ℹ️ DESCRIPTION
I drove from Mississippi to Missouri as a truck driver to make a delivery. it was crazy because the place where I picked up my delivery from took 8.5hrs to load my trailer. that's insane!!!
the drive there ended up being.......interesting to put it at that because the address I got was located in a random dirt field. I ended up using 2 gps' to try and get me there but I ended up getting very very lost.

Who is ALEX THE TRUCKING GUY?
I am a 23 year old traveling the United States that posts day in the life vlogs of a truck driver. I attended CFI's trucking school at crowder college and have been a truck driver since August 2021 but recently switched to work for a trucking company named Variant after watching a TON of Variant trucking driver reviews . I got into trucking because I've always wanted to live life on the road since I was 18 years old. Originally I was going to do vanlife but decided to live the trucking life instead because it was a better financial decision. I mean I have free housing and I travel the U.S. It's awesome! I mean what job other than trucking can you listen to podcasts while you work and travel the country for free???

Bro night driving is the bees knees. As a professional driver myself. If I’m able to I’m driving in the dark. NO TRAFFIC. It’s peaceful. And when you stop to fuel up there’s no line or no rush to pull up most of the time.

Agreed. From one driver to another. BUT, pulling a reefer, I can get some whacky appointment times. Thanks to the chaos that ensues in the planning department. They'll give me a schedule so tight, you can bounce a quarter off it. Or I'm there 2 days earlier. That's the worst.

You know that these warehouses didn’t used to be this way. I was a truck driver and a warehouse guy. When I was in the warehouse, when a truck backed up to your dock door, your job was to load or unload these trailers (ASAP). There was always someone there to load or unload. If you were on lunch, you had to finish lunch later. These places forgot the concept of respect for the truck drivers. If that truck isn’t moving something isn’t getting delivered.

Couple things I do when I'm not sure about a location. 1. Check street view and satalite view. 2. Check for reviews often other truckers will mention issues and give directions to new places. Just be sure to look at the date the review was placed as things change. 3. Call the business. If their number is listed in their profile on Google maps call them. You can get a lot more info from them than anywhere else. I ask for directions, hours of service if they aren't 24hr facility, ask if there's a wait to load/unload and I ask if they allow overnight parking. Podcasts are fun, music can get repetitive if it makes its own Playlist, audio books are nice too. Best thing to do though is annoy your wife with calls about what you're seeing on the road. "I just hit an armadillo in Tennessee."
@ROT4RYfc3s
@ROT4RYfc3s 2 жыл бұрын
One thing I ALWAYS do when going to a new vendor or delivery is a satellite and street view. I'm doing Walmart dedicated right now so I don't have to check the satellite or street views for the store I'm delivering to, but I still do for the vendors I get sent to sometimes.

This is why I left regional Otr as a reefer driver and switched to JB Hunt DCS service doing a target account 5 days out 2 days off from the road. Best part is DROP AND HOOK! I refuse to deal with rude shippers and receivers who take 8hrs or more to unload or load a truck that’s ridiculous… from my experience being in Mesquite Texas (outside of Dallas) I had to wait 26hrs from the time I was checked in through the gate to backing up to a dock crazy times I do not miss!

As someone who used to do receiving I've got to defend my brothers. Those trailers there aren't empty. If they're at the dock, they're being unloaded. So you being the only "truck" isn't what you think. Also believe it or not a lot of loads aren't palletized. That means hand unloading. Shift changes and poor management can cause issues as well as we don't know what the inside of that warehouse looks like. It could be a circus. I remember when I worked at Academy.... The MAJORITY of the loads were hand unload, and during peak we had to wait for the handlers to clear space to put the product in your trailer because of the sheer volume of product

So true, good warehouse/company management is critical to saving time for everyone, their staff & the truckers hauling their products.

Do yourself and everyone else a favor. CALL THE SHIPPER/RECEIVER. This is how new drivers end up taking down power lines, getting stuck, hitting a bridge, and even sometimes laying the truck on its side.

There's less traffic yes but the people that are driving are usually more dangerous. They're either tired or drunk. Wrong way drivers are a thing too because it's harder to see.

I had a driver show up at his scheduled time. We thought we were going to have product based on what the plant said they were going to make. Poor guy had to wait 12 hours for the plant to make stuff that could be shipped where he was going. I felt so bad for him

When I worked at a distribution center, we had a constant problem of drivers winding up in our employee parking lot with no room to turn around. Finally one of the managers went out to the newest parking lot arrival and found out these drivers were following directions from their cell phones and not the directions on their on board computers. Their phones were directing them to the front door as if they were visitors or employees. But the on board comp was telling them the right way to receiving/drop yard.

@@lithium25693 When 60% of these drivers can't speak English, a sign is as useful as a fart in the wind. By the way, there's a sign at my "OLD" job that directs all deliveries to the next left. They have even placed 1-2 ton rocks at the sharp turn to dissuade these drivers. The local tow company makes a small fortune picking trucks or trailes off them.

Trucking seems like a pain sometimes, but it seems like a job where you must be able to go with the flow and be patient. I feel like you complain a bit, when you could be focusing more on the beauty of the things you come across during driving. Stay safe out there. Every moment is magical.

The first few times you drive around the country is awesome. So many things you’ve never seen before you became a truck driver. Then after you’ve seen the country a few times trucking becomes a JOB. It becomes WORK instead of an adventure.
