I was just typing my comment when I realized yours is exactly what I was gonna say! I'm also celebrating 5 years soon. I have a hard time feeling safe and comfortable around people. I get drained easily and I feel the need to isolate. But when I met my boyfriend, I didn't feel those things. I think that's what made me put my guard down and give him a chance. The only other person I'm always comfortable around and can spend endless time with is my mom.

For me after almost 9 years together. I’ve come to realize that love isn’t always sexy. Rather it’s stable. It’s unconditional support from your partner. It’s shown in really simple and small mundane things such as him asking if I need anything when he leaves the room. It’s being in a sane, mature partnership where we pay the mortgage and meal plan each week. And after growing up in a toxic household where love wasn’t dependable but was used as a weapon. Mundane stable love is really really nice.

Alfie!! I'm never usually a commenter but I've been watching your videos for probably the last 8 or 9 years and I wanted to let you know how much you and future self has helped me. I graduated uni last year and had a really tough time struggling with my mental health and just trying to figure out what I want to do with my life and where I see my future. Only within the last few months have I really dedicated effort into my own self growth and healing. The message you've woven throughout the Future Self brand has helped me so much and opened my eyes to a new perspective of seeing things. I often find myself asking what I can do today that will make my future self happy. I've recently landed a job in my field that I'm now really excited about but was super nervous in the beginning, but again I reminded myself of what these opportunities will mean for my future self. Regarding productivity as a parent - 100% agree! I’ve never been more productive in my life. When the kids (we have two now) nap and it works out that they nap together, that’s my time to shine. I don’t remember what I did before having kids. So, yes, absolutely feel you!!

Me & my partner have been together almost 8 years, engaged for 6 & now have 2 boys, a 4 years old & 1 year old, & love for one another has changed in so many ways over those years, from 18 & 20 to 27 & 29. Love means to me now a kettled being boiled first thing in the morning ready for my coffee hes making me or the kettle on the evening after our boys are in bed where we can drink our drinks hot & cosy up on the sofa together. It’s getting in the car with a tank of petrol or being told to leave the washing up as he’ll do it when I’ve been with the kids all day & holding the fort down. It’s an early night with our reading lights on with no conversation but just each others company & our books. It’s quiet moments of, thank you & I love you, you look lush today & im thankful for all you do. It’s the ‘I’ll take the kids out for an hour so you can have some time alone to be less over stimulated’. The ‘how was your day’ ‘are you ok’ ‘book a girls day you need it’. The knowing what each other needs without being told or asked. The quick embraces we’re able to grab while not having the kids climbing on us. It’s just having each other there working as a team even if we’re barely able to say two words to one another. Love changes throughout ever chapter of your life. The choas of kids is a different ball game, but the closeness you have is unlike no other when you’ve created children together. No longer infatuated with each other but what we’ve created together knowing one day it’ll just be us two again. Knowing we’ve shaped our life today together. It’s hard & stressful but a love like no other. 💫💞

The part about what you did with your time before kids....that's why so many of us struggle after our kids leave home. We've had at least 18 years per child to forget who we are were before them. It's been fun to learn myself again. And it's a new chapter in a marriage/partnership. It's finding who you are as a couple in this older version of yourselves. Only advice I can give on that front is ALWAYS keep dating your partner. Incorporate child free time. My husband and I took one child free vacation per year. The kids stayed with grandparents and thought THEY were having the adventures but it was SO helpful to remember us apart from just being parents.

Love right now feels like making a lot of mistakes because of all the trauma that you’re carrying from your parents’ relationship into your relationship but having someone who’s holding your hand through all the toughest hurdles, which makes it easier to want to hold on to that beautiful feeling of being loved and combating that fear of being more vulnerable and open. My understanding of being in love is complete devotion to the person, by learning to love every new version they inevitably grow to become over the years. We constantly change as people, we aren't static or one-dimensional, so love to me is embracing every side of your partner and deepening your love for one another throughout your partner's personal growth. (I was undeniably in love and unfortunately the 4-year relationship is now ending - I'm 22).

At this stage of my life (early twenties) I am in love with life. I have just left a 4 year relationship and have found new ways to direct my love towards. I love the sun shining through the trees, I love the sound of birds chirping in the morning, I love having my morning cup of tea. I’m learning to love the small things in life which I think is really important as that’s what makes life special.

I’ve been single for a few years now and it can be hard seeing friends or exes get married, start families etc. But in moments like that I remind myself that there are so many different kinds of love that I am so lucky to have in my life. Many that people can’t choose. I have an amazing family (parents, siblings, cousins, etc) that are so supportive and love me unconditionally. I have best friends who I feel are my soulmates. And when I remember that, I feel so blessed to have those kinds of love in my life that I don’t feel like I’m missing anything even though I don’t have romantic love yet. I have the types of love you can’t choose and I wouldn’t trade it for the world😌

Love is spending time with my family and friends because they make me happy. Love is also spending time on my own when things get too stressful by reading, listening to music, watching KZbin etc.

I’m 35, I’ve been with my husband for 18 years this year! Love to me means wanting to be your self, completely respecting who they are not wanting to loos your identity but wanting to spend a lot of your time with them. He’s my best friend. Also that you would put their needs first and that you do things with them in mind. Not just buying gifts but doing the dishes in the Evening g because having a clean kitchen will make it easier for him to make coffee in the morning. Did any of that make sense lol.

I'm in love, and have been for 11 years...crazy fact is that my and boyfriends anniversary was 4th Oct 2011 a year before yours and Zoe's! We were 15 and 16 so it's been a type of love that's developed over time, first i think it was a sweetheart love, as you do when your that young, and as we became best friends through Uni and living together it deepened. Nowadays I think it's love that is in the little things, like making hot drinks without asking, sitting and watching the sunset together, or going to an arcade etc. It's in everything, that person you love feels like home and to be honest i'll never ever be able to describe exactly how it feels other than it warms my heart and soul :) Love the videos at the moment!! Speaking of future self, what love means to me at the moment is loving my present self. I hope this doesn’t come off as conceited or anything, but I’m at a point in my life where I’m spending quite a bit of time with myself. For the longest time, I tended to nitpick parts of me that I didn’t like and it was really difficult to be at peace while alone. As of now, I have learned so much about myself and started to love and adore me, the most pure version of me. I’be actually been feeling so nice lately, aside from the chaos that life has thrown at me. Because of the love I have for myself, I am way more capable of dealing with external stress and such.

Been with my husband 10 years this year and love is not always easy but it’s knowing he always has my back 💕 now we have a 16 month old daughter and I love him even more seeing him love our daughter too
