as an Italian kid I must say that this car, especially with our philosophy, was and still is a masterpiece. Yes it really isn't appealing for someone that wants cameras, heated and ventilated seats or a 3090 installed into the infotainment, BUT (as it always happens with alfas) the main objective was to be faster than german cars. We wanted to know if we could still do it, like we did in the DTM entering and destroying the competition. And we did for a brief moment. We will not have another giulia and we probably won't have another fully petrol alfa sadly. That's just an opinion of 21 years old with a fiat panda tho. :)

Qv owner here. Had 3 x M3s in a row before this. M3s feel like practical sports cars..I loved them. The qv feels more like a supercar, with the practicality of a sedan. I love it. Basically I love them both..my M3s were an e46 and 2 e92s though. Hate the F80. I really like the giulia interior..very italian. I particularly like the way the screen is blended into the dash, unlike most German rivals which have the screen stuck on top of the dash like they forgot about it. The giulia has a crazy chassis, lighting fast steering, huge traction and an absolute beast of a motor. Its a car that you really want to drive fast.. Car drives the best in race mode , buy one. You won't be disappointed !

The biggest thing I disagree with here is the interior. In an era where opposing manufacturers are going the route of fake leather, ipads unimaginatively glued on dashboards and didgital dials I actually love (not like, but LOVE) the approach alfa took with this interior. From the sweeping curves of the dash, to the proper leathers, to the proper analog dials and the way the LCD is elegantly hidden behind a glass beauty panel - I think they really put a lot of thought into the interior design, and to my eyes it really shows. By comparison if I look at a C-Class of the same era there's far too much shiny crap to the point that it looks like a pimp-mobile, and too much obsession with LCD screens everhwhere. Likewise the equivalent year 3-series interior just looks awkward, misfit and cheap. The S4/RS4 is the only compeititor that I would say has an interior that is both elegantly designed and brilliantly put together, but somehow to me the Giulia interior still has a little more flair. Also not sure what you mean by the lack of colour options, because I could swear I've seen Giulia QV's with black/tan, and black/red interiors. I've definitely seen it on the Veloce (and it looks stunning) but I'm pretty sure ive seen it on QV's too.

Sorry I meant its fucking stupid, but in a Ti, Lusso or Sport you can get some beautiful interiors, the only drawback it that you don't get 500+hp which sucks until you realize the regular car is a turbocharged 4Cylinder that can make well over 300hp, is significantly lighter than the Quadrifoglio and looks just as good from the outside (especially if you get the carbon package).

I finally purchased a 2017 QV around 2 months ago and I'm still amazed by it, absolutely zero buyers remorse. It's astonishingly quick (brutal in fact) and very scarse (UK), which I like, opposed to M3s, C63s, RS5s, Golf Rs, A45s etc etc. Whenever I park it anywhere I cannot resist a quick look back over my shoulder, which I believe shows I have chosen the right car for me. It is thristy, the brakes do take a little bit of getting used to and you will end up facing the wrong way if you get a little premature with the go pedal leaving a roundabout (especailly in race mode but also very achievable in Normal mode, certainly in the wet :-)

Does anyone buy 510 horses under the bonnet for fuel efficiency tho? You can easily achieve over 30 if you set in A( advance efficiency) as it'll disable 3 of the pots but that's not why you bought QV right? If you went just for the look but wanted to be cheap on fuel you would've gone for the 2.2 diesel engine. A friend had it before getting Veloce petrol. Very decent performance (180 horses) gorgeous and it returned over 50mpg, even 60 on a motorway run. But that's not why people buy QV. I wish they offered estates... Sometimes having family sucks when you can't afford running an extra vehicle as there is a money pit in the house ( meaning a teenage girl)...

@@nessuno5403 The brakes in my 2021 QV seem a bit less touchy and easier to modulate when coming to a final stop compared to my former 2019 Giulia which took me about 3-4 months to get used to. (Or maybe I got better at it after driving the Giulia.) So I agree with the thought that the brakes are more dialed in with the new model years. It was specially disappointing coming from 40+ years of BMWs. I love BMW brakes and the brake pedal feel and brake response. You always know where you are without thinking. I find there's always a little background processing by my brain when braking with the Alfa. I do find the brake pedal feel and smoothness of stopping are much improved when wearing Italian shoes compared to wearing athletic shores. My theory is that the Italian shoes have thin smooth leather soles that slide on the pedal whereas rubber sole shoes subtly stick a bit on the pedal which causes the brake-by-wire pedal sensor to chatter (vibrate) a bit that throws off the brake-by-wire computer with erratic data.

