I have owned eleven older Alfa Romeo cars and none of them had a chassis cover. I plan to buy a Giulia QV and have watched another belt changing video, The eleven older Alfa Romeo cars also had seven quart oil pans regardless of engine displacement. I thank you for producing this video.

One tip , if I may……I usually loosen the oil filter cartridge canister before I go underneath to drain the oil. Reason being is that there is a small quantity of oil airlocked in the filter housing and assorted plumbing that will drain into the pan once the cartridge housing is cracked…..just enough to break the seal. The OCD in me makes me do it!😂😂😂😂

@@autofanaticcars hey friend! I haven’t watched your vids in a while and you’re actually supposed to run AMSOIL 5W-40 Full SAPS European Formula in these. It’s a euro car with a Ferrari engine so it needs that ACEA A3/B4 spec. The signature series is good but the best protection for the pistons and cams you should use the oil above. AMSOIL makes European specific oil for euro cars called “European Formula”. Full SAPS is the additives that NEED to be run in these engines. If you want to still run 0W-40, AMSOIL makes euro oil in that viscosity with the Full SAPS.

Phil, Thanks for the insightful demo. I only wish I could have the same confidence in the work being done at my local dealer as you put into your car. So many little details add up to a fine ownership experience. The idea of a half trained half wit working on these cars is scary.

exactly plus almost all dealers put oil thats coming from huge vats and rumor was years back that they use recycled oil and not the same quality you get in a sealed container. not sure how much of this is true but i always see BMW, Mercedes and any other dealer pump oil from a gun that comes out of a huge metal drum with no brand name on it. kinda like those quick lube shops

Very informative video. Only thing I recommend is pulling the filter before or during the drain process. The lower rod with o-ring in the housing is the anti drain back seal. So if you pull it after the plug is back in you’ll drain about .5quart of old oil back into the pan.

Imagine taking that car to Jiffy lube. At least your Giulia has an oil dipstick. My x5 doesn’t. Hate that. Hate torque screws. They have the tendency to strip. Thank you and Great tips on evaporust and not using air tools to put them back on. That’s what they do when u go to jiffy lube or valvoline. they strip the screws all the time. They don’t wanna do it manually. Ten years ago, they stripped oil screw in my car and I almost burned the engine. Went back and they denied it. But it was them. I do it myself now. At that time i didn’t know much about cars.

yeah the evaporust is awesome, no fumes, safe and I have been using it for a long time on restoration projects. The factory lower hardware corrodes easily as I show and this can seize up the hardware over time and snap then you gotta go through hell drilling and extracting. the air filter is brand new before I got the car back.

hey -quick question (I have no mechanical experience except for changing tires, so excuse the silly question). I imagine the oil will drain best if the car is level - by putting the front end up on ramps, might that not result in some old oil remaining in the engine. Like if you empty a container of fluids, if you keep the container at an angle, some fluid will remain behind in the container.

As a career shade tree, moment you started getting into it. I thought, "very Chryslerish" which is a good thing. In fact the Stelvio (base, rwd) is the most reliable Alfa right now. Because the base 2.0 Turbo is the same engine in the Wrangler, Compass, and other Chrysler esque I4s. The 3.9 (I think) V6 is unique to Alfa and is going to be a lot more work then what the 2.0 is. So if you want something more reliable and daily, get the 2.0. the 3.9 is going to throw some trouble but a lot more then what the 2.0 will. Also if you want, you can swap out those screws for the panel for something more rust proof. Most manufacturers don't bother with making their small bits rust proof. It's natural because it cheapens cost. Just go to your local hardware store and I'm sure you can find stainless steel replacements or something better that won't rust. Especially if you live in a area with lots of snow. You can find them online for a box o hundred for a few bucks. Don't bother with those dealer prices man. I personally live in Florida, so it doesn't bother to just pull off any screw or bolt off a Old wrecker in a junkyard. Then keeping it when I need it for later.

Very informative and descriptive video. That was unreal how many rocks and gravel were up under that pan. THAT'S CRAZY! You would think a vehicle of that caliber would have a better design than that to not let those rocks/gravel gather up under that pan like that. Imagine if you were not as mechanically inclined a person as yourself and never removed that pan. Good gosh, after a few years, you'd be able to landscape a garden you'd have so much gravel up under there! That seems like a design flaw on Alfa's part but maybe all vehicles do that? Thanks for the info on the oil Phil. I think I am going to switch over to that myself for my own sports car. I have only run OEM oil since new but I am about 99% convinced your recommended Amsoil is probably better!

Can you change the oil on your own and keep the warranty? Because in most EU countries you must service your car at the dealership otherwise you would void the warranty
@autofanaticcars
@autofanaticcars 3 жыл бұрын
I will say back in 2005 Jaguar insisted that I let them do the oil changed on my brand new S Type R because they tried to scare me with this warranty void claim you mention. So I let them do it at the indicated 10k miles. got the car back the mechanic messed up, the oil pump failed and the engine blew up 800 miles after they gave me the car back. that was the last time I ever let a dealer do an oil change on my car.
@fskof

In the United States the warranty will not be void if you change the oil yourself. You just have to use oil that meets the manufacturer specifications. The laws might be different in the EU

in the USA you just bring the car in for warranty repair and the dealers cover it for the warranty period which is most 4 years coverage.

@@autofanaticcars and you don't have to prove them or provide any documents from unauthorized services that the car was maintanced properly? Here's a quote from our local Alfa Romeo dealer terms & conditions document: "The buyer must keep all documents proving that the vehicle has been maintained and repaired in accordance with the manufacturer 's instructions, and Provide them upon request by the seller. If the Seller determines that maintenance and or repair carried out without following the instructions of ALFA ROMEO, the quality guarantee for this car expires. So basically I can do this on my own, but it would be very difficult to prove them that it was maintained properly. (unless I record everything on camera??)
