Robin Givens was married to Mike Tyson. She didn't have the best reputation back then. She was labeled a gold digger, etc.

I think the episode was shot not long after Robin and Mike did an interview with Barbara Walters where Givens basically humiliated/defamed him as he sat next to her. I've heard Tyson's Hulu documentary goes into detail about it

My favorite scenes in this episode was Rose tossing her drink back when Ernie said he was impotent (and that she knew was impotent was 😂) the restaurant scene, the worst lover and Etch a Sketch lines.

3:05 when Dorothy said to Rose "We're living with Robin Givens". And you said you don't know who that is she was a beautiful model and actress back in the 80s she was known for a TV show called Head Of The Class. She also posed nude for Playboy back in 1994. She was married to boxer Mike Tyson for about a year. She had a bad reputation and was labeled a gold digger back then.

In fact, the actor playing the man Rose is dating goes on to play a Klingon in TNG, and a Starfleet Admiral in Star Trek: Voyager. :D He passed away in 2020 at age 87.

this episode gives me alot of confusion.... Like.... Ernie seems genuine, and not at all trying to backstab Rose. Now I'm sorry if I'm wrong but, isn't it only psychopaths who can maintain looking and acting normal but then do something ridiculous without batting an eye...? He seems sincerely thanking Rose, so I'm so confused on what kind of relationship/person he sees Rose as when he's meeting her all those time? Not to mention, he also said he never stops loving his ex-wife, so what did he see Rose as then...?

While you do raise an interesting point, I think you're looking a little too hard into the issue. While the show did tackle several serious issues, it has always been first and foremost a comedy show. I think the writers just needed a punchline to the episode, and only had so much time to set everything up. Besides, we all know Rose bounced back from Ernie's treatment of her. As far as she was concerned, he wasn't worth keeping around anyway.

I agree with @Kelaiah01, Ernie was ultimately meant to be a one-off character. Admittedly this show (along with many others) didn't always write them off the most neatly. They many times just sort of "dropped" those characters with a "and then they left the end".

@@rbj8387 it's not about the character Ernie, but more about the moral lesson this tv series taught you. I was confused on what it tries to teach us with how Ernie's behaving. Unless it was not?

You don't know who Robin Givens is? She was a really big actress in the 80's and 90's. She was married to Mike Tyson in the beginning of his career. Robin and her mother appeared to be after Tyson's money and the marriage didn't end well. Robin was deemed a gold digger and kind of blacklisted. She's had some success as an actress usually playing the villain.