@@larrychew1 interesting shoe theory! I think I heard or read somewhere that with the Giulia you just commit and trust the system to do its thing. New BMWs are now also brake-by-wire, but perhaps helped by ability to change brake levels. Point remains, new Giulia is better than previous ones :)

I’m 18 months into owning one. It’s been a great experience. No real issues, had one little niggle that was an easy DIY fix once I’d figured it out. The fact it has no 360 camera is not an issue at all, rear camera and front and rear sensors. If you can’t park it with them then you need to go back to driving school. The infotainment in the early cars is a bit crap but fit an aftermarket module to give Carplay and AA and it’s fine, though touch screen would have been a bonus. The sound is amazing, no GPF on mine so it’s louder and cracks on up and down shifts. The sound is unmistakable, there’s just nothing that sounds anything like the Q.

It's attitude, the way it drives, the way it looks----I just love it. I had a CLA 45 AMG before this, and a M3 before that. Both amazing cars. Both had better tech on the inside. The M3 was faster 0-60. The CLA45 AMG's interior was cooler. None of it mattered. There is just something different about this car. I wake up in the morning excited to go to work because I know I'll be driving this car. The Mercedes nor the BMW ever did that for me I promise you that. If you are on the fence because of "reliability" or whatever other problem you heard through sarcastic internet comments, don't listen to them. Watch actual testimonials from people who own the car. Single piece carbon fibre driveshaft, much lighter and with lower inertia moment than the traditional 2 pieces steel driveshaft of the M3 anx M4. On the road, the Giulia is engaging with a very responsive steering, but extremely safe and stable. The same can't be said for M3 and M4

You don`t buy an Alfa Romeo for the interior. You buy it for the feeling. You can`t have time to observe the interior except when she`s sitting in the garage. On the road, she`s there for you. Hi James. I took delivery of an Guilia Quad about a month ago and agree with pretty much everything you said. Although I have "the disease" and this is actually my third, previously a 2000 GTV V6 coupe and a 2003 147 GTA. I would only have the Sparco seats and I can't understand anybody not liking them. They are game changing. They contour so nicely to your back and just like the seats in my other wheels, a 2020 Evora GT (I only mention because I know your experience!!) they completely change the feel of the car. I'm not so fussed and don't mind the interior to be honest. Quality is a lot better than earlier cars and as long as it has Android Auto, I'm happy. We don't have to deal with particulate filters here in the US so I don't mind the noise. Even so, because I have the "other disease" it is currently in the shop having an Ideal Race 2nd stage Ecu tune, downpipes and a full Remus Valved Exhaust which eliminates the center resonator but apparently PROMISES no drone, as well as slightly lowered springs (only .75 inch) and small spacers to improve the stance. What you said about 1st and 2nd gear does make a lot of sense. Come to think of it, I've been told my ECU will fix that while still remaining nicely progressive. Lets hope it doesn't send me backwards into a ditch!!

There are many cars that are faster and more capable, but that car had a special ability to make me smile every time I drove it. Do you find the QV to be a worthy move forward from the GTA in that regard? Does it have that same ability to make you smile when you get behind the wheel?

Fair review. Yes, the infotainment is a generation (or 2) behind but I think the relative lack of technology might make it more appealing in the long run. I completely agree with your criticisms regarding the lack of safety assists in race mode. A HUGE mistake imo. I disagree about the harshness of the ride. I've had a Golf R and a Cadillac ATS-V. They both had harsher rides (the golf's was probably due to the too large 19 inch wheels) Anyway, I absolutely love my MY 2O20 Rosso Competizione. What a beautiful car this is despite the drawbacks. Italien through and though. I drove a new one out here in the SF Bay Area and my experience with the dealer was quite different than yours. They tossed me the keys and said, "See you later." I came back an hour later. I loved it. The dealer thought that I would buy it that day. I've owned two e46 M3s, including one with full Dinan mod, and I loved this car much more. It was mainly the Italien thing. So special. I could get one, in this blue shade, brand new, for $58k out the door. The driving position was not quite right for a person of my size, 6'3" and 220 lbs, but I could overlook that. I was tempted but already had my eye on a 997 Turbo to buy. Still, this car is in the back of my mind. It may still happen. In Corsa Red.

