don't intend to keep the car after the end of the lease.
@1northsparrow2469 жыл бұрын
Alex on Autos Very sound points and a very diplomatic answer in keeping with your general style. Some might say that people who don't research or value a car's reliability deserve to end up with an unreliable car. Compared to the bad old days, there are mountains of relatively objective data to be mined to help assess the likely lifespan of a vehicle. People spending their hard earned money on a car have never had more opportunities to steer away from the money pit brands which still exist out there.
@AAutoBuyersGuide9 жыл бұрын
Desperate4Attention Unquestionably they do, but oddly enough the real money pits are those that are more likely to be leased or short term ownership vehicles which is less of a concern for the new car buyer. There is statistically little difference between a Camry, Accord and a Malibu for instance, and the Malibu's lower purchase price helps balance things out. When it comes to things like a Range Rover or exotic car, then shoppers tend to care even less although things are even worse there.
@demontwashington53888 жыл бұрын
I subscribe to Consumer Reports, which is a good source of reliability data. But I've found their reviews to be much less reliable than those on this channel. They're getting better, but my sense is that CR's reviewers are not car junkies like me, and therefore have different tastes. Bottom line: use a variety of sources when doing your pre-purchase research.

I think the RC-F is the only Lexus which the Spindle Grille, IMO, actually works. The IS F-sport is still polarizing (unfortunately not in a good way), the RX F-sport is laughable and the LS is questionable. The GS F-sport is better, but it doesn't have the full spindle grill yet, but I think that's better. The problem of the ~3900lb however, has to do with that Frankenstein three-way hybrid construction explained at 0:40. Sure it gains good rigidity from the IS-C, handling of the IS and space of the GS but the weight of all of them is combined. It might be OK for a RC350, but at the RC-F performance level it is disappointing. However, I still find myself drawn to this car. While this isn't as sharp as a driving tool as a BMW M4, it makes you look LESS like an actual tool; It sacrifices the last 2 tenths of performance to the BMW to make it a much better everyday driver for the rest of the 8 tenths. It is more plush, intoxicating/natural sounding V8, smooth-shifting auto combined with Lexus reliability, I can definitely see the strong appeal.

+Trades46 i agree the RCF is really heavy but tbh no one who drives the BMW or Lexus will find much of a difference in power because no one goes to a track... most people will feel the weight of the RCF though. i think the spindle grille works for all Lexus models and the IS grille is a little narrow and i actually think should adopt this grille i think it would look much better... the LS looks mean and aggressive and the RX was just redesigned and has the giant grille now and same with the GS

I just can't see Lexus selling too many of the RC-F's, so many options already well established and proven at this price point. The RC 3.5L Coupe or IS C with 2.5L or 3.5L will probably outsell the RC-F at a ratio of 250:1.

I’ve got an RC F & I’ve heard that one of the high pressure pumps with get an obvious chirping noise at idle (apparently not noticeable at higher RPM’s). Apparently these high pres pumps don’t like ethanol. Lexus was, & maybe still are replacing both pumps if the problem occurs. I only use fuel with no ethanol, I’ve had the car a couple years & approx 8,000km & haven’t had an issue.

@AAutoBuyersGuide9 жыл бұрын
cadsux Well, the Corvette is a very different kind of vehicle. The Lexus, BMW, Audi and Cadillac are all much more civilised than the Vette. The sharpness of the steering in the Chevy, the way the suspension is designed, etc all make the Vette more challenging to drive at or near the limit (which is obviously higher) but that also comes across as less "polished" The Lexus is also likely to be more reliable.
