That's one of the reasons I'm not a big fan of this episode. All of a sudden Rose is an orphan!....it's one of the worst continuity moments, or lack thereof, in the whole series.

As an adopted person myself, this episode has always been a hard watch. There's a struggle with self worth that many adopted people have even after they find a family, and I think that's what Rose's fantasy hits at. Marilyn Monroe famously fantasized that Clark Gable was her father when she was traveling between foster homes and orphanages. I had a similar thing where I had an idea of what my father looked like and who he was (without saying who the person was, he wasn't a movie star and isn't anywhere near as famous as Bob Hope). I'm honestly happy with the way my life has turned out but those dreams or fantasies never really leave you, usually because they were so crucial to getting through some painful and lonely times. And, yes, with all that said some parts of this ep are VERY lazily written lol

So if you've been keeping track of the show, there are a LOT of inconsistencies as the seasons progress. That's because the writers for the show kept changing and the early seasons had a completely different team than the later seasons. That's how you'll notice things like inconsistent numbers of children between the girls and inconsistent ages of children. The names and numbers of siblings between the girls also changes. For instance, when Sophia's sister Angela is introduced, they say that she and Sophia are their last living siblings. Then they add in Angelo and a plethora of other relatives Sophia still has in Sicily. This situation with Rose being adopted is another poorly implemented retcon. Just wait until you try keeping track of Blanche's middle name(s).