I have racing seats in mine but again, I don't understand the criticism of the interior. I didn't buy a car to have an iPad the size of my head in it or over the top nonsense. The Quadrifiglio is clean and well put together inside, comfortable and has what you need. After all, I bought it for its styling, wonderful steering, speed and how fun it is on the track. If you want to sit there and compare every tiny bit to a BMW, Mercedes etc, then you don't quite get it. I also have a C63. They're totally different cars. You buy a car for what it is. If you just sit there comparing and contrasting every single damn thing, you will always be left feeling short changed no matter what you have.

Interesting review and quite different from my ownership experience. I've had my 2017 car for 18 months and 13K miles (previous car was a Lotus Exige) and I love it. I can only presume there must of been some suspension changes on the recent cars as I don't find my car uncomfortable at all. One thing they are generally praised for in reviews is the compliant ride and mine is certainly that in it's softest setting. They did also change the steering geo on the later cars. In N mode it's as easy to drive as any normal car but agree it is a shame you can't select Race mode but keep some assistance. A separate way to turn all the traction control etc off would be better. I took it over Europe in the summer and from motorways to alpine passes it did it all pretty damn well. On a steady motorway run 35+ MPG is easily possible. It's a bit odd to mention the weight of car (it seems to be an Italian thing to quote dry figures), then complain at the lack of 360 degree cameras, double glazing etc. It's a sports saloon not a luxury one. While the interior maybe not be the best quality, personally I really like the relatively simple design, and that it hasn't got all that touchscreen/haptic nonsense. It's logical and just works well - too many interiors now are overly fussy/complicated. Re the relative lack of options is true, but at least they are pretty well spec'd as standard (Porsche charge extra for cruise control, and Ferrari charge a fortune for CarPlay etc). On earlier models the exhaust did open in D mode but not until about 4K RPM. There are a couple of options though to have a switchable exhaust valve so you can have it fully open in any mode, all the time. I drove a newer car, with the optional akrapovic exhaust and it definitely seemed quieter than my 2017 car with the standard exhaust when the valves are open so maybe that's a GPF thing? Personally, I like the short gearing as it means you can use more of the revs more often and change gear more when hooning. 7th & 8th are pretty long though and ideal for cruising on the motorway etc. I totally agree about the brake pedal feel at low speed, it's probably the thing I dislike the most. Maybe I've been lucky but contrary to the Alfa stereotype, mine has been 100% reliable, nothing has falled off or broken, even my alcantara wheel isn't 'falling apart' after 20K miles :-) It's not without it's flaws but IMO it's got way more positives that negatives.

You give an engaging review, but many of your criticisms are unfairly negative. Please allow me to respond to some of your criticism. 1) “Reliability issues”: I own a 2018 QV for four years, and have had no issues. Just regular annual service; 2) “COST”, you state that the M3 COMP costs 10 K pounds more but consider it same price as the QV. No, the QV costs 10 K pounds less. Financing depends on many things and may vary by country. In Canada where I live, similar financing; 3) “things may fall out of the car”, this is not fair. I own the QV for 4 years, and my wife drives a 2018 Giulia for 4 years, and nothing has fallen off the car; 4) “break-by-wire system”, you have the right to dislike it, however, I have no issues with it on the highway, in city traffic or in parking. Just take the small amount of time to get used to the car and the breaking system. I have no problems going back and forth between my 2012 Audi Q5 (with regular breaks) and the QV. Like all cars, the driver needs to get used to a new car as soon as the car has been bought; 5) “infotainment system”, Mine came with AppleCar Play. I prefer the QV’s because of its simplicity and how it provides the info that I want without the flashy German graphics. For example, the latter requires choosing between an exhaustive list of variables for the driving modes (especially in BMWs) thus requiring experimentation on the options and wasting time with the menu selection. The QV provides the most optimal selection of the variables (obtained by expert engineers and drivers) for each mode and gets me engaged directly with the superb driver activities of the QV rather than wasting time switching through the menu maze; 6) “tires”. The Pirelli P0 CORSA tires that come standard on the QV are performance summer racing tires. I think everyone knows any pure racing tire from any brand requires appropriate warming up for optimal use. Were your comments derived after proper warming? Anyways, one can always change the tires to regular summer tires, eg. Pirelli P0 or other brands; 7) “nice engine noise only available on race mode” . As I did, ask the Alfa dealer. It takes 15 mins for the dealer to place a simple tie wrap at the exhaust to keep the RACE noise on at all times. No electronic mod is required. I can go on and on. However, my QV is a superb car for the track, traffic and easy to park. Perhaps, you may have less viewers if you avoid providing extravagant and, in my opinion, unfair remarks. I believe criticism must be justified by experience, as I have done above, with my own experiences with the car.

