I've said this before as a Lions fan. Goff is not Tom Brady for sure. BUT you take any quarterback and boos their confidence it does wonders to a person. Goff is a prime example. Heck, even the likes of Baker Mayfield, Kirk Cousins, and Geno Smith have turned their careers around. Sure, they all have their bad tendencies but in the right system and more importantly, with organizations that believe in you, you can see the difference it makes. I'm proud of Jared and happy to have him. He did what Stafford never did, win us a Division and a playoff game. Much of the thanks goes to Sheila on down to Dan. They publicly support him and surely in private as well. It has helped him grow as a quarterback and I think that has set him up nicely when BJ does inevitably leaves and the next OC comes in. I feel like he will know what he can and cannot do and work with the OC to formulate a winning offensive attack.
@jayclean56539 ай бұрын

The formula is so simple but hard to execute. Give him a good O line so he has time to throw the ball, and build the playbook around what your QB does well. Have those pieces to the formula in place everything else will work it’s self out.

Exactly this. The teams that are still in the playoffs have an offense that does this.
@BiggieTrismegistus7 ай бұрын
The Lion's O line is nasty on both the pass and run and Goff is good when he has time. When the run game gets going and Goff can start using play action he gets even better. It's an offensive system that's perfectly built for the players. The scary thing is that they can still get better at WR and a decent second receiving TE would be an absolute nightmare for every team.
@increase98969 ай бұрын
dagger always reminds me of the pick and roll in basketball. its so simple as far as the concept, and pretty simple in execution as well (albeit with dozens of variations), but its still something you can always get better and better at, to the point where even if the defense knows exactly what you are doing, they cant really stop it if you execute well enough. the lions and goff are great at it.

@zeromega45419 ай бұрын
@@Reilly5 You really don't need a great QB. All you need is great coaching and a front office to get the right players. Just look at San Francisco. They won with Alex Smith, Colin kaepernick and Jimmy G. Mike Nolan and Mike Singletary couldn't win with Alex Smith but Jim Harbaugh made it to the conference championship game with him. He made it to the superbowl with Kapernick and they fire Harbaugh all of a sudden Chip Kelly and Jim Tomsula can't win with a QB who went to the superbowl? Then they hire Shanahan and they start winning with Jimmy G. He gets shipped to Las Vegas and totally flops.
@t4d0W9 ай бұрын
You need a great QB to win consistently as the engine of the offense. Coaching and FO are integral to set a high standard for play and identity. But talent helps elevate that scheme. Niners are an outlier since they have the best gang of weapons on offense a regular QB can work with. Shanahan also didn't settle for QB either as him and Lynch agreed to move up that one draft to take a chance on Trey Lance. Thing is Shanahan is smart enough to have a contingency plan with a similar simple QB as a backup who can pilot the offense.

But yes, these other people you mentioned have helped Goff to hone his abilities to be even better. So he's gone from a top 10 QB to a top 3 QB, as long as the OL is at least top 14, which it frequently was that or worse this season. It was only during the games they had all their staring OL that the OL was a top 2-5 OL, which had Goff then be at least top 3 if not top 1 sometimes. It also then had the bottom D be mid D or as high as top 8-12 D, since they finally had the energy to focus on trying to create turnovers instead of on trying to last the length of the game.

His rookie season it looked like a bad call to trade up for him, and he improved his sophomore season but kinda felt like how Justin Fields is now-really athletic and did some things pretty well but wasn’t going to be an all-world quarterback. His breakout third season surprising to everyone, but looking back McDermott, Beane, and Daboll showed having a young QB’s back, putting in the right pieces (shoring up the o-line with Morse and Dawkins, getting a great receiving core of Diggs/Beasley/Brown), and good play calling can make all the difference.

@@TheBouier cap, u watch the tape u see it and it’s undeniable, everyone in the nfl knows it. Not everyone sucks under pressure at all, also those stats are actually vs the blitz not when someone is right on him. Misleading stats of course for a casual 😂🫵

13 touchdowns under pressure, 2nd most in NFL history

@@Nick-qh6rp lmao watch the tape bud, pressures in that case just means the pocket can be slightly collapsing and isn’t perfect. Reality is he absolutely crumbles under pressure and when he gets hit and becomes a liability

@@kylegabriel5794he has done what others couldn’t in Detroit and made a Super Bowl so I think he better than what you say I watched them the entire year being a lion fan and I have seen multiple time jg moving in the pocket taking hit and doing well under pressure. It not like he perfect but you act like he’s a headless chicken he was the first overall pick for a reason, and brad Holmes knew him and traded for him for a reason.

hey dude…. you keep showing clips of this Lions vs Vikings game to use as examples, but the thing is…. the Vikings are TRASHHHHHH my guy lmao also the Lions are trash as well. Lions haven’t played a good team all year , and the times they have, (Ravens) they got completely exposed 🤷🏼♂️

Are the Chiefs bad? Are the Cowboys horrible? Aren't Packers good? Try a better argument next time
