I have a 17’ QV. needed brakes all around. Alfa dealer cost for OEM was $4,500 plus tax parts and labor (I’m in Toronto, Canada). Found a performance shop that recommended giro disc rotors with posi quiet pads, all in cost with tax was $3,500! A substantial savings for an upgraded set up. Had it done in November and it’s just finally getting nice out here so I don’t have much of a performance opinion yet. Over all feel is noticeable for sure. And they look fantastic.

Thanks for sharing and yes dealers are crazy thats why i show all the DIY on these cars on this channel to help owners out because doing a brake swap is literally 2 hours of labor. Also nice to see your limited use with the Girodisc you notice an improvement in the car overall. I could not believe how different the car feels just from the weight reduction on all 4 corners.

@@autofanaticcars it’s 2018 car, the calipers are different as the front ccb brakes are wider than the steels. Front set are plug and play. For the rears you need to change the rear hubs as the discs are 360mm instead of 350mm, the main caliper is radial mounted so would be easy to add a 5mm spacer but the Ebrake is lug mounted so no such joy. Message me if you need more details 👍

You will feel this upgrade. I swapped my OE rotors for Girodisc on my IS-F a few years back and had planned to do the same on the Giulia. Turns out both cars also use the same front Brembo caliper. I can attest that my favorite part of the upgrade was the improvement in ride quality and the small steering feel improvement. Never had any issue with them - I can say the alloy is tougher than the OE brembo cast iron alloy; and the Porterfield R4S while still fine on the street do not bite as well. Girodiscs can tolerate a more aggressive pad material, and you may want to know that about them depending on your use.

@clark724
@clark724 2 жыл бұрын
My qv came with CCB, I swapped them with girodisc because I track a lot. From my experience these rotors paired with race pads has about the same stopping power as the CCB. It does make the car a bit slower (some 2-3 miles too speed on the straights), but I don’t have 15k spare money to throw after perhaps 20 track days for carbon rotors. So if your qv has CCB, this is a cost effective option, but if your qv has steel rotors, I agree with Phil 100% this is a highly recommended upgrade

@@wojciechsobczak3247 very unfortunate truth about cooling. The oem CCB pads lasted about 3 days on me, and they gets chewed up unevenly, which makes very bad brake pulsation under street braking pressure.

crazy i know plus my car has Sparco carbon seats which are lighter and not all the updates of the newer cars like fold down seat, thicker glass etc so mine is lighter than the newer cars. I had my wheels custom made forged and they are lighter than the OEM technicos as well. this chassis reacts to every single incremental change you make to weight unlike most cars in the sport super sedan segment because most are so heavy to begin with.
@mrbryanmarshall
@mrbryanmarshall 2 жыл бұрын
Giros are second only to ccb. But, the cost with ccb is mental. Re weight, the technicos help, but they are actually under spec for the GQ. I’m speaking to a guy who designs the Ferrari F1 wheels who makes High end after market wheels, incl for the GQ, and he says they are not strong enough for the parameters of the car. This is evident with tracking, mine are starting to oval, seriously. Another customer’s ovaled and cracked, which mine are also going the way of. Temp on track. Open for discussion, I have high temp fluid, never had an issue after this. But, a friend with exact same set up as me (giro and blue) had a piston failure in one oft he callipers and was getting very odd wear and over heating, but calliper related, not discs I think.

@@rdrrua great figures. I have just retrofitted the a full new ccb set onto my car and installed the technico forged wheels for the maximum unsprung weight benefit. @autofanaticcars

I wish someone made a CCB rotor conversion aftermarket but it is such a small niche market and most track guys are converting to the Girodisc anyways as its more cost effective. the Girodisc is a substantial upgrade to these cars versus OEM and Tarox rotors i can not believe the changes it made to the car dynamically its so different to drive now/ i tried that ECM and it caused lots of fault codes with my Kw coilovers so I think there is a compatibility issue with my car and suspension. It also made zero improvements on my car I drove on it for 2 days and the car felt exactly the same as with the original ECM and switched it back. I was excited to see if it worked and made a significant change but my car is not a candidate for such.