I never been so much of a fan what infotainment and other fancy things cars have. For me is only how it drives and what feeling it gave it to me. And Alfa succeeded with Giulia perfect.

Would like to emphasize this is from a British perspective. Having driven my Q in Britain for well over a thousand miles, the firmness of the suspension is indeed apparent on most roads. However, back in Holland, I hardly notice it at all. I do feel the ‘vocabulary’ of the suspension is lacking a bit. It either soaks or crashes but what’s in between is a bit muddled. So I’ve decided to invest in a set of KW coilovers (specially made for the Q) to improve this. I haven’t fitted them yet, but reviews say this is a big upgrade. The complaints about the interior, I don’t get at all. There’s nothing really wrong with it. Sure, a German car might have some nicer materials, but who cares? The Alfa interior is practical, durable, looks nice enough, what more would you want? If you want a car you can pick up friends in and impress with your interior, buy a Rolls or a Maybach. But that sounds really sad, so why bother?
@GoldenCroc
@GoldenCroc 2 жыл бұрын
A bit flawed logic when it comes to the interior... Some people do indeed take issue with it. "Who cares?" can be said about every single part of a car. Most people would fail to see the point of the horsepower this got, "if you care about going fast why not buy a sportscar" they would say. You are obviously not very picky about interiors in cars such as this, and thats great for you. It gives you more options when buying, and I am happy you are pleased.

@@DDd-hr6mz Sure, thats what my whole post was about, diffrent people make different choices. Also, the problem with the "keep up with a Mclaren" statement from Alfas point of view, is that there other 4 door sedans that also can "keep up with a Mclaren" that a lot of people think got better interiors or other advantages...

I bought a Rosso 2017 Veloce and had similar opinions to yours. It actually worked decently as a luxury GT and was reliable. I had it for 5 years and 28k miles. In the US, they are relatively rare. I do not trust Stellantis even slightly.

Esatto. British reporters are dumb parrots. They misunderstood CEO Imparato saying that the Giorgio name is finished, but not the platform that will evolve into STLA Large.

Funny comment about jdm owners. I came from an RX8 before the QV. Besides the QV being a fantastic driving saloon, jdm offers no competition in this segment currently.

I said I love the new M3 G80, and having actually spend extended times in one, I can confirm it is a magnificent car. But if Alfa Romeo suddenly returned to Indonesia and brought with it the Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde, I'd forget the M3 immediately. Sadly Alfa was never successful here, and the only current Alfa imported here by grey imports were Stelvio QVs. Great car, but it is not a Giulia. One in Montreal Green, please.

A carbon fiber rear diffuser is available. I had Madness Autoworks near Austin TX installed one about 3 years. The manufacturer was Koshi Group LLC in Europe. They also manufacture carbon fiber parts for Ferrari and Lamborghini. I believe I paid around $2,800 for parts and labor to install the carbon fiber rear diffuser. The rear bumber had to be removed. It took about 3 hours to install.

I watch a lot of car reviews , I had a Guilia and now have a Stelvio , its a great car , but seriously these reviewers just talk soo much rubbish , I think this guy just likes the sound of his own voice. These new Alfas have few things that could be improved for sure, however they give so much more back to you, you smile when you drive them, and they are reliable .

Hi James. I have a Giulia Veloce which I often drive back to back with my F360 I don’t find any issues modulating the brake, it feels pretty good to me, progressive and predictable. Not noticeably worse than the Ferrari but admittedly not as good as my Lotus Evoras.

Curious - as someone who has driven cars lie a F360 and Evora, how do you feel about the "drivers apeal" or the Veloce? I recently sold my 147 GTA and im looking for an upgrade, but that car was so much fun to drive and had such a unique abilitiy to put a smile on my face. I cant stretch the budget to a QV, but a Giulia Veloce is within reach. Would you say the Veloce is a genuinely fun, sporty thing to drive?

@@bluegblueg One of my three favorite things about the GTA was that quick steering - it really made the car feel so agile and chuckable. The other two things about it that I loved were those amazing bucket seats and the engine/exhaust note. I know the Veloce can never replicate the last two, but if the steering is there maybe that's enough!
